My dad's not here right now. He's still at work. So I'm gonna bless him. Mike's show and the bulldog. I'm gonna see if there's a clean version so that my parents and the people at my school will not get met at me. We've got the spritzer filled with water, just in case if stock gets too fire. I'm gonna set up the speaker and I'm gonna listen to Mike's show and the bulldog. I think this is the best. Mike's show. Feature that I've heard in a long time. I think his flow is really good on it and I like his aggressiveness on it and the bulldog. But not enough effort in it. I think overall his flow was good but I don't like that mumbourapping. That was my review of Mike's show and the bulldog. I didn't need the spritzer. It wasn't fire enough. No spritzer, P.U. No spritzer. Hi there, happy Friday. Someone would call it fantasy Friday. We've never really exactly branded it officially but check please.

So I assume you're not in tomorrow's draft. You assume correctly. Okay. And did fill and believe me I didn't I didn't know you did not divulge to me that this was a golf outing, a fantasy outing in the clothes of a golf out. I didn't realize that until I asked you about hey you want to do the old thing we used to do when we drive to Rochester for training camp is you're on Grand Island. I'm in North Buffalo. Silly for one of us to go to the other. Let's just meet at the 90 at transit and leave a car and we'll drive and you said well you know I got to be there at X time or whatever. There's a fantasy job. I go Jesus. You know that? No I had no idea. Adam Krautwurst and Jared Smola. They don't mean anything to you. I know that I didn't sound an alarm. No I just figured that maybe they'd want to just golf. I don't know like a normal person. I don't know. Oh well. Okay. I didn't realize I think they do want to play golf. It doesn't you know it's not going to matter to me.

I'm not we're not driving together. I don't I don't need I don't know how long the draft would it would take. So I don't need that much time to warm up. There isn't really anything to worry about. The draft is at 10. T times 1130. There might be a slight overlap. The draft might bleed into like the first hole. We've been saying we think we might be on the tee figuring out which kicker we want. All right. But not nothing more serious. I'm happy to help. I don't think we're warming up. I have no. Well I'm going to dominate you guys then. Well that's I'm planning to get to get there in time to have a good. A hearty warm up. I very rarely get that range and putting green. Yeah. Right there for you. Adam is providing it. All right. And then you jump in the cart with him and get to know him. Finally you're going to meet. Yeah. I'm excited. Yeah. I am excited. It ends the new a new place. So a new experience and you and I don't get to do social things that often.

No, it's been 10 days. So yeah. But that was the first thing and it feels like quite some time. So anyway, I'm excited. I'm very excited about that. Like the highlight. It's one of many highlights of the holiday weekend for me. That's what I'm going to go really. I'm going to go with many highlights. I have many highlights. You have a big weekend. I have a big weekend. Interesting. Yes. Well I've got this golf outing Saturday. That Saturday. Sunday with the holiday Monday, my friends, Uncle Men's Remedy are playing at the legendary Zorvalley tavern in the afternoon. And we have been meaning to get to that. I don't know. They've had it scheduled other years and stuff has come up and they had to cancel it the last minute. But I'm hoping it all goes off. We're planning to go out for that. And then Monday, we're taping another episode of the now highly acclaimed. No, that's not right. Some people have seen our golf show, Buffalo Linc's Golf, which I've been tweeting about.

We're taping another episode. We got another one that just dropped yesterday with Melissa Holmes and her 12 year old son who is really good at golf. So good that we played a scramble instead of like playing in a match because we figured we'd all get killed by this 12 year old kid. Because we started a golf show, but we're not very good golfers. But he is the Elliott. Okay. So anyway, that's it. I got big, important fun stuff every day. Wow. Can I even dinner with the mighty John Gale? Wow. It's all happening. When are you going to find time to get those last minute division winner Parlaison? You're going to have time for that? I mean, search Wednesday. There's this flag. You know, Wednesday, night after the show. I was like a reasonable time to do. I have 16. Yeah, I just got the two. 10 with family members, six of my own, all like 10 bucks, maybe even less. I think they're all 10 bucks. And I've been, I don't know. We'll talk to Sam a little bit.

Maybe this isn't even worthy of asking him, but I wonder what like the cash out algorithm looks like, you know, like just sort of whenever it changes, I think to myself, well, what change? Like what caused that? Right. But I've been waiting for one. So they're all $10 bets. I've been waiting for just one of them for some reason. It's not going to happen. I think we would make logical sense. One of them for some reason to offer me a plus money cash out. We're like $10 and eight cents. It's never going to happen. I'm not an eight league thing. Nothing really that, yeah. I mean, what would have to happen for a team that we might have picked in one of these to shoot up that list? What every other team's quarterback gets hurt in that division? Right. If you have one with the Steelers, which would have been a healthy price, I do. I think I might have one with you. You've got one with it sounds like maybe every team. Almost. But if something happened to Lamar Jackson and to Joe Burrow, I don't know that you get

to plus money, but you might be able to just even get your money out, which I, you know, without losing anything, which I don't think I haven't looked at mine in ages. It's my app freezes every time I go in there. I don't know why. Anyway, I think you'd need something catastrophic that would, you know, paint the change of the Steelers odds dramatically. Right. Like you'd have to have a few things happen. And I'm not expecting anybody to go north of $10 on a $10 bet, but I just sort of wish when I look at it. I found a Pittsburgh one. Ready? Sure. All right. I'll go west to east Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Denver. All right. Is that insane so far? No. No. It's not insane. Pittsburgh is defending champion. Denver's defending champion. Indianapolis was one of the best teams in the league for nine games last year. All right. Dallas. Okay. Love Dallas. Minnesota.

