Even though production dropped 5%, the overall worth jumped 20%. That's mainly thanks to skyrocketing demand from China. Export to China nearly tripled, rising from about 33,000 tons to over 76,000 tons. China now by 61% of Australia's total almond exports with India close behind at around 20,000 tons. Growers are seeing their best returns in a decade, calling it a perfect storm. Favorable trade deals, a low exchange rate, and zero tariffs on Australian almonds give them a big edge over competitors like California, which face. 50% duties. Meanwhile, the industry is gearing up for an even bigger year. Forecasters predict a record harvest of 167,000 tons this season.
