The last couple of days, this week, college basketball. Everyone that does this for a living in sports talk radio will suddenly become a college basketball expert and will all be Jonesed up because coming up this Sunday is a election Sunday. Which means, and I don't know, I haven't talked to management. I'm speaking out of school here. There'll be some kind of bracket
thing of Majig or what you might call it or something like that, I would imagine. Been here a long time. We do one every year. So that will be coming up next week. Selection Sunday is this Sunday. But we're not talking about that. No, no, no. It's our leave this out. A couple of days after they got all pro defensive back Trent McDuffy from Kansas City. They have given him a record breaking contract. Now we had heard through the grapevine. This was going to happen. But now we know. Money, money, money. Just how much money. So if you didn't see this, I'm sure it's very similar to your contract. Four years, which is bigger than most of the lotteries that are going on right now in individual states. 100 million guaranteed. The deal will make McDuffy. Trent McDuffy. The highest paid defensive back
in NFL history. Holy prime time. Deon. Yeah, well, it's all about when you're born. That's a big part of the money game and professional sports, right? рушy now. Set the news standard it. It comes just days after the Rams traded a traded a bag full to the chief's a package of picks including the 29 peak in the draft. Oh, you draft nerds. Get all horny for that and joy that. And so it's a good. Lemon over. Let us discuss the question. Is the 100 million guaranteed or reckless spending by the Rams. So my thoughts on this, I've got British Boydman, Arby's Drive-Through, and Cheddar Cheese Ruffles. And we'll put all these together. We are going to build a better mouse trap. You like the thinking, well, there's no way to build a better mouse trap.
And a mouse trap, we're gonna do it. We're gonna build a better mouse trap. So, A, let's address the Commodo Dragon in the room, which would be the Sticker Shock, Crowd, Hyperventilating. Commodo, take deep breaths. Everything's gonna be okay. Oh my God, the game with the Rams are doing it. Oh, they're running the NFL. Oh, I'm sorry. Those are the people that upset with the Dodgers. Yeah, the Rams guaranteeing 100 million for Trent McGuff, and the Philadelphia people. Oh, he's not the top quarterback. Quarterback, what are you doing? Now, this is basic accounting. It's basic accounting here. So you think of this like an escrow account. And when the Rams made the move to get McDuffie from the chiefs, the way that they facilitated the trade was, they knew the bill was coming due. They had to pay the guy. And so they knew they were gonna have to pay him. The money wasn't a surprise. They were gonna pay him a lot, whether it was 30 million a year, 31 million, which it turned out to be. It was a lot. It was pre-baked into the recipe.
So that's already pre-baked in there. There's nothing you can do. They budgeted it like it's a family setting to decide cash for property taxes. And let's not pretend the Rams are rummaging through couch cushions. The stadium is so far. All you people are like, ah, no one's going to a Rams game. It's all fans of the other team. Okay, well, the Rams are making money either way and Stan Kronke, the largest landowner outside of the federal government in America, worth 22 billion. And so the Rams have a license to print cash between so-fi stadium and L.A. and all the TV in general that they're getting like everyone else, but on top of it, all that extra revenue. Plus the NFL salary cap. I'd let you just step in and I want you to sign up for my webinar, Mathers webinar on the salary cap. The salary cap in the NFL is like a British boy band. It's one direction. It goes up, one direction. And here's the kicker.
I tremicked off. He isn't some stat sheet mirage. Piling up empty calories. It's not like he was playing for the cowboys or the Cleveland Browns. He's battle tested, not one, but two. Super Bowl appearances with Kansas City. Bright lights, big stage, all that. And he got it done. And he didn't shrink. And he didn't run away and hide. And he showed up with brass knuckles. So he has proven, unlike the, whoever the 29th pick in the draft will end up being, is not proven, is not guaranteed to succeed. Well, nothing is totally guaranteed, but you'd rather have someone that's actually done it who's had a couple of years under their belt to pay that particular player. Now, page two. So keeping the smooth sound going here, question, does Trent McDuffy transform the Rams defense or does he just patch one hole?
Is this just one little hole? So clearly, if you know anything about the economics, I think you do, you're not a moron that it's not just nice player money. That is what we call NFZ money. No fly zone. No fly zone. 31 million a year, if my math is correct, means that quarterbacks should have to contact the FAA to get clearance to throw in the direction of Trent McDuffy. If you're paying that kind of cash, this guy can't just patch a little pot hole. Can't be that, right? It's got to repave the whole highway and stripe it and all of that. The Rams basically drove to Kansas City and they treated Arrowhead Stadium like it was an Arby's drive throw. And they said, yeah, hi, we need some help in our defense. I'll take one all pro defensive back combo meal because you're advertising, you have the meats.
