A Tip For Breaking Your Phone-in-Bed Habit

About this episode

Scrolling a phone in bed can quietly stack up problems: later bedtimes, worse sleep, and a neck-and-shoulder position that starts to hurt. A simple fix is to stop the in-bed scroll and use a phone blocker that cuts off games and social apps after a set time. Tools like Jomo can add friction that makes late-night doomscrolling harder to keep doing.

Ariel, you know, I'm up to date on the newest, uh, health fads in this country and I have heard that the thing that is most harming me is the fact that I scroll my phone in bed for hours before I go to sleep and I dare you to prove me right. No, I, today we're having an anti-tip because I did this for way too long and I'm here to say that I was wrong. Scrolling on your phone in bed is the thing not to do, so don't do that. So the positive of this is stop scrolling on your phone in bed. I have done this forever and yet recently it has really started to take a toll. I was telling my physical therapist that I used to be able to do all these little things and it was no big deal and then all of a sudden all the little things became one big thing. I said that is generally how it works, like it doesn't matter until it matters.

And for me, that means the scrolling on my phone in bed wasn't a problem until it decided to become a problem because the shoulder slash arm-hold muscle combined with the neck being in a terrible position was a recipe for an anti-tip. Combined with just not sleeping. Yeah, I say I have way too late scrolling in bed. So stop scrolling in bed, I'm talking to you. To recall one of our past guest-tippers, Ronald, Young Junior, go to bed right now. I would like to add to this tip by saying I solved this for myself with an app called JOMO, J-O-M-O. They do not sponsor us, but you should. It allows me to say hey, after 9.45 pm, block all games and social networks on my phone. Can't you get around it, though? Yeah, but JOMO is way more complicated than the normal one on the iPhone, so like, can you? Yes. But you can also set it up so that you can't, which is terrifying.

Okay. JOMO. Tip and nail, JOMO. JOMO. JOMO. Ring Central's AI receptionist uses voice AI to answer on the first ring, so you'll never miss a call again.
