The then 24-year-old safety showed up for a tryout after getting waived by the Arizona Cardinals. He felt confident from his film, but the team said his speed and jumps did not match up in person. That rejection stung, especially since Owens always prided himself on his athleticism from college. He lit a fire under him, and he promised himself no more tryouts like that. Just three weeks later, he headed to Houston for another chance. Owens crushed his Texans workout and earned a spot on their practice squad right away.
