Alana's Fight: AML Awareness & Hope

0:00On April 21st, a lot of Matthews, a 26 year old from the UK, thought she just had a nasty flu or chest infection back in late 20, 23. She saw her doctor twice, got sent home with no tests, but her breathing got so bad her partner called 999. Rush to the hospital, docs hit her with a real diagnosis, acute myeloid leukemia, one of the toughest blood cancers out there. She fought hard, spending six months in the hospital on intense chemo, hitting remission by July 2024. Even finished her university degree with first class honors during a break. But the cancer came roaring back weeks later, leading to more treatments in clinical trials with new drug combos. Her best friend Katie Powell washed it all, calling Alana a hero with an unbeatable attitude and infectious laugh. Even as things worsened, Alana planned a wedding in just five days, powered through the day without complaint, and kept cheering Katie on during an ANN, 85 mile charity walk.

1:01Katie's now speaking out for AML Awareness Day, raising thousands through walks and runs for blood cancer UK. The charity warns only three intense survive the hardest blood cancers like AML. With over 2,900 new cases yearly in the UK, they push for faster diagnoses, more trials, and better funding. Things like Alana show why trusting your gut matters, push for answers if symptoms linger.
