A Reflection For When We Want God To Be As Angry As We Are
About this episode
A Reflection For When We Want God To Be As Angry As We Are
Sometimes we are outraged by the inhumanity and injustice being done around us.
And we want the wrongdoers to be severely punished. We embrace scriptures like Exodus 34:7, where it says the consequences of iniquity can reach to the fourth generation.
But we can completely skip the first part of the verse, which says God keeps “steadfast love (חֶסֶד, hesed) for the thousandth generation, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin.”
Yes, our actions have consequences, and unfortunately those consequences can negatively impact those who follow us.
But four generations of consequences are set against a thousand generations of steadfast love.
God loves. God forgives. God redeems.
