Alabama Enhances Highway Safety with New Truck Driver Rules

The new rules target commercial drivers of semi-trucks and delivery vans. They must follow federal work rules and prove they can communicate in English. Drivers need an Alabama commercial driver license, and using a fake foreign one is now a crime. This comes after months of teamwork between the Alabama law enforcement agency and immigration and customs enforcement. The agency's motor carrier safety unit has sent more than 555 people to ICE for checks since October 2025. Families and truckers alike use these roads every day, and leaders say enforcing the rules protects everyone. Governor Ivey highlighted how truckers keep the economy moving while stressing the need for qualified drivers behind the wheel. Meanwhile, 221 of those referrals led to detentions after traffic stops, though it's unclear how many face deportation.
