But Houston's lost three in a row. Houston does look like the most fugacy of those six that qualify currently. We said that yesterday before that game yesterday. We'll get Jim Roots thoughts on that. Now, when Joe Pita comes on, Joe Pita for those who have followed this show long enough. And to follow Joe, perhaps through this show, maybe his days at ESPN chalk. He wrote a book called Trading Bases. He's a Wall Street guy. He got hit by an ambulance. He got hit by an ambulance in New York City. And he got injured. And pardon me, I'm getting emotional talking about it.

4:01When he got hit, he, in his convalescence, he wrote this book Trading Bases about baseball modeling. Handicaping baseball. And there's a big hit. And then he sort of transitioned into golf over time with a master's book. He was doing a money ball for the money set where he was rating portfolio advisors in Wall Street using some of those same principles. Anyway, he's back to baseball full bore this year for the first time in years. Oh, I didn't even know that. So we're going to get a three part series from Joe. And today what we want to do is we just want to go to some of the building blocks. Some of the things we're going to sort of discuss is the terms sequencing, which I use when I do my season win totals versus base runs versus a third. What is it called? I can't remember now that you, what is it? Third order wins cluster luck. He uses just talk about that. What those are based on. Pythag, which I talk about when I do my season wins. We'll give a case example of Peter Lonzo.

5:01We'll talk about runs created. Why he loves that. So much pitching luck feeling independent versus ERA. 8:04Now I used Houston yesterday, but it was only three NBA games. There was nothing really paired with yesterday. We brought that up into the show though. Yeah, we brought it up. But look for an opener today. But let's just say you didn't use it. The play, the the brain dead money line parlay in the NBA today is a three teamer. If you didn't add Houston yesterday, sixers, hawks and hornets. Sixers are taken on the Pacers. Hawks are taken on the wizards. Hornets are taken on the bulls. And if you look at our tanking trustworthiness tears, these were mine from yesterday. You know, you can agree or disagree with the trustworthiness rankings. But in essence, I don't trust it. When I say don't trust, when I say trust, I mean trust them to lose. So it's a little, um, converse thinking here. I trust the bulls to lose. I trust the whiz to lose, even though I won six in the last 12. What are they doing? And I trust the Pacers to lose in all these. So that pays if you didn't use last night's game, because last night's game would have made it slightly into plus money.

9:08If you didn't lose last night's game, um, it'll pay you 78 cents on the dollar, roughly, to make this. And we're just going to do this every day. And we went through the whole explanation of a yesterday, um, in terms of why I thought, did we put out a clip, we did put out a clip of that. Um, I, uh, I'll retweet it again today just in terms of how I broke down all these teams. 10, 11 deep in terms of this unbelievable situation in the NBA. It is just a, a sprint to the finish and by sprint to the finish, I mean, in the wrong direction. But in the right direction, if these teams are doing well for their own franchise, that's the conundrum of the NBA. Completely co-sign on that one too. I have, look, I bet the Learnits, um, and then I did a 76ers Hornets, um, Timberwolves Moneyline Parley, which is a little bit different. I, I've been kind of mixing and matching some of the, uh, some of the, I think it's a good opportunity. Packet straight, like, like Gill is, which is kind of all the, all the sides against the tanking teams. Or if you need to boost a number, you know, like I laid five and a half with the wolves tonight.

10:11Um, and then seven and a half with the Hornets thought just kind of throwing them all in the money line. Parley made sense too. Is that the conkin apple in the back? Yes. I added added more con last night. Added more con. Figure out, put my money where my big mouth is after yesterday. Well, let's just recap her folks. Well, I thought you, we reasoned it out very nicely. So as soon as I saw yesterday, Cooper Flagsman ruled out again for tonight. So now we're four games in a row. I have no idea what the plan is for the Dallas Mavericks with him down the stretch here. Uh, I think they are very, very much entering the possible territory of tanking away his rookie of the year award. Conkin apple is right on his heel skill. And I kind of dug into this more last night. The, okay, two things. The stats, the stats keep getting closer and closer every time you check in on these guys. Cooper Flags kind of lead is getting less and less. He's at 20.4 points per game. Conniple 19.2 rebounds. Flag 6.6. Conniple 5.5. The assists 4.1 for Flag 3.5 for Conniple. Conniple also, I think he has the second best three point shooting percentage right now in the NBA.