So we need some meat in our secondary and they needed it. They got it. Their secondary last year was softer than those delicious bird ends in Kansas City. Not quite as good, not close to being as good as the bedmaller chicken fingers at the landing in Liberty, Missouri. Now, is this guaranteed to work? No, of course not. This is not the windmill and the spinning obstacles at the miniature golf course, the putt, putt, golf course. This is not that. We've seen this movie before. Oh, man, it's been almost 10 years now but I remember when the Rams went shopping in Kansas City and this was eight years ago, they got Marcus Peters. What the time was considered one of the top defensive backs in the NFL. The problem was Peter sucked at a time you cannot suck. That was the problem. And it was worth the risk. It didn't work out then. McDuffey's legit. He's a top 10 defensive back, great tackler supposedly.
You got to be the eraser, right? 2026, the Rams will play in the division, assuming the sea ox don't lose Jackson, Smith and Jigba. He'll be there. Marvin Harrison Jr. who's hitting miss and then outside the division, the Rams play, the Cowboys and CD lamb. And at this point, the Eagles have AJ Brown will see but those guys have to be vaporized by the aforementioned Trent McDuffey. And you're supposed to build the MDS, the missile defense system. The plan is to build the missile defense system if balls are still flying over that secondary, then the Rams, they mismanage their money. And they did not get the lockdown defensive back and they just paid a hundred million for a fancy bandaid. There is the multiverse, we do believe in the multiverse so it is conceivable that that outcome happens although we would bet on him being fine at least for a couple of years, it's four year,
believe me, four year contractor. Yeah, I think that's right. So that's a lot of cash. All right, now last word here. Two tabloid village. Two tabloid village we go. So TMZ over the weekend, breathlessly reported. And this was so outrageous that I had to bring this up. I could not wait to talk about this. So I don't know if you follow TMZ or not, but TMZ over the weekend reported. I've never seen a report like this before in my life. I thought, my God, this is the most amazing thing I've ever seen. So the people over at TMZ reported breaking news. Apparently Donna Kelsey, Donna Kelsey, and it's with a heavy heart that I say this. I'm a little embarrassed to bring this up, but I think we can all send our thoughts and prayers to Donna Kelsey. She's replacing nine windows and six doors at her home in Orlando. Let me repeat that. That's TMZ big news over the weekend. Donna Kelsey is replacing nine windows and six doors
at her home in Orlando. Huh? Yep. Now, I know that's the store. It's a shocker windows indoors. TMZ, of course, getting roasted for this, being called out for reaching a new low and all that. So the question, why? I know this is not for the faint of heart, but why would TMZ report on Donna Kelsey getting new windows and doors? Why would this be a report? Because we are living inside the AIC. What is the AIC? The algorithm industrial complex. That's why this is content farming with a capital F for farming. These bot farms from Guanzhou, China are no joke, right? You toss the word Kelsey into that digital ocean like Chum in shark infested water and the engagement fish start thrashing, right? Now, we here, of course, in Fox Sports Radio part of the I Heart family and guaranteed human.
That's the new thing, right? Guaranteed human and all that. Well, these are real humans who scroll right past that. But the bots don't, right? The bots, the dummy accounts, the engagement farms in Maldova, in the matrix, they all, or they gobble, gobble, gobble. It's like, if you've gone to the beach during the summer, you drop a cheddar cheese ruffles on the beach and there's a 17 pigeons that come over there and the pelicans and everything. They're attacking that birds right there on the beach. They want to get that cheddar cheese ruffles, they want it. This is the afterglow of Taylor Swift. It's the afterglow of Taylor Swift. The Kelsey name is like a magic spell online. And even the most mundane thing, a home depot receipt, a home depot receipt, golden, golden. You type it and poof. Your engagement goes through traffic appears,
abracadabra. Now, if you listen to the fifth hour podcast over the weekend, we had a interesting strategy and the mail bag, we talked about the fact there was a, let's actually sent this to me. I think it was on, was it twitch or something? One of the, one of the streaming, so I forget which one. One of the social networks, the person that runs it was encouraging people to get dummy views to get the numbers up, saying that even good content is not enough, which is what I've been preaching from the bully pulpit for some time. It's a lot of manipulation. There's a lot of people taking the cleaners, but you've got to play the game if you're in that world. Play the hits, mom, I have to play the hits as one of our old bosses used to say. And today it's Donna Kelsey installing windows. Tomorrow it's Donna Kelsey getting a manny and a petty. Next week we understand Donna Kelsey will buy a new toaster. Will it be a red toaster or will it be a green toaster? I need a hoe. Developing hot dot, dot, dot. And listen, here's what, because the robots, the robots click and click and the advertisers pay.
