On November 11, 1918, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the Armistice of Compiègne was signed, ending the hostilities on the Western Front of World War I. This day is now commemorated as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day in various countries.

1921: Tomb of the Unknowns:

The Tomb of the Unknowns, also known as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, was dedicated at Arlington National Cemetery in the United States on November 11, 1921.

1975: Angola Independence:

Angola gained independence from Portugal on November 11, 1975.

1992: The Church of England votes to allow women to become priests.

2004: Yasser Arafat's Death:

• Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat died in a French military hospital on November 11, 2004.