11:13Again, how do they voters in the other cases? Yeah. How do they handle this case down the stretch of Cooper's on the bench? Conniple is contributing to a playoff team. We always have said wins don't matter when it comes to comes rookie of the year race. But if you're outward tanking versus what Conniple is doing, I think it gets interesting. And I think it's three to one or better. Uh, it's still a playoff. Well, two tiered, right? If he just doesn't, let's say Cooper Flag just starts missing games, you know, bevy of games. That's one level of it. But the level that you're suggesting would be a fascinating one would voters use their vote as a referendum. On how they feel about tanking teams. 15:15So I think on opens for most of them, it's the right time to get in. But there's still some of these injury questions, right? Right. That you, you kind of want to be more sure of. So like, sure enough, I was sitting there. It was eight and a half. Philly's eight and a half comes down on my phone right away. That Ciacom's questionable now for today. As soon as I saw that, I got the bed in right then. That's why I just rushed to cobble those three legs together. Yeah. I was going to say they got fined. They don't care. They don't care. Are these girls? Are these ladies going to mess this up? I mean, I think the key piece of length. You and I have been wondering about this for months now. Right? Is this really where we're headed? And just seeing whether it's true or not. Like you said, they could redraw the line in the sand. But like seeing the league say, this is the deadline date before it affects scheduled games. Like we're already at that point. It's bad, man. It's real bad. And then the fight that nobody wanted to see again. But apparently it's going to happen.

And of course, we had to settle it three on three. Something we talked about a lot going into the tournament. As a possibility, sure enough, it does play out that way. But congrats to you guys, congrats to all the Americans out there. It was long overdue. We can nitpick this specific game or you could talk about it being a three on three goal. The US was totally due for winning a big tournament like this. The hockey program has been strong for years. Going back 20, 30 years now at this point. They deserve to eventually have their moment. I don't want to nitpick it, but I do want I do want to get you on record. Because I said, yes, now it's like, okay, this is wonderful. USA, I'm so I was so happy. It was just a wonderful event for those of us. It was couched beautifully by NBC at the old chicken and Mike Toreco Kenny Albert. They were fantastic on the call here on NBC and in all of their differing ways and all their jobs.

26:25But E three on three. Can we change this for for the gold medal? Were you were you okay with it? No, no, and then none of us were going in. So we talked this isn't revisionist based on the result. We talked on our shows a lot. We got the format and I think you know, we saw the quarter finals were three on three. And okay, we'd go to a shootout technically if it did make it through 10 minutes of three on three. And then I think there was a lot of confusion event. We saw that the gold medal game was three on three as well. And I think a lot of people were asking each other really that they're actually going to do that. If it goes if if a gold medal game, but we're going to play three on three. Over time. And this was from both sides American and Canadian. So I don't think anybody liked it. But look, both teams knew what the format was going in. And both teams have a lot of skilled players. It's just unfortunate a game like that. That's so tight. It's one one. You know, the US scores a great goal early. A beautiful individual effort from Matt Boldy. I didn't think anybody was beaten Connor Hellbuck in that game. Kilmacar finds a way to do so. And it's just tight. And you think, man, I'd love to see these teams battle it out. They're trying to find that hard.

27:25Working goal. And ultimately it does end in three on three over time. So I think it takes a little bit of the of the juice set of it. A little bit of the steam. I think once the OT started, I kind of just thought, OK, I'm not watching the same game anymore. But still, like I said, all in all, the Americans deserve to have their moment. I wish it did come five on five. Because I think there are some people that maybe won't give them the credit that they deserve. But that was a heck of a team, guys. And I do believe that the US men's team. Was probably slightly the better team throughout the entirety of the tournament. Not in that specific game against Canada. But you could argue they were the best team start to finish in that tournament. And they they go home to deserve in gold medal winners. Very magnificent. J Con. Six gentlemen. The least surprising thing ever is Jake having a great attitude after this. But like inside, this is like the most depressed he's ever been. What if our old friend Annie McNeil was here? Jake a much better representative for Canada than Andy. Yes.

