The metal core crew from Orange County got a brutal welcome at two Mexico shows, Monterey and Mexico City, where fans made it clear they came only for the headminers. Monterey packed a football stadium with 30,000 screaming metalheads, sold out and rowdy. Atreu hit the stage after Carcass, Morbid Angel and Lauren Harris, but instead of cheers, they got silence when their backdrop dropped, then coins, smashed cups, and random junk flying their way. The crowds saw Atreu as too emo for their taste, wanting pure metal or nothing. Base player Dan Jacobs called it scary as hell, with stuff pelting them the whole set. Their bases took a keychain bullet to the face, splitting it open and landing him on the front page of the next day's paper.
