This is Getting to Know Your Bible, a program dedicated to the proclaiming of the good news of Jesus Christ. Here's Billy Lambert. Hello, I'm Billy Lambert. I am the regular speaker on Getting to Know Your Bible. And I want to welcome you today. This may be the very first time that you have seen this telecast. I want you to know that the thing that we emphasize on Getting to Know Your Bible is the word of God. The Bible is the greatest book that has ever been written many years ago. There were those books that thought they would replace the Bible. That's what Thomas Payne thought when he wrote the Age of Reason. But the Bible continues to live, centuries after centuries. Jesus said, heaven, I shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. So on Getting to Know Your Bible, we're teaching from the timeless Word of God. The Bible is God's book, the greatest book that has
ever been written. And today we're going to be opening up the pages of the Word of God and delivering a message to you from God's book. Today we're going to be seeing a one of our classics. That is a production of one of our telecasts from time in the past. And we want you to stay tuned. We're going to be offering a free Bible correspondence course today. And we will see an inflammation on the screen as to how you can receive that course. And so we want to pause at this time. To help you in your study of the Bible, we want to send you this Bible correspondence course. This course is non-denominational. It's based on the Bible. It's conducted by mail and it's free. To receive this course, write to Getting to Know Your Bible, PO Box 314, Somardale, Alabama, 36580, or call toll free 1-877-711-5214.
It was the night of Jesus betrayal. Jesus had been betrayed. He had been arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane. He was taken before the High Priest and then following that we have Peter denying Jesus. Jesus was questioned by the High Priest. Peter denies Christ two more times. And in our reading today, Jesus is in the court of Pilate. And we read now from John the 18th chapter beginning in verse 33. Then Pilate entered the pratorium again, call Jesus and said to him, are you the king of the Jews? Jesus answered him, are you speaking for yourself about this? Or did others tell you this concerning me? Pilate answered, am I a Jew? Your own nation of the
chief priests have delivered you to me. What have you done? Jesus answered, my kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight so that I should not be delivered to the Jews. But now my kingdom is not from here. We are so attached to the world and all of the things that are in it that it might be difficult for us to grasp the idea or the notion that there are some things that are not of this world. The things that are visible to the human eye are easily accepted as being real. But that there are some things that are equally as real
that may not be seen with the human eye. Paul referred to this in 2 Corinthians chapter 4. In verse 16, he said, for which calls we faint not? Well, the outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us afar more exceeding and eternal way to glory. For while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen, for the things which are seen are temporal, that is temporary. But the things which are not seen are eternal. So they are the seen things that are real, they are the unseen things that are equally as real. And in order that we might believe in those unseen things, we need faith. Faith in is believing in the reality of what we're not able to see.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for. The evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11 and 1. In 2 Corinthians chapter 5 and verse 7, Paul said, we're to walk by faith and not by sight. And in 1 Peter chapter 1, verse 8, Peter is talking about Jesus when he said, whom having not seen, whom having not seen, we love. So there are things that are not seen things, things that are not of this world, but they are real. For example, we serve a king who is not of this world. Jesus Christ is king of kings in Isaiah the ninth chapter and in verse 6. In Isaiah was predicting
the birth of Jesus, under us a child is born, under us a son is given. And the government shall be up on his shoulders. Jesus Christ is in a position of God. Did you know that mosquitoes have killed almost half of all people who have ever lived? Today, people are fighting back with support from the Gates Foundation. American scientists and partners around the world have developed a new generation of bed nets that can kill up to 90% of mosquitoes exposed to them, helping cut malaria rates in half. The result? And at this very moment, Jesus Christ is the right at the right hand of God. In Acts the seventh chapter when Steven was
being stone. And in verse 56, he saw Jesus standing at the right hand of the throne of God. So Jesus Christ is our king. Jesus Christ was exalted to the right hand of God after his resurrection from the dead. In Ephesians the first chapter, beginning in the Nineteenth verse, there the Bible says, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ when he raised him from the dead, which he worked in Christ when he raised and seated him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion every name that is named, not only in this age, but in that which is to come. And it put all things under his feet,
