AI Detects Breast Cancer as Well as Radiologists

When paired with one human, the AI delivered similar results overall, though it flagged more non-cancer cases and excelled on tricky first-time scans. With a 30% shortage of radiologists now, projected to reach 40% by 2028, the AI promises big-time savings of up to 32% on reads. But it boosted arbitration needs by 22 to 142% across test sites. Challenges like paper-based systems and scanner variations mean the AI needs fine-tuning to avoid false alarms.