28:25Andy with the Canadian people. What an attitude. We love Andy too. But he would have been a little more upset about it. I just want to say on air when I said off air too, these guys were telling me though, you were killing the women's hockey unders over and over and over. So there's two things I'm going to really miss. And thanks for shouting that out. I feel two things I'm going to miss about the Olympics the most. Outside of the men's hockey tournament, which was fantastic. I mean, both Canada and the US, they could have lost to the quarter finals. That's how close this tournament was. US had to go to overtime with Sweden. Canada had to go to overtime with Czechia in the quarter. So I'm just glad that we got that game. And we got that memory. But it's the women's hockey unders, which were just a cash cow throughout the entirety of the tournament. It was incredible how easy some of these hit. And the Olympic by Athalon. Gill, I don't know if you were on when we talked about some of our favorite other sports at the Olympics. But I can't wait every four years for the by Athalon. And I hit some pretty nice winners capped off by a 12 to 1 in the last by Athalon event on Saturday with the French lady winning in the mass start. So I'm going to miss both of those. Yeah.

29:25Yeah. Oh, she oh, she and Michelle on I think it's her name. Gill, you're good at pronouncing random names, right? Because you've had a lot of tennis. So I think I was loving the by Athalon and the women's hockey unders. I'll miss those. Have you liked by Athalon enough to ever have gone out and like tried getting on cross country skis and then stopping full board, taking out a gun. Have you ever taken it that far when you're back? Honestly, I would love. I would love to try it. I can't guarantee I would be any good with the gun or the shooting part of it. I have cross country skied quite a bit growing up. We have some great trails where I grew up, which is a couple hours north of Toronto. So everybody had kind of tried it to an extent. But no, nothing close to what they can accomplish. And I don't think I'd trust myself with that with that gun. So I'll leave it to the experts. I'll tell you, I'll tell you, I think that's the one thing that might be worse than running when it comes to cardio. Cross country skingo. God looks exhausted. Oh, as it is and up hills are you getting up hills? Yeah. All right. So here's what I really want to know because the NHL resumes tomorrow. And Kelly was mentioning earlier, the US is still celebrating. Like as we speak.

30:25So team by team. Panthers had 10 players in the Olympics. Lanch wild lightning. Golden nights. Each had eight. Bruins devil star seven. Senators six. Panthers Kings blues. Conucks five. I think the flames and the black hawks had the few as they only had one player each. But then if you did it by team USA and team Canada. Obviously the two squads that went the deepest into the Olympic tournament. I did a little manual count. I did a little sort of counting here on my own. Golden nights. I believe had the most on both Canada and US five players total. I might be wrong about this. And the Lanch had four long story short. Is there a way to handicap against this now using this information? And if so, what is this? A one or two game thing like the only last for this week. Would you say? I would think the first few days back, Gil, right? We're getting back to it tomorrow Wednesday. So maybe you carry it into Friday, possibly Saturday and you see a little bit of a fatigue.

31:25They are coming back from Europe. So there's a, you know, time zone change and a bit of fatigue specifically for the guys that played Sunday, right? If you're looking at guys that played for Sweden or Czechia that got eliminated in the quarter finals. It's a bit of a different conversation. But for the American players, the Canadian players. And you said it though, these are. I have never seen a celebration like this outside of a Stanley Cup win. They're treating this like they won the Stanley Cup. They're going to clubs and they're celebrating around and they're spraying each other. I remember when Canada won in 2010. Sydney Crosby was playing for Pittsburgh two nights later. And producing. It was on the game ended on a Sunday. He was playing on a Tuesday. It was a quick turnaround. So this is a different celebration than I'm used to seeing to be completely honest. I didn't expect it to be like this. I thought they'd have their night in Italy and then they'd come back and they'd get ready for their NHL games. And there's a lot of questions guys over which of these players are going to be playing. You look at the captain of the US squad Austin Matthews. Beliefs have a huge back to back here. Wednesday in Tampa Thursday in Florida. So a huge back to back. If they have any hopes to make in a playoff push, they need him for these games.