give him to be head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him, that filleth all in all. Jesus Christ is not coming back one day to be king. Jesus Christ is coming to give up his kingdom. Verse Corinthians chapter 15, verse 24, at this present moment, we have the opportunity of serving a king who is not of this world. We are subject to a law that is not of this world. Now we are subject to the laws of the land. In the 13th chapter of Romans, Paul talked that we are to obey the rulers of the land. And there is a purpose for the rulers of the land, and that's to keep law and order. But we can be subject to another law that is not of this world. And that's the law of the Lord
Jesus Christ. In Matthew chapter 24 and verse 35, Jesus said, heaven and earth shall pass away. But my word shall not pass away. The Apostle Peter and first Peter chapter 1, verses 22 to 25, said, the word of the Lord in dearth forever. God's word has power. It is power to convert the soul of man. The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul according to the Psalmist in Psalms chapter 19 and verse 7. And the Bible, which is the law of the kingdom of God, the this law is inspired of God. All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable
for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction and righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, truly furnished under every good word. You see this as a law that is not of this world. It is not of this world because this is a law that came from God himself. And man should never tamper with this law. We should not add to it nor subtract from it Revelation 22 verses 18 and 19. In Galatians the first chapter, Paul is writing to a people who were a rather fickle people, a people who were changeable. And in verse 6, he said, I marvel that you are so soon removed from the gospel of Christ to another, which is not another. But there be some that would trouble you and would pervert the gospel of Christ. There were those that were perverting the gospel
that had been given through the inspiration of God. And then Paul wrote in verse 7 beginning, and though we are an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you, then that which we have preached, let him be a curse, that is, let him be anathema. And so we have a law that is not of this world. And then we strive for a reward that is not of this world. I suppose that there is something within humanity, within the human heart that makes man desire a reward. Well, a young man goes to play some sport. He likes to get a reward. That is, he wants to win. That's a reward. He may get a trophy for his actions. A reward. But what about the reward for serving God? Our reward is not of
this world. In 2 Corinthians Timothy, rather the 4th chapter in verse 8, Paul said, hence 4th there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, you'll give him at that day, and not to me only, but unto all of them that love is appearing. Can you imagine what it's going to be like to receive the reward at the end of the way on life's other side? In 1 Peter chapter 5, Peter's writing to elders of the church. He was an elder, according to verse 1, he's writing to fellow elders. And then in verse 4, he said, and when the chief shepherd shall appear, you shall receive a crown of glory that fate has not away. Those who serve as the undercheppers of Christ, those who serve as the leaders of God's people, the elders in the body of Christ, are going to receive a reward. But it is not of this world. It is not of this world. In Revelation
2 verse 10, Jesus said, be thou fateful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. That actually meant to those people, you be faithful even if it should cost you your life, then I will give you a crown of life. You see, we serve on strife or a reward that is not of this world. But we have an opponent who is not of this world. Offer sure we have people that might oppose us today. But really our real opponent is of another world. In Ephesians the 6th chapter, beginning in verse 10, Paul wrote, finally, brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power is might, put on the whole arm of God that you may be able to stand against the wilds of the devil.
But we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers and spiritual wickedness in high places. You see, we're in a battle with Satan himself. He is our opponent. Peter warns us about him in 1 Peter 5 and 8. Be sober, be vigilant. Before you adverse, say, the devil is a roaring line. Walketh about seeking whom he may devour. And Satan wants to destroy you. He wants to destroy your family. He wants to destroy your influence. He would destroy you. And he is the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that worketh in the children that are disobedient children according to Ephesians chapter 2 verses 1 through 3. He is the God of this world. That he is the ruler of the darkness of this world. In 2 Corinthians chapter 4
and beginning in verse 3, Paul there wrote, but if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost in whom the God of this world had blinded the minds of them that believe not, lest the delight of the glorious gospel of God should shine unto them. Satan blinds people to the truth. He blinds them to the truth. And this opponent is constantly on the attack. Well, what are we to do? Well, the Bible says if we draw or resist him, he will flee. If we draw near to God, he will draw near to us. James chapter 4 verses 7 and 8. So here's something else we have that's not of this world. An opponent. That is not of this world. We have help in living that is not of this world. All people have problems in life. You may be having some right now.
