Acuff Jr. Sweeps SEC Freshman, Player of Year Awards

0:00On March 22nd, Darius A.Cuff Jr. made history by sweeping the southeastern conference's top freshman and player of the year awards, as picked by the league coaches. In his debut season with Arkansas Razorbacks, the guard averaged 22 points and 6 assists per game. He shot 49% from the field and 43% from beyond the arc. He's only the third player ever in conference history to claim both honors in one season. A.Cuff also shattered a league mark with eight weekly awards, including a streak of five straight freshman nods. He topped the SEC and scoring in assists. The first to do that since pistol Pete Moravitch back in 1969-70. Coach John Calipari praised the feat as well earned in such a tough league. A.Cuff's play fueled the Razorbacks to a 23 win, eight loss regular season, and their best conference mark since the 1994 national champs. He even set a new SEC scoring record with 49 points at Alabama in February.

1:02Lately, A.Cuff poured in 28 points and grabbed 13 boards in a blowout win over Texas. He missed the Missouri game, nursing an ankle injury, but wore a boot just for rest. Calipari says there's no plan to sit him for the SEC tournament. The conference tourney tips off March 11th, with Arkansas up first, March 13th at 8.30 PM against the lower seed.
