Like everything about this franchise, we criticize, but everything was perfect tonight from the GA in the in center field to the GA patches that the angels will wear for the rest of the season. Everything was perfect. The big A was sold out. It was packed. It was rocking. It was not an average regular season game at all. And I'll be honest, right? Just I want to get this out of the way right now before we talk about the game. I don't want to sit here. I was born in 2002. Okay. Like I'm not going to sit here and be the guy telling you how to feel, you know, telling

4:16you all the stories and memories of my life and stuff. I was born in 2002, right? I know my place. I know how to read the room. I'm not the guy to tell you, you know, how to feel and react and all I can do is just like you be incredibly sad for our angels family, but for Garrett Anderson's family. And I thought the angels did a phenomenal job, both the broadcasts, having people in the booth, the stadium, everything that went on. It was very touching. It was very moving and it was, you know, it was so relieving that the angels had the performance they had, right? Because just think about how underwhelming, how disappointing it would have been if the angels came out here and laid an egg. And they had every reason too, you know, as much as you can use emotion to lead you to a great performance like the angels had tonight, you know, all the emotion pregame. It's, you know, it's, it's like when an NFL player talks about playing the Super Bowl

5:19and how it hardly feels like a football game with all the extra curricular things. The breaks are longer, the intros are longer, the emotions are higher, right? You could easily see the angels have gotten kind of caught up, get caught up in the emotion of this game and struggle against a red hot, red hot Padres team that comes into the game at 13 and 6 feels like every single time you look up on M.O.B. Twitter or M.O.B.com app or any scores app you have, the Padres are walking someone off at Petco Park. That's how this season is felt. So I would not have blamed this team for coming out here against a really good opponent on a really emotional day and just not having it. But then I remembered, we got Jose Soriano and we've got a really, you know, at times really talented electric baseball team. So I can't think of a more fitting day when you're on, you know, you can't be honoring

6:19a more fitting player than Garrett Anderson to have a performance like this. So I'll just put that out there. I thought the angels did a great job. I thought a very emotional day, very exciting and a fitting end. So Reston P.S. Garrett Anderson and what a great job by the angels both off the field and then on the field. You normally are used to the angels being below average, both off and on the field. But today they are above in every way. So let's not waste any time, a lot of different ways we can go with this one. We have to start with that, but you know where I'm going next. This is the locked on player of the game. Player of the game. Who else? Who else? But Jose Soriano. I don't know if you guys remember a year or two ago when I had a rule, which was I'm not going to use the player of the game on the opposing starting pitcher because that's just too obvious, right? Like half the games, the most obvious starting pitcher or the most obvious, excuse me,

7:23player of the game is whoever the heck the starting pitcher is against the angels. That's how bad things were. Well we need to start having the same rule with Jose Soriano. It's a waste of the graphic to call him the player of the game because the sky is blue. Jose Soriano pitched and is the player of the game. He has lowered his E.R.A. to 0.28, 5 and 0 now through 32 and 2 thirds innings. He's got 39 strikeouts. The whip is 0.73 as he pushed together another gem, another gem. Now was this his best start of the season? No, which is pretty incredible to say when you give up two hits, obviously the pitch count a little higher than it's been in other games, right? Where he does have the four walks tonight. He does go to 99 pitches and has to get taken out in the sixth inning. He does not even go through a complete six innings, but again, you're going up against

8:23a red hot lineup, going up against a really good team and you did more than enough. You did more than enough. Fortunately, the angel's offense from the second inning onwards was cooking and you didn't need Jose Soriano to go seven and a half innings in order to feel good about this thing. He did more than enough. He's just so locked in right now. He's just so locked in again. Is there a single moment watching this start from Jose Soriano that you're even remotely concerned about him? Even when he strings a walk or two together, there's no concern that he's going to blow it up. In years past, Jose Soriano was good and he wasn't great. He was never amazing, but he was good because he would get in jams and get out of him. But now it's a surprise when Jose Soriano gets in any sort of trouble. I mean, think about it. A one, two, three second, a one, two, three, third, but things got real eventful in the third inning. A one-out single from Ty France, and he walks.