All right, they pay whether they're getting horn swaggle, bamboozle, led astray, buy the machine, they haven't figured it out yet. At some point, there will be the great awakening. At some point, there will be the great awakening. That has not happened yet. And this is a great example. Even TMZ is like, wait a minute. If we just merely say, hey, this is the mama of Travis Kelsey and Jason Kelsey, we can get the box to click on that. And then we can make money on that. So everyone else will point fingers and go, ha, ha, ha. And goof on you, but it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. You come out ahead. So our lead this hour is from baseball. And I got a couple of emails over the weekend. I don't understand why you're not into the whole world baseball classic. I don't hate it. It's just not something I'm all Jonesed up for. I did watch, what a great game.
I watched the Mexico game on Fox Sports 1, I think it was. FS1, Mexico played Brazil. I believe it was 16 nothing. Very competitive game, outstanding. Good competition there. Love athletic competition. But our lead is from the world baseball classic where Philly star Bryce Harper was a trending topic over the weekend. What did he do? Did Bryce Harper end up getting hurt? Did he, no, he didn't get hurt? Did he hit three home run? No, he didn't hit three home run. Did he demand a trade? Did he Yankees? No, no, he didn't do that. None of the above. None of the above. One of the stars of USA's World Cup, World Baseball, team, the WBC, Bryce Harper came out and he gave a less than ringing endorsement of the World Baseball Classic. Harper had a lot to say. I think we have some audio on this, I believe. Let's see if we do or not. All right, here we go. Here's Bryce Harper and his thoughts
on the World Baseball Classic and comparison to that other event that happens every few years. Let's go to the audio tape, take a listen. Obviously WC's been great, but it's not the Olympics, right? That's no disrespect to the WC or anything, but everybody knows that when the Olympics are on, everybody's watching, no matter what sport it is, it could be the most random sport and it's got all the fans watching it. So I'm hoping, like 20 it happens. There you go. All right, so again, WBC's been great. It's not the Olympics, but it's not the Olympics. So this was met with condemnation, damnation, and vilification, how dare you? How dare you, Bryce Harper, not go with the orthodox and say how great the World Baseball Classic is, because that's what you're supposed to do. And he didn't do it. So good job at all point. Let us discuss the question. How did Bryce Harper's comments about the WBC, the World Baseball Classic, not being the Olympics up to the standard of the Olympics, land with you?
So I've got five guys, combo meal, cookie cutter, stucco house, and burger king. And we will combine all of these things together and we are going to play nice in the sandbox, unless we don't. So number one, I said number one. Yeah, all right, all right, stop it. Please, trying to do a show here. So Bryce Harper says the World Baseball Classic is great, but it's not the Olympics. And as you know, from being a loyal minion in the Malar militia, whether you're sworn in or not, you know that that word butt, butt, butt, butt, butt, butt, butt, butt, butt, butt, butt, butt, is doing a lot of heavy lifting. Every man, woman, and child that has paid any attention to the overnight show knows that anything before the word butt is a lie. It's a lie. It's the classic political weasel move, no disrespect,
but here comes the disrespect. Now, truth bomb, truth bomb, butt, butt, B-U-T-T butt. That is the universal lie detector word. It's like when your buddy says, you know, I'm not trying to start a fight. But, yeah, suddenly, you guys are squaring up, there's chairs flying, you know, what are you doing, dude? Harper nailed it. Like, save the foe outrage, the Olympics are the super bowl of global sports. And I'm not a big Olympic guy either, but I am fair enough to point out that the Olympics are, if you're into that kind of thing, the global sporting scene, that's where it's at. The WBC, it might as well be a preseason bowl game in Shreeport. OK, and you know who secretly agrees with Bryce Harper, but will never admit it, will never admit it, Major League Baseball. The whole thing exists because Major League Baseball got kicked out of the Olympics in the first place. They were not deemed cool enough for the Olympics.
