Sponsored by state representative Chris Cells from Greenville, the bill now has 57 co-sponsors and strong backing from the National Rifle, Association, which rallied members to contact legislators in support. Meanwhile, Bama Carrey, Alabama's no-compromised gun rights group, is urging members to fight the proposal. They view it as a temporary gimmick that lets local governments decide whether to join in. The group wants the Senate to amend the bill for a full, permanent repeal of state and local sales taxes on guns, ammo, suppressors, magazines, and other firearms.
