The regulator claims tens of thousands of customers who bought home, car, or motorbike policies online between March 2020 and July 20. 34 were promised up to 30% off for a year, but lost those savings if they changed their policy. The problem stemmed from unclear advertising that did not mention discounts would vanish after tweaks like swapping cars or addresses. Auto and general knew about it since as early as 2016, but waited years to fix it, or tell customers, according to ASIC.