Have you seen some of the Fugaisi sports in the Olympics and they kicked Baseball out? They got tossed out like a scam artist caught counting cards in Vegas. Technically not illegal, but you're not welcome here anymore. And Bud Sealick, who was the commissioner of the time and his evil henchmen, who's been proven to be a worse commissioner than Bud, Rob Manford, cooked this thing up in a panic. And look, all you need to know about how unpopular it is, the ticket prices, did you know that the USA opener, now they played a couple of games, but I think this is on Friday, the buy-in price on the secondary market for the USA opener, the World Baseball Classic, it was actually cheaper to buy a ticket to the World Baseball Classic than to go to five guys and get a combo, or just even a cheeseburger. That tells you everything. It also tells you the five guys is over price, but that's a different conversation. Again, we'll watch, I did watch, I've been watching,
I've been checking it out, you know, watching, why not? Am I excited today? We'll talk about it. I have a talk show to do every day, so I'll talk about it. It's not kid ourselves though. The Olympics are like the bacon cheeseburger would be the Olympics, very popular burger. The WBC, that would be a plant-based meat burger, no toppings on just wrapped in plain paper, wrapped in plain paper, that's it. Now page two. So on the other side of the aisle, this is not a bipartisan issue. On the other side of the aisle, we had a, not a star, but it got some big games because he happened to be riding the coattails of the team in LA, but we're talking about Keke Hernandez. So very popular with the Dodger fans, they love this guy. So he was asked about what the World Baseball Classic means. A Dodger utility guy, a backup on the Dodgers, Keke Hernandez, who is part of Puerto Rico's team,
kind of, more than that in a minute. And he opened up about the tournament, and it's important, he said, quote, I've played in five world series, and I don't know if it's because of what's across my chest, which would be Puerto Rico, but the classic feels above that Hernandez said, close quote. All right, question. If you're a Dodgers fan, are you annoyed that Keke Hernandez is saying that the World Baseball Classic is more meaningful than the fall classic, where the Dodgers of one of the last two world series. So I know some, some people out there trying to work Dodger fans into a lot of the, I, I don't think this is much. I'm not worked up into anything here. I'm not annoyed, not even a little bit. If you decode the messaging here, Keke Hernandez is playing to the crowd. He's playing to the crowd. He knows the international audience eats this stuff up, romanticizing what is a relatively new shiny toy, the World Baseball Classic.
It's shorter, it's louder at times, and it's certainly fresher, it's kind of like summer camp. You show up, you wave the flag, everybody sings cum baya, you roast some marshmallows, and then you go home. Now that's it. Let's not get too carried away here, comparing the World Baseball Classic to the World Series, right side by side. Have the World Series on one side, you have the World Baseball Classic on the other. It's like comparing the ancient pyramids to a cookie cutter stuckle home at the end of a cul-de-sac. No one would say, well, that stuckle home in the cul-de-sac, that's where it's at. No, one has history carved the stone, literally, and the other has a very expensive HOA and some really annoying people that force you to change the outside of your house because there are a bunch of schmucks. Now my favorite part is that Keke, who's braggadocious about how great the World Baseball Classic is
in comparison to the World Series, he's not even playing. He had snap crackle poppy, Tor, elbow ligaments and tendons and all that, elbow got all torn up. He had surgeries out till mid-season for the Dodgers. So he's sitting there watching the World Baseball Classic, the same way that you and I would be watching. And it is also fun to point out that while Keke Hernandez has the reputation of being Mr. October, Mr. October, the modern-day clutch player, this is more and more a man who shot liberty-valent situation when the legend becomes the fact, you print the legend, because the reality is that in the World Series, Keke Hernandez last year batted under 200 in his career in five World Series, Keke Hernandez in the fall classic, is a career 202 hitter. He's right at the Mendoza line in the World Series. Now he has had some big hits in other rounds of the playoffs
and he's even had a few in the World Series. But overall, his full body of work, Keke Hernandez, is batting 202 in the World Series. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. Now, final point, elsewhere, Sai Young winner, Terrick Schubert, who pitched over the weekend more than that, pitching the World Baseball Classic more than that in a minute. But he also revealed the Ace of Motown, the Ace of Motown, Terrick Schubert will reveal, the Tigers never, ever made him a long-term offer in the off season. There were stories about would there be a deal done, would Schubert will sign an extension to stay in Detroit and they never made an offer. That's what he said over the weekend. And there won't be an offer until the end of the season, the Sai Young pitcher said, when he could potentially become a free agent. He said, quote, there is no offer and there won't be an offer Schubert said until the end of the season, my focus is on playing baseball and winning this year. Schubert grumbled to gaggle of reporters there.
