Affordable Homes Bloom at Kirkland Gardens

0:00On April 23, Asheville District Council is turning an old care home site in Kirkby and Asheville into 20 affordable homes called Kirkland Gardens. The spot used to house Kirkland's residential care home, which shut down back in 2016 and got demolished four years later. Now, after plans got the green light last April, they're moving forward to build these units for folks on the housing register. The mix includes four three bedroom houses, six two bedroom houses, two two bedroom bungalows, and eight flats, four one bedrooms and four, two bedrooms. All of them will join the council stock, helping ease the pressure on local housing needs. With 4,438 people waiting for council homes last year, up from 4,395 the year. Before this project, mix a real dent. It's part of their pledge to deliver over 200 new homes in four years, adding to the 16 already up at Adrian Sheldon View and 40 more, nearly done on Hardwick Lane.
