I'm Corey, and this is your Pulse of the City, Sydney News today. At the Standthorp Apple and Grey Parvus Festival in Queensland, 65-year-old Carrie Stratford reigns as the undisputed Apple peeling champion. She has claimed 21 titles over the years, filling a shelf with trophies from the Biannual event. This time around, Stratford aimed to break her own record in the longest continuous peel contest, which allows 10 minutes per apple. While she finished with a strong peel, measuring nearly 4 meters, it fell short of her previous best of over 6 meters from 2018. Other contestants gave it their all, including a cookery writer who took the fastest peel title. No one admits to practicing secretly, keeping things casual despite the friendly rivalry around the table. Stratford pushes through tough health challenges to compete, including a rare condition called Durkham's Disease and another blood disorder that leave. Her and constant pain. Her arthritis slows her down too, but she stays relaxed and determined. Now in its 60th year, the festival draws about 70,000 visitors over 10 days, boosting the

local economy by $20 million. It celebrates the area's granite belt orchards, with deep roots in Italian-wide-making heritage from the 1870s. This episode is brought to you by our sponsor.