9:25You got two on. You get it out, but you've still got Fernando Tati's up. You get into a full count with runners on the corners, not able to get the job done there. Basis juiced against Jackson Merrill, the guy who, I don't know if it was yesterday, a couple days ago, just hit one down the line to walk things off. He's red hot. And in one pitch, you throw a sinker down in the way. You get a ground out. Vintage Jose Soriano. The strikeouts are there again. The control wasn't necessarily there, but it was very relieving to see that even in a jam like this, with the bases loaded where you have two walks in a base hit, older liable. The sinker, splinker, whatever you want to call it, gets Jackson Merrill. To ground out, you get out of the third inning. And from there, he was back to Groven. One, two, three, fourth with two strikeouts, fifth inning. You give up one walk, but again, not concerned. A two out walk. I'm not concerned. I'm really not. It's not lead off walks.

10:27It's two out walks. So I was not concerned at all again. He strikes out back to back guys to start the sixth does give up a base hit in a walk. And again, we've been critical of Kurt Suzuki. And rightfully so sometimes you got to give him his credit. I thought he took out Soriano at the perfect time. You given an opportunity. Some guys, you know, and in the past, he gives up that base hit to Machado. And they think about pulling him there. You give him another shot, he walks, both guards, okay, he didn't get the job done. Time to let him go. You've got a lefty coming up. It was interesting that they brought Solseth in the game in the game. Righty lefty match up there, but Solseth seems to be the pick when you've got two on and two outs to get one out and he got the job done. You know, I was scared when Sean Anderson came up. I don't care if you're up eight, nothing. Sean Anderson coming up always terrifies me, but he has a one, two, three, seven. And a one, two, three, eighth, which is great before Romano comes in. And it was good to see him have a ninth. It wasn't perfect. He gave up a double there, but still a ninth inning to gain some confidence. But again, this game starts with Jose Soriano because he was great from start to finish.

11:32He really never had any sort of issues, 99 pitches. And he's taken what we said at the beginning of the year of the angels need to win a majority of the games that Jose Soriano and you say, Kikuchi, start, he's taking full responsibility of that right now. You say Kikuchi's not getting it done, but he is and then some. I don't care who the opposing, you know, starter is. I know Matt Waldron is not an ace, right? But still every game, Jose Soriano pitches, you need him to win whether he's going against a Matt Waldron or he's going against, you know, a Hunter Brown or something like that. If you, if you don't win those games, you're not going to win many series. He's taking that responsibility and running with it, 5 and 0, 0 to 8, ERA, Jose Soriano, your player of the game, your player of the season, and it's not even close. Like Mike Trott's been phenomenal, Joe Adele has been great, but like, Jose Soriano could not start a game for the next two months, and I think he still might be the player of the year. He's been that good. He's the best pitcher in starting baseball, best starting pitcher in starting baseball

12:35right now. Yes, like JCH says, say, young here we come, hey, we're not quite there yet, but you know, you know who, who thinks he has the ability to get it done. So Jose Soriano, player of the game, phenomenal, we're going to take our break when we come back. We'll talk about the offense. I know it's kind of a, it's a weird show. I'll be honest, because I don't want to get too excited. It's a very, you know, somber day coming into the game, but it's a great win. And, you know, Garrett Anderson would want us to be fired up about this game. I know that. We're going to take the break when we come back. The angels take the first game in this so Cal battle. Despite the Padres coming into this ball game 13 and six on what is a very emotional and touching night for the angels honoring the passing or honoring Garrett Anderson after his sudden tragic passing today. Again, thoughts and prayers with his family, with the entire angels organization. Very, very rough day. But the angels did everything on the field they could to honor him both before the game, but most importantly, during it with their play. We already talked about Jose Soriano five and oh, just two hits allowed in this one. But man, oh man, the angels offense is absolutely scorching hot. And that's where we're going to go next.