32:26And there's a lot of question marks surrounding the availability of these American players starting tomorrow night. So yeah, definitely check on that. Cut us some slack, Jake. All right. It's only been 46 years. All right. This isn't an opportunity we get very often. All right. Sorry. And I love a good party. I love a good party. I would never knock any of these guys for celebrating. I think I just in my mind, I pictured it a lot different just based on I thought it would be, you know, one night celebration. Go nuts. Go crazy. You deserve to celebrate after what you put into it. But I'm a little surprised. There's still partying in Miami when there's hockey games to their club teams need them in a day. So we'll see what happens. It's going to be an interesting storyline to follow. I might even jump as a guy who loves tanking. I might even I might even jump in some hockey for some of these angles on playing teams that won't have some of these players. We'll see. I don't mind the man. The mammoth is a good look tomorrow, guys. Utah mammoth at home, underdogs to the Colorado avalanche. The abs had a ton of players. Yeah. Specifically in that game, Kilmacard, Devon Taves, who were the top pairing for Canada.

33:26They played both over 25 minutes in that hockey game. They were used heavily Nathan McKinnon as well. Obviously used heavily for it for the Canadian side. So I think that would be one that maybe jumps out to me right away where I could see Utah catching a bit of a sleepy abs team with their top players. Not the Kings over the nights. Kings at home. Slight favorite. No. I don't mind that one as well. Now the Kings lost a key player in Kevin Fiala. Yeah. An unfortunate injury for Switzerland in the tournament. But they do get our Temi Panerang. We get to see the debut of the breadman who they traded for. And I think a lot of hockey fans are excited to see how he fits in with the Kings tomorrow. The breadman, Kelly. Doug. There you go. Jake. It's like it's okay. At least it's more games than yesterday with only nine. But it's not like there's any great matchups. I am curious how you feel about the two games we saw last night. North Carolina holds on to be Louisville. Trimble was awesome in that game. And the bigger one. And this is where I really want to seize on is obviously Kansas. Winning their 41st in a row on a Monday night at Volg Allen.

37:37Everybody throwing around that stat. But what I really want to focus on is the fact that Houston. Six teams show up in my championship formula. We did it yesterday, tried and true college basketball championship formula, which is produced the champion in almost every single year over the last three and a half decades or so. Houston was one of those six teams. But even when they showed up yesterday, as before the game, I said, that's the one that people are going to have the most problem with. There it is. Michigan, Arizona, Duke Iowa State, Houston and Florida. That was before last night's game. How do you feel about the Cougars now? Yeah, I'd still little, I think kind of confident in them. I know it's, it's not been pretty the last seven days for them. Two straight big Monday losses on the road. And then going down to a short handed Arizona at home. I think the questions about the offense are fair. The fact that they never get to the free throw line. And they take really long to constantly. And it's not quite offset by the elite offensive rebounding that they usually have.

38:37You know, they're like top 20 in that rather than top five, like they are typically. But I still buy the defense, the talent. I think Calvin Samson is going to get the house in order. He was experimenting with lineups a lot last night. They played some chase McCarty at the four, given Mercy Miller a little bit more run. I think he's just especially with that grueling three game stretch. Not looking to, I mean, obviously they wanted to win. But he's still trying to figure out like maybe the right exact combination with them. I'm not sure they can win six games in March. If they have to be like a Michigan and a Duke at the final four. But I still think this team can go to the final four. I feel pretty good about it. Just based on the defense, having a star in Kingston Flamings that may or may not be the best player that Samson's ever had. And they just need better shooting nights from Flamings and Sharp. Both of those guys were so cold last night. That was, that was a real problem for them. You said it though in there, right? To win the tournament, to win March madness, you have to go six games. And they had a stretch last night. I know you're not likely to necessarily have this kind of drought. But, but can Houston, as currently constituted, I'm sort of saying this out loud.

39:39I'm sort of answering my own question. You know, they had a 16 minute stretch last night where they scored 14 points, I believe. And they just don't feel like a team that can get through six game gauntlet. Not that the first two are gauntlet, but you get it. Right? That can get all the way to the promised land. Now, I'll just go to Kansas for a second because those listening are going to ask about them too. You don't get to play all six Monday nights at Fogg Allen, apparently in March madness. I'm being told in my air. So I, are they even a thing to you? Yeah, the Houston offensive droughts are real. They don't have a front court scoring threat the same way they used to with jug. J1 Roberts or Josh Carlton back in the day and not having that. I think is what creates those droughts. They're two jump shot reliant. So despite having a super talented back court, they can go on those droughts. Kansas, yeah, I'm not buying as a title contender either. I'll say final four. They did look a little more in sync with Peterson last night, even though he didn't play that well. I thought there was a little bit more of a flow offensively, particularly in the second half.

