Flooding in Australia's Northern Territory has hit a new record at the Daily River community, where the water reached 16.26 meters at. The police station gauge, that's just above the previous high of 16.25 meters from 1998, officials say the river will stay at major flood levels for at least the next week. Meanwhile, in nearby Catherine, the flood threat has eased as the river dropped below flood level on Friday afternoon. But a huge clean-up effort is underway, and the town's mayor is calling on the Australian Defence Force for help, saying locals can't handle it alone. Residents in Daily River, also known as Now You, were evacuated on Saturday and are sheltering at Darwin's showgrounds. It's the second major flood this year for the community. The levels didn't get this high last time. Over 800 people remain in evacuation centers across the region, with many facing weeks of recovery. Further rain is forecast for parts of the top end, including heavier falls near the Victoria River, where minor flooding could hit Calcurringi.
