Anthropic CEO urges AI industry to slow down

The CEO of Leading AI Company and Throbbing Dario Armaday has urged the industry to slow down the development of the technology in an essay posted overnight. He said the frontier AI is improving faster than safeguards can keep up, citing the hugging face breach earlier this year. Throbbing has released no plans to slow their progress down but has called for tighter controls across the industry and yesterday we spoke with the Godfather of AI Jeffrey Hinton and here's what he had to say. It's very hard to go back and say no we shouldn't release any AI agents, we shouldn't allow them to do things by themselves on the web. I think that ship has sailed so we've now got to figure out, given that people are going to release our agents, how can we ensure that they won't conspire with each other to do bad things? 1:03one of the top AI companies here, Cat should anthropic be leading by example? Absolutely, I think it's concerning when you've got the guys that are researching AI, are concerned about it and then other people are agreeing with them. So I think so, I think there needs to be safeguards because as I said, it's a progression where we're worried about and you don't want to get to a point where super intelligence might be seem like a long way off but if it gets to a point where we the ego around being the first to create it and then suddenly we don't have anything anyway to stop it. It's worrying that they are saying the AI because they would know so much than we would know we know that Elon Musk has agreed with this, Sam Altman from Open AI, he's also agreed with this. Almost like the addict saying take everything out of the house that I might be addicted to, they're actually asking for government to put the guard rails around here because if they slow down, right, then they're not going to keep up with all the other companies. Yeah, absolutely and I think I mean, it looks interesting. I remember 10 years ago, Zach Elon Gates, Sergey Brin Ellison all came out and said, AI is the greatest threat to humanity.

2:06That was 10 years ago and then we sort of bumbleed along to the point we are now. The toothpaste is absolutely out of the tube. We can't put it back in but it is about control, right? It's about building super AI and the moment is being built by AI and it's controlling that AI and that's where you have these massive issues. So it's about how do we get to a point of control and under whose control and how does regulation, education, how do the institutions keep pace with that? But on top of these companies, they're ungovernable. Like it's been proven that states can't actually put that legislation around them because they don't care. Yeah, so we're asking for a lot of self-control and a lot of self-regulation until you point over, yeah, I mean, we really don't know what they're doing because at the end of the day, they're building dollar companies.
