Alabama's Forever Wild: A Conservation Success Story

Back in November 1992, 84% of voters approved a constitutional amendment creating the forever wildland trust too. Protect forests, wildlife habitats, and recreation spots across the state. This program has delivered big results over the last 34 years, safeguarding nearly 300,000 acres of land. It has also built 392 miles of trails and preserved more than 228 tracks in 35 counties, including nature areas and park expansions. Voters showed huge support again in 2012 when they renewed it for another 20 years. And that amendment got more yes votes than any other on the ballot that year, beating out every candidate and proposal. These protected lands mean families can hike, hunt, and enjoy nature today while keeping them safe for future generations.
