AI Restores Voice to MND Patient

0:00On March 4th, Yvonne Johnson, a 55-year-old from North London, has battled motor neuron disease for nearly six years. The condition has weakened her muscles, taken away her ability to walk, and worst of all, silenced her once lively voice. But new artificial intelligence technology has brought her speech back in a remarkable way. A company called 11 Labs recreated her voice using clips from old voice notes, videos, and voice mails. Now Yvonne can communicate sounding just like her old self, which has been a game-changer for someone who always loves chatting and connecting with people. Her family has felt the emotional lift, too. Her husband Orville and daughter Kayla say it feels like Yvonne's true personality is back, especially after they use the AI voice for renewing there. Vows on their 25th wedding anniversary in front of friends and family. Beyond that, Yvonne teamed up with artist Sarah Pope for a project called Portrait of a Voice. Sarah captured Yvonne's smile and photos and painted her lips, auctioning the piece to raise more than 15,000 pounds for an M&D charity.
