About this episode
Sometimes we confuse effort with usefulness.
We work harder.
We do more.
We make ourselves exhausted.
And because everyone can see how much effort we're putting in, we assume we're solving the problem.
But effort isn't always the same thing as effectiveness.
Answer The Need Instead Of Performing The Effort explores the difference between looking busy and actually addressing what matters.
If someone needs clarity, giving them ten more explanations may not help.
If someone needs consistency, making one dramatic gesture may not fix the problem.
If a project needs a better system, working longer hours may simply create more exhaustion.
If a relationship needs trust, constantly proving how much you care may not replace the consistency that trust requires.
Ask a different question.
Not:
"How much am I doing?"
But:
"What does this situation actually need from me?"
Sometimes the answer is effort.
Sometimes it's patience.
Sometimes it's a boundary.
Sometimes it's an apology.
Sometimes it's a conversation.
Sometimes it's stepping back and allowing someone else to take responsibility.
Real usefulness isn't always dramatic.
It can look surprisingly simple.
The goal isn't to make your effort visible.
The goal is to make your effort matter.
You don't need to exhaust yourself just to prove that you care.
You don't need to perform productivity when a simpler solution would work.
And you don't need to keep doing something simply because you've already invested so much effort into it.
Pay attention to the need.
Then respond to the need.
Let the result—not the amount of struggle—tell you whether your effort was well placed.
Answer The Need Instead Of Performing The Effort.
