Alabama Mourns Fallen Airmen in Iraq Crash

0:00In Birmingham, it's March 18th. Here's what is happening. Alabama Governor, K-I-V, ordered all-state flags lower to half-staff to honor three airmen from Birmingham's 117th air refueling. Wing. They died along with three others when a KC-135 Shraddotanker crashed in Western Iraq on March 12th. The crew supported Operation Epic Fury. The fallen included 33-year-old Major John Alex Cleaner of Trustsville, Alabama, 31-year-old Captain Arianna Savino of Washington, state, and 34-year-old technical sergeant Ashley Pruitt of Kentucky. All served in the Wing's 99th air refueling squadron based at Sumter Smith Joint National Guard Base. Major Cleaner, an Auburn University graduate and eight-year Air Force veteran, led squadron standardization.
