A Tip For Freshening a Smelly Garbage Disposal
About this episode
Citrus peels can keep a kitchen garbage disposal smelling clean without extra cleaners. Toss lemon or orange peels into the disposal periodically to cut lingering food odors and reduce how often the sink needs a deep clean. If the disposal starts feeling gunked up, a handful of ice cubes can help knock buildup loose.

Hello, Tip and Dales, and welcome back to daily tips that may or may not help you. I am one of your hosts, Ned Donovan. My co-host, Ariel, is traveling, and you're going to get some solo tips for the next couple of weeks. Today's tip is mine, and it comes to us from my mother. Shout out to Devakirtis, and this tip doesn't apply to me, but it might apply to you. And it's this, if you have a garbage disposal in your kitchen, instead of throwing lemon peels and orange peels in the trash or the compost or wherever, put them in your garbage disposal. It will keep your garbage disposal and your sink smelling nice. If you only put food down the garbage disposal, eventually it starts to smell bad. Throwing lemon peels in there and orange peels keeps everything fresh and nice all the time, and significantly reduces the amount of time you have to clean it. Also, as a separate thing, if ever your garbage disposal gets a little gunked up, and it's hard to use correctly, throw some ice cubes down there. It does a great job getting everything out of there without damaging anything, and it's a really great way to clean your garbage disposal.
So this has been garbage disposal tips that may or may not help you. For me, I don't have one, doesn't help me. But when I did, as a kid, I got these tips from my mom, and I think they are excellent. We will be back tomorrow with our April Guest Tipper, Josh Rivera, fresh from the Broadway cast of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, open right now, stay tuned, and we'll see you tomorrow.
