Alabama Toughens Fleeing Law Enforcement Penalties

Alabama State Senator Lance Bell recently pushed through a bill to toughen penalties for people who flee from police during chases. Senate Bill, 233 upgrades alluding law enforcement to a Class D felony. The measure passed the State Senate on Tuesday. Bell sponsored the legislation and talked about it on a local radio show earlier this week. He pointed out that many pursuits happened because of the same repeat offenders who keep ignoring police. These chases often endanger everyone on the roads, with drivers showing little regard for safety. Lawmakers like Bell say stronger laws will hold these runners more accountable and cut down on the risks. On Interstate 20 between Alabama and Georgia, officers see three to four such incidents every week. A lot involves stolen cars coming over from out of state.
