Arkansas Honors Nolan Richardson with Statue

0:00On March 5, Arkansas basketball fans have big news to celebrate. The raise of backs of building a statue of their legendary coach, Nolan Richardson, right outside Bud Walton Arena. Richardson guided the team to three final four trips and their only national championship in 1994. Earlier in his career, Richardson built an impressive resume. Born in El Paso, Texas, he coached at a junior college where he went undefeated at 37 wins in zero losses to claim a national title. Then at the University of Tulsa, he became the first African-American coach to win the National Invitational Tournament. Richardson's impact went far beyond the court. Over 17 seasons in Fayetteville, he earned 15 postseason bursts and picked up coach of the year honors multiple times across conferences. He's in both the college basketball hall of fame and the Naysmith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The plans got unveiled at halftime during Wednesday's game against Texas on March 4. It's a fitting tribute to a coach who transformed the program.
