Abused Baby's Parents Deny Charges

The boy was placed with a couple four months before he died on July 27th, 2023. Prosecutors say he suffered systematic sexual abuse, physical assaults, and was smothered, with 40 injuries found in the post-mortem, including severe throw bruising from airway obstruction. Over this week, a colleague of Varley, a teacher named Janet G, testified that he showed up at her home end of June, looking distressed. The 37-year-old admitted struggling with sleep deprived care and having harmful thoughts about drowning or suffocating the baby. She said he quickly assured her he would never act on them, and she believed him after he mentioned telling the school had teacher. Mrs. G, a close friend and fellow safeguarding lead at their blackpool school, broke down recounting how she learned of Preston's death ten days, later while on holiday. Varley had been arrested for neglect, and when she called, he insisted he did nothing wrong.

New testimony revealed in decent images, including video of Varley, laughing while exposing himself to Preston and his excuses like share towels for, DNA traces, or a doctor's request for photos. The couple took the boy to hospital three times for illnesses and bruises, but explained them away without raising alarms. Pathology doesn't match Varley's claim of accidental drowning in the bath. Meanwhile, both men deny the charges. Varley faces murder, multiple assaults, cruelty, and image offenses while his partner denies causing the death. And related cruelty.
