Alabama Plants Liberty Trees for USA Semiquincentennial

0:00On March 13th, here's the latest out of Birmingham. Alabama is marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with a special project. The Alabama USA Simequince Intennial Commission is handing out Liberty Trees to 34 of the state's 67 counties. These are Princeton Alms Trees, standing six to eight feet tall, and each comes with a commemorative bronze plaque. The first set of Trees went to recipients last month during an event at the American Village in Montevallo. A second batch is set for delivery on March 16th, with the final group ready in early April. These trees draw from a key piece of American history. In August 1775, Loyalist cut down the original Liberty Tree, prompting patriots in the 13 colonies to choose new ones as, symbols of defiance and togetherness. State leaders see the trees as lasting symbols of freedom. They aim to link future generations with the bold ideals that built the nation and honor those who fought for it.
