Air Canada Crash: 2 Pilots Die, 70 Survive

0:00On March 25, 230-year-old air-candidate pilots died Sunday night when their jet collided with a fire truck during landing in New York's La Guardia airport. Antoine Forrest and Mackenzie Gunter were at the controls of the plane, carrying more than 70 passengers who all escaped unharmed. The fire truck had permission to cross the tarmac just before midnight to check on another aircraft that aborted take-off. Once before impact, air traffic controllers urgently radioed for it to stop. Leaders from the Federal Aviation Administration and New York Governor Kathy Hokul called the crash a heartbreaking tragedy. They noted it marked the worst aviation incident at the airport in more than three decades, striking hard because the pilots were just starting their careers. Both men were based in Canada. Forrest joined Jazz Aviation, which flew the air-candidate express route in December 2022, after working as a bush pilot fighting fires in, Quebec. Gunter had graduated the year before from an aviation program at Seneca Polytechnic