16:43This is what you'll be talking about. Angels offense is now there's no other way to put it. They are scorching, right? We have talked a lot about the walks and the role the walks have played. We've talked about the extra base hits, the home runs. Obviously, we know what Mike Trout just did in New York setting history. But man, oh man, it's not just one or two things now. It's not just the walks. It's not just the home runs. We're talking about a team that is consistently consistently putting up enough runs to win ball games. Think about it. They lost two games of two of the last four games, despite scoring a combined 14 runs in those two games. They win two games, scoring 18 runs. They score eight today. They scored nine on Sunday. Heck, even in their losses where they lose by four runs, it's not for nothing. They lose seven, three last Saturday. They scored 10 runs the day before. This offense is on fire. And what was so great about today is it wasn't necessarily the walks.

17:45It wasn't necessarily the extra base hits. Now, of course, you did have two home runs in this game. You did have a double from Adam Frazier. But I love seeing the rare game where it's a lot of base hits. 13 hits in this ball game. 10 of them base hits. You had just three walks to nine strikeouts, which isn't a ratio you love. But call me crazy. It's almost encouraging to see the angels put up eight runs. In a game where they don't have six walks in a game where they don't hit four home runs in a game where Mike trout doesn't have a hit. Right. So very, very encouraging with what we saw today. Zach Netto has been struggling a bit average wise at least. I know he gets the occasional walk, but for him to get two hits tonight was a great sign. And no one, no one has been struggling more than the duo of Nolan Chonwell and more specifically, uh, Johan Moncada and Josh Lowe scar. Excuse me. That's the do I was going with Nolan Chonwell, obviously been struggling as well. He goes three for five. If it wasn't for horse, they Soriano, you can make the argument. He's the player of the game. The average is just 220 coming into the night for him.

18:45You know, that's on, you know, not going to stay that way. So three for five with him, fantastic. But Moncada leads things off with the home run in the bottom of the second. That got things started. He didn't do anything else after that. But at least it was a sign that he's awake. Oswald Paraza heard what I was saying about Adam Frazier being the surprise of the season and said, do not forget about me. Another two for four for him. The guy's got a nine one nine OPS 909 phenomenal. Adam Frazier, another two hits. He's two for four. He has the big two run double in the second inning. Uh, excuse me. He has the RBI double. Excuse me in the, I'm blanking. I don't know why I'm blank. The RBI triple, excuse me in the second inning and then scores, um, from Zach Netto. No, it was a double. Thank you. I don't know why MLB dot com is telling me otherwise. I remember it being a double. It was a double. Thank you. Frazier does that. Netto singles them in and just like that. It's three nothing going into the third inning. At that point, we know that Jose Sorgano is settled down and it didn't take

19:48much longer for the angels to add more three more in the fourth inning. And this truly in a lot of innings with or games would feel like a dagger, but when you got Jose Sorgano on the mound and you go up six nothing, certainly the dagger was so great is in this bottom of the fourth inning again, another case of getting it all, but mainly with the small ball, you do have the base hit from Adam Frazier. Then you have a two out walk from Mike Trout. You're thinking the innings over. Now it's not then no one's on well with the base hit to score for a Frazier. And then how many times would you say, okay, the angels got something that's done, new picture coming in, but Joe Adele, you knew that bat was going to keep heating up and boy, oh boy, is it two to pitch? And I don't know how the heck, how the heck a curve ball this low is ripped, this hard, a hundred off the bat, able to score and shine well with the two RBI double that made it six nothing. The angels man, like this offense, I'm not ready to say anything about the rotation outside of Sorgano. I'm still not ready to say anything about the bullpen. And there's still a couple of guys who need to be playing better, certainly

