7 News with Pangeasamus and Michael Usher But evening tensions have eased in Alice Springs tonight, but the town is shattered after the abduction and murder of five-year-old Kumanjai Little Baby. Her accused killer, Jefferson Lewis, is in a Darwin police station awaiting charges. And tonight we have new vision of the furious scenes of his arrest and the damage caused in Thursday's riot. Alice Springs Thursday night and down at Pigley's bottle shop are raid within a riot. As the crowd around the corner raged in the dark, small mob of drifters took a midnight chance, rising open the entry, then kicking down the door, what followed next is looting like no other, an extraordinary grab and go of beer, wine and spirits, where what wasn't stolen ended up smashed. At Pigley's today, they were picking up the pieces, as the cost of Thursday's firestorm

becomes ever clear. At this shell-servo, night shift staff locked themselves in, then returned hours later to find the place cleaned out. Today out of bounds, it's now another awful reminder of the night Alice Springs erupted. And with the crime scene now cleared, a first real look at where the five-year-old was found, an unremarkable riverbank on the edge of Alice Springs. New video, too, of the arrest of Jefferson Lewis, as a fuming mob let wild. Don't want him in the air, Billy! But it was all quiet last night, after a wake which saw a little girl lost, a massive manhunt and an evening of anarchy, Alice Springs is exhausted. Everyone in the community has called for calm and calm has resulted. Today, Oval's sat silent with AFL cancelled, bottle shops allowed open, but three hours only. Had a cup of beer then, when I'm relaxed, I'm a bit upset and angry.

In the town's main mall, Saturday Business, but in its Aboriginal camps, sorry Business, the term they use to mourn the dead. It's done in private and will last for days. The news has devastated people, people that are in all sorts of states. I don't think that's just here in Alice Springs. It's hell, nation. At Warburden, an Aboriginal-outpost in remote WA, a quiet coming together to remember a child they won't forget. We have seen and heard so much rumors. But back in Alice Springs, there is as much grief as there is anger and questions as concerns. Concerns about how a middle-aged man just days out of jail could arrive in the night and take a five-year-old girl. Of course we'll ask the hard questions, but at the end of the day, what we had is a monster doing unspeakable act and had delivered that devastating heartbreaking outcome. And Sam Payne joins us live from Alice Springs. Sam Jefferson-Lewis is still get to be charged.

Yes, Angie, the Northern Territory Chief Minister. I hope that that would happen today to help calm tensions and show the town justice in action. The police is still building a case against Lewis. They continue to gather evidence and the charges are expected to be due at any time. Meanwhile, police are still hunting those. They suspect helped hide Lewis during that five-day period with fears that they could face retribution to. Thank you, Sam.