Where do you turn for help? Some people turn to a bottle for help. So some people turn to some drug for help. So some people turn to other things for help. They turn to lives of emerality for help. But we have help for living that is not of this world. God is our refuge in our stream. A very present help in time of trouble. Psalms chapter 46 and verse 1. Paul had a thorn in the flesh and we're not going to speculate about what the thorn was because no one knows except Paul and God. And you get to heaven, you can ask Paul, Paul, what was your thorn? But you better work on getting that first, hadn't we? Now in 2nd Corinthians chapter 12, Paul said three times I prayed for the removal of that thorn. But here was God's answer to Paul's prayer for its removal,
something that was painful to him. My grace is sufficient for thee. My strength is made perfect in weakness. God's strength, God's power, God's might was perfected in the weakness of Paul. That's that is that's how God showed his might, his strength in the life of Paul. We are today have helped in living in Psalms, the 91st chapter and in verses in verse 1 and in verse 2. Here is how God is described. He is described first of all as the most high, the most high. And he is the most high guy. He's also described as the almighty, the almighty God. He is also described as the Lord. He is described as my God. Can't you see that there is God to help us
and that's help that's given to us that is not of this world. We could also belong to a kingdom that is not of this world. Jesus said, if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight. But the Lord's kingdom is not an earthly kingdom. It is not of this world. Daniel predicted the coming of the Lord's kingdom and Daniel to verse 44. In the days of these kings, God of heaven shall set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed. And it shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms. It shall stand forever. And in Colossians 1st chapter and verse 13, Paul is talking about conversion. And he says that we have been
delivered from the power of darkness and have been translated into the kingdom of God's dear son. In hence, we can be members of a kingdom that is not of this world. In Revelation chapter 1, verse 9, John is talking about those who were his brethren, fellow laborers. And he says, and in the kingdom. When John wrote the book of Revelation, they were in the kingdom. Some say the kingdom has not yet come, but Jesus says it has. John says it has. The Bible teaches that it has. And we can be citizens in a kingdom that is not of this world. This kingdom transcends this world. In John the 3rd chapter, that was a man with the name of Nicodemus who came to Jesus by night. And he asks, did you know that mosquitoes have killed almost half of all people who have ever
lived? Today, people are fighting back. With support from the Gates Foundation, American scientists and partners around the world have developed a new generation of bed nets that can kill up to 90% of mosquitoes exposed to them, helping cut malaria rates in half. Jesus, he said, how can a man be born when he is old? Can he end of the second time in his mother's womb and be born? And Jesus answered that in John chapter three and verse five like this. Truly, truly I say unto you, accept a man be born of water and of the spirit. He cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven. In order that we might be members of that kingdom that is not of this world,
John three seven says you must be born again. Someone says what is the process of conversion? Well, what is the process of a person being born again? There must be a change of an individual's intellect from unbelief to belief. And that occurs through the teaching of the Bible. Faith comes by hearing. Hearing comes by the Word of God, Romans 10, 17. There also must be a change of lifestyle. That is, that comes as a result of one's repentance. Our Lord said, I tell you, name it except your repent. You shall all light wise perish. And there must be a change of one's position or state from being outside Christ to being in Jesus Christ. And that takes place in baptism. Galatians 3, 27. No, you're not that sublime of us as were baptized into Christ,
did put on Christ. In order that we might be members of that kingdom, that is not of this world. We believe, repent, and we are baptized into the Lord Jesus Christ. But we also have a purpose in living, that is not of this world. What are you living for? What's your purpose in life? What's your aim in life? Where are you going in life? In Philippians 1st chapter, in verse 21, Paul stated his purpose in living. He said, for me, for to me, to live is Christ. Let's read that again. For to me, to live is Christ. And to die is gained. If you would ask some people to answer that question,
for what are you living? They would have to say, I'm living to make money. I'm living to be popular. I'm living to have power over people. But what are you living for? What's your purpose in your life? And your life needs to be focused on the Lord Jesus Christ. We need to be centered and focused on things that transcend this world. And we have that purpose in living that's really not of this world. In Colossians 3rd chapter, verses 1 and 2, Paul said, if you then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above where Christ siteth on the right hand of God. Set your affections on things above and not on things on the earth. Did you notice that? Set your affections on things above. That is, on not of this world,
but on not on things on this earth. I don't think there's any passage of scripture that could be in a clearer. About where our purpose for living ought to be. It was Solomon who said, fear God and keep His commandments. That's the whole duty of man. He's asked, he's 12 in verse 13. Many people in life have no purpose there. What one man referred to is wandering generalities. They really don't know why they're here. They don't know where they're going. They don't know what they need to be doing. But it is Christ who gives you purpose for living because he is our Lord, our Savior, our King, our friend. And when we give our lives to him and we focus our lives on him and center our lives around him, we have a reason to live.
And heaven becomes my goal for what are you living? You see, we have a purpose that is not of this world. When you become a citizen of the kingdom of the Lord, you have citizenship not of this world. In Philippians 3, 20 Paul said, our citizenship is in heaven. I've often said that Christians have two addresses and earthly address and a heavenly address. We're really citizens of another kingdom. It's not of this world. And then finally, we're going to answer to a God who is not of this world. We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ that everyone must receive the things done in his body according to death done. Whether it's good or bad. And when that time comes, I hope that your Christian, I'd encourage you to become a Christian today.
