Alabama Basketball Star Faces Felony Charge

0:00On March 21st, Alabama basketball guard Aiden Holloway faces a felony charge for first degree possession of marijuana after police searched his apartment and found 2.1 pounds of the drug, along with no tax stamp. The 21-year-old junior was arrested Monday and bonded out early that morning on a $5,000 bond. Investigators seized $400 from a jacket in his place and spotted what they called drug transactions on his phone, including texts. A meeting up after the season, they also pulled trash from outside his apartment, finding more marijuana and paraphernalia with his name on it, which led to the search warrant. Holloway was kicked off campus right away and missed Alabama's first round NCAA tournament, win over Hofstra on Friday. His coach, Nate Oats, has stayed supportive, saying he'll stick by the player through this tough time. Now, Holloway's attorney argues the trash pool broke his fourth amendment rights against unreasonable searches and plans to file a motion to toss out the evidence.

1:03He also hopes to meet school officials next week to lift the campus ban and maybe get him back on the court if Alabama advances. The case can mean up to 10 years in prison and a $15,000 fine if convicted. But the defense challenge might change everything as things play out in court.