He says, I'll deal with the contract stuff at the end of the year and then we'll kind of see. And that's fine, it's their decision. All right, question. Does Terrick Schubert actually want to be in Detroit and does Detroit want him? Or is he halfway out the door already? Is this just a fate of complete that when we get to the mid-summer trade deadline, he's gone. All right, so spare me the violin music, right? The Schubert, not emotional, not emotional about Detroit. Now my word for this and I would say it's on both sides is indifference, indifference. The Tigers are owned by old family money. The pizza, pizza, pizza guys long gone. The family runs the Tigers and that money, if they don't spend it on Schubert, they can spend it on private jets and third and fourth homes. Vacation homes and things like that. And so there are in an interesting situation in Detroit because they're supposed to be one of the better teams
in the American League this year, the Tigers. They were in the playoffs last year. We saw what they did a year ago. So if you're in contention, you cannot trade Schubert. Then you end up like the angels with Otani, although they were not really in contention that year. They were like a faux contender and the angels had offers for Otani and didn't trade him. What happened to him? I guess he signed up with the Dodgers. I don't know if they've had any success or not. I have to go check on that. But that's the problem. So if Detroit's good, you gotta keep Schubert. If he's bad, you get rid of him, but the chances are pretty good that they'll be good. And I think it's indifference, right? If the Tigers are the highest bidder, which it doesn't seem like they're interested in being, suddenly, then Schubert comes out. I love Mocha, oh my God, Detroit style pizza is the greatest style pizza in the world. Those Coney dogs to die for, the whole thing, right? Greek town, come on. And right now though, he's at the 26 mile mark of the marathon.
The 26 mile mark of the marathon, two tenths of mile left until he runs straight in to a giant pit of money. I think Fort Knox, the vaulted Fort Knox, and when he gets there, he's going Burger King, baby. Have it your way. And Schubert's ordering the Whopper with extra zeros, because he's going to get a Whopper. Now, believe just starting pitching wise, the Philadelphia Philly Zach Wheeler of all people has the highest average annual value of their contract at 42 million a year for Zach Wheeler. Oh my God. Schubert is going to get at least 45 million a year. He's looking at something like five years, 225 million. That's like the starting point for a school. Now, as far as the, I'm focusing on baseball, that is humbuggery. Yeah, just like me, I'm focusing on the talk show.
If management wants to give me a new contract and pay me a lot more money and give me a helicopter, I'm good. I'm in, okay? I can multitask, I can do the talk show, and I can sign the docu sign and get the contract. I'm good to go. I'm good to go, right? That's it, good to go. So I always always say, oh, I'm focused on baseball. If Detroit right now put an offer of six years, 260 million, or six years, 300 million on the table, he would sign faster. Faster than a guy slapping that, you know, the buy it now button on eBay. He'd be all about it, man. He'd be all about it. How about that? A third degree. Are you in? This is one big bet gets grail. All right, good blue. Been a couple days ago, President Trump held a saving college sports round table at the White House. Yes. And he said that he was going to write an executive order within a week that will, quote, solve all of the problems brought forth at that meeting. It's going to save college sports. Ben, what do you think is going to come with this? Anything? Nothing. It's not going to fix college sports because there'll be a bunch of lawsuits and they'll take it all the way to the Supreme Court. There's a lot of people making a lot of money off college athletes because they have NIL deals. So it's going to take the Supreme Court to do something. Those, those presidential things are nice, but it's not going to solve the problem. Next, Nicola Yokech was asked about potentially playing for another team in an interview over the weekend. He said, I wouldn't like to imagine that. And he went on to say that he found his life here. His kids were born here, so on and so forth. Do you think he's the type of guy that's going to stick with one team his whole career?
Well, I'm surprised. I would be surprised to be as a long career career career. He seems like the kind of guy. He doesn't seem to really enjoy playing in the NBA. He'd rather be sitting back home with his horses and all that and fudzing around at the barn and all that. But you know, you get to be playing long enough. You're going to eventually play on another team. There's very few people to stay on one team. So chances are he'll go somewhere else. Next, Ben, the coach traded Zaire Franklin to the Green Bay Packers. He's only a couple years from move from an all-pro season. You think this is a big move for the Packers? I wouldn't say it's a big move. It's a name we've heard of, which is rare on deep. How do we do, Kubolo? You passed us an issue. That is it. We put out the bar. I want the game.
