Talmud Bavli - Berachos 5a
R' Levi bar Chama said in the name of R' Shimon ben Lakish: A person should always yargiz his yetzer ha'tov (good inclination) against his yetzer ha'ra (bad inclination).
Rashi (ibid.)
yargiz - that he should wage war with his yetzer ha'ra.
R' Avraham ben ha'Rambam - Essay on Drashos of Chazal
It says “yargiz” which means “to cause to rule over” or “to cause to dominate” [in reference to] the yetzer ha’tov, which is the mind, and the yetzer ha’ra is the bodily desires and things like that. The intent of the matter is that a person should cause his mind to rule over and dominate his [desire for] bodily enjoyment, and should think about this continually.