20:51in the field, but man, oh man, this lineup, it's deep. Like I think even like last year and the year before that, when there were signs, right, when there was guys having explosions, Joe Adele having great stretches last year, netto doing what he's done, even trout having some home run hitting stretches, Shawn will having hitting high, you know, average wise, the depth that we are seeing. Let's not forget Jorge Soler has been playing real well and he's not available right now. The angel's depth is the best it's been in quite some time when you're talking about having too many infielders, Adam Frazier and Parasda and Netto all cooking, obviously Shawn will netto are staples, but when you're talking about Frazier and Parasda getting the job done, Juan Cod is the one who who needs to step up or he's not going to start even on Christmas and when he comes in, get some base hits. So the infield that suddenly, you know, used to be such a concern is Christian Moore need to be called up. That's what he could take into his time. He can get ready and triple A. The infield's holding it down. And we know what this outfield is going to do outside of Josh Low,

21:54easily obviously not even close the biggest hole. Oh, hoppy right there behind him, but outside of Josh Low and no hoppy, you have maybe too many infielders. There's depth in this lineup, there's depth. It's a great thing to see you're able to handle varieties and lefties now. You've got a bunch of varieties in the line, of course, with Netto and Trout and Adele, Parasda now, a hoppy, of course, Solare when he's back. But you know, you do have some variety now with Montcata, obviously being a switch, but then Low Frazier, Shawn, who well, that's why I was okay with seeing Taylor Ward go. I know he's been absolutely ripping the cover off the ball, but we have plenty of varieties that can rip the cover off the ball. And now we have even more than we thought with what we're seeing right now from Oswald Parasda, right? So man, fired up the depth of this lineup is great. Yeah, I don't really know what else to say. I'm real fired up to get the job done against a team like this. And I know the opposing pitcher was not necessarily the scariest one, but hey, it's still a major league pitcher and you get the job done.

22:55Now the question is, what the heck do we get tomorrow from you say, Cacucci? It's a question we've had throughout the year. What a huge opportunity it would be for the angels who are now 11 and 10. They're back above 500. Man, oh man, this was not when the win streak was supposed to start. It was supposed to start the following weekend when you've got Kansas City and the Chicago White Sox for six in a row, very winnable games. And then yes, the Met series might be hard. Might not right now without their playing, but then you get the White Sox again, right? So this was to stretch next week where you're supposed to start winning games and getting above 500 11 and 10 right now. If you can win one of the next two, you're guaranteed to have a winning record going into the series against the blue jays. Even if you go one and two in that series, I'm okay with that knowing that what you can do against the royals and White Sox after that. So you have to be absolutely thrilled with where the angels are. Right now, I agree, you're absolutely right. We should be 13 and eight.

23:56He says, yes, I totally agree. We lost both games against the Yankees that should have been wins. We should be 13 and eight, absolutely, absolutely. But still, again, if you came into the year and told me that the angels would be above 500 midway through a series against the Padres after you just played four against the Yankees after you just played three against the reds, after you just played three against the braves, after you just played three against the Mariners, after you just played three against the Cubs, after you just played three against the Astros, you would take it. You would absolutely take it. So I'm telling you right now, I don't want to start saying outlandish things. I'm not saying anything about how the rest of the season's going to go. I'm only talking about where we're at right now compared to where we thought we would be at right now. And if you told me the angels, tell you right now, they win tomorrow. If you're 12 and 10 and you don't have Grayson Rodriguez, you don't have them Joyce. You don't have a couple other bullpen arms. You've been without Jorge Salera couple games. The air I say through 22 games. I'm ready to say a minus start to the season, considering the expectations and the injuries. I'm ready to say something like that.

24:57If you win this series against the Padres. So man, oh man. Right when I say that, I'm already thinking, here we go. You jinxed it, but we got two opportunities tomorrow and Sunday to get something done. I will be back here live tomorrow. Another 638 first pitch. And we honored him with one of the great games we've seen from this team this year and really in a while and ate nothing when one of the more dominant wins we've seen from the angels in quite some time back to back dominant wins a plus 15 run differential in the last two games, which is pretty crazy. A plus what is that 20 run differential in the last four games, including loss in that, by the way. So great job by the angels.