40:39Defensively, that team is elite, especially if they get Peterson dialed in. Because like if he's out there, they're huge on the perimeter. They're switchable one through four. Badunga is everywhere. I mean, you can probably say switchable one through five with the way he moves around his timing blocking shots. Their front court defense is for real watching what they did to Arizona, what they did to Houston really anywhere on the court last night. I buy the defense. I just think they're going to have some offensive droughts that are a little too much to overcome. Maybe maybe a kind of Michigan state in that way, where I don't quite buy the offense to be a title contender, but they could get to the final four if they get the right draw. Before we get to your three picks, let me ask you this way. So the six teams that came up were Michigan, Arizona, Duke, Houston, Florida and Iowa state. If I told you that the eventual national champion comes from outside of that group, let's say together on three. The answer will be three, two, one, Yukon. Yukon. Yeah. I said Yukon. Oh, yeah.

41:39I figured that's where you had to be going. Yeah. Yeah. I would tend to agree. I just think that the ceiling is really high. It feels a little, it's not the same, but it feels a little like 2023. When they struggled in league play, they lost six of eight in Big East play that year. But they covered every single game in the non-conference, both before conference play and in the NCAA tournament when every game by double digits. It's not that level of team. It's not that level of talent. I'm not going to go crazy and say that. But I think the familiarity that a lot of the Big East teams have with them, how they play the sets they run. It's a better team in the non-con when teams aren't as used to playing their offensive execution. And perhaps you get a little less physicality allowed in the defensive end on the NCAA tournament. So perhaps teams will not be quite as ready for you come there. All right. The floor is yours. What do you got tonight? Well, we're going to double down on Trojans here. We're going to start with Troy minus 11. Let me pull up the rotation number because I wouldn't dare not bring that 636, Troy minus 11. As the bounce back spot for them struggled over the weekend.

42:42Couldn't quite get it done against South Alabama, kind of an ugly offense performance. And I think Louisiana is a good get right team here. They thrashed them in the first meeting. And they're just the better more skilled team here. Louisiana's had a decent run through league play with they've got a Houston assistant. Quant is white running the show there. Former Houston assistant, but just not fully buying them. So then the other one would be USC. I can pivot to them. They are 669 on the betting board plus seven and a half. I think some UCLA money came in as I was sending these over these these bets over. But UCLA off that overtime win, very dramatic game. They got to get up and down the court a little more with Illinois. I think USC. This is like heavy by low sell high here. But USC got Chad Baker, Missouri back last game. I think you see a better performance from freshman Elijah arenas who had a few good ones. And then has sank back down into kind of a void of late.

43:42And that makes sense. He's not in full game shape after missing most of the season. Seven and a half crosstown rivalry that game there. No travel. I'm buying the bounce back from USC after they kind of, you know, really hurt their tournament chances against Oregon over the weekend. I'll take them plus seven and a half as a home dog. And then lastly. Six five seven San Jose State minus seven Spartans. This one is mostly a fate of Air Force who is one in 13 against the spread since the turn of the calendar. They've been an easy fade for me in league play. San Jose States, not the caliber of Mountain West team. I want to fade them with. And they've definitely got some injury issues. They've been hurt all year. But man, Air Force has just been really, really bad. You can also look at the over here because 13 of Air Force's 16 games have gone over the total in league play. So I think that might be worth a look too. I think you get up and down and their defense has been abysmal. But I will lay the seven there with San Jose State on the road. There it is. A couple of Trojans and then Spartans of San Jose State lay in the wood against Air Force.

44:45You and the other two weavers Kai and Matt going to be in Vegas for the conference tournaments this year. Only I'm on there for the first round of the NCAA tournament. But only me. Kai Matt are taking a year off. It's sad. Wow. End of an era. Interesting. I know. I was going to see you guys can't party anymore, but you just work. Hopefully we'll see you Jim.