Not insane. Not insane, but now we're getting really thin here. Tampa. It's a very tough division, but still they, if Murray hits that, they could be good. Tampa is probably the favorite in the NFC South and the Rams. Yeah. That's not that nutty. Buffalo, Pittsburgh. Indianapolis, Denver, Dallas, Minnesota, Tampa Bay, LA. $10 pays $68,000. $182,000, $14.00 and five cents. Right? This is why we run all those laps. That is why we lift all those laps. That is tasty. $10, this is a group one. So I would, I would only get 10% of that. Okay. You'll still never see me again, but you know, you'll never see Joey again, I bet. He takes another 10% of that before taxes. $10 pays $182,000, $14.00 and five cents. I don't know how we break up those at five cents among 10 people. So what's the cash out? $4.39. They're not even offering me half of what they had cost.

What, why not? What happened? Here's another one. This is even better. I mean, I'm saying all this. I know that I'm not going to make money on the cash out. Right. I'm not even looking, it's a group effort. Like I'm not even quote effort. I'm not even looking to do it. I just kind of want to see it. Eight teams. Miami. Okay. Well, that's how that starts. Right. Miami Baltimore Houston, Kansas City. Three favorites on the dolphins. Washington, Chicago, Tampa, LA. $10. It's got to be like 400 grand more. $5.5 million, $528,843. The reason I said that is because I don't look, I don't, it's not something I check in on a lot. And I have not been super active at all. I'm very, very, very hit and miss on the gambling apps lately. I'm sure that'll change once football gets rolling. But the big, I have, I open it up like, oh, what's this one

that I have here? Well, that's really big. New England. Pittsburgh, Jacksonville, Denver. Love it. Okay. New England, but anyway, Washington, Green Bay, Carolina, depending champ and San Francisco. That is, that is 10 to pay 472. 472,000. 472,000. Who's your biggest problem? I'm not even sure. I don't know. Carolina feels the hardest for me to see, but the division is full of teams that I think, no matter who you said, Tampa's the favorite, but I don't know, how good are they? You know, they're nine or 10 wins probably. So if the whole division is kind of like that, which is what happened last year when Carolina won it, okay, maybe I'm okay there. Washington, I don't love, but who knows, they were really good two years from now. Yeah. So I like anything I have right now,

any action I have right now on Dallas or Washington. I can't really get to the giants, but I like the other two. Yeah, I just a bet against the Eagles. And if the Eagles aren't great, then somebody else wins it. And why wouldn't it, why couldn't it be either of those teams? So I like that. But I'm not taking the 88 cents being offered on this Miami one. I'm getting sick. I'm gonna say hard no I'm at. Yeah, I got a $1.15 on the $4.72 grand one. What is going on there? I have another one that is way more modest. If Josh Allen and Drake May went to a PR event tonight and just like banged into each other, somebody's coming around the corner, other guys and seeing them, they bang into each other, they both go down, they both have like season against concussion. Then do we get at least halfway there on Miami? I mean, Paris the thought, but anyway. But the 10, I have the same sort of thing,

another eight, eight, Lager, and it's, you know, the sketchiest pick in that is probably New Orleans. I like that, but somebody's got to win that. The others are all. Let's hear it. Okay, it's Bill's Bengals, Jacksonville, Denver. Very reasonable. Eagles, Lions, Saints, Seahawks, like six favorites. Right, basically. That's $10 to win 38 grand. Cheap, right? The cash out on that is $689. $689. I want to, just on principle, I might want to cash out for this $0.88 and then tell everybody in my family, all nine of their people that they have $0.8 coming. Right. It would be so happy that you're in Miami. I might even cook out. I might even just float the other .02 cents or whatever it is. Give them $0.09 each. I got to find some pennies. They don't make them anymore. Give them nine cents. Guys, I decided Miami wasn't going to make it. So we're out on this one. Here's a little bit. So you feel better about it all.

Here's a little bit of money. Nine cents. Speaking of pennies, did you see the bag of penny wrappers that was out in the bistro area, the kitchen area? No. Last Friday. Why was there a bad time? I don't know. I don't know. But last Friday, it wasn't there when I walked in and then at some point during the show, you were off. I walked out there and it was a bag that was propped up on that table that looked like it could be, cheesets, chips, pretzels, some sort of snack can be like, immediately you know if you work in an office where the common area, if there's like food up for grabs, like there's a certain look to it from a distance. You're like, oh, look at that. I wonder what that penny wrappers, was a bag of like 100 penny coin wrappers. Yeah. Like, what is that doing here and why is it posing as Doritos? This is not okay. I got excited for a moment.

That's not gonna eat a whole bag of Doritos. Like, ah, I have a Dorito on my way by. No, maybe it's a bag of little bags of chips. Like the fun size. Right, yeah, great. Even better. But no, it was penny, it was, it was, are those collectibles? I don't know. Penny wrappers. It's gone, somebody took it. I think or disposed of it. I don't know, but it's not out there anymore. Anyway, sorry, a little sidebar on coins. Now, this one cash out option of mine just flashed. But what? I'm not sure it changed, it just flashed. Just went away and then it came back. Oh, well, this is one for you. They're trying to get your attention. They want you to take that eight cents. I think, they, they, they, I think, I have their attention. They're worried about you right now. They don't want you to win that bet. I mean, we're on serious now. I think they're listening to us and we're trying to hash this out and they might, they might be making changes as they hear us. Talk about this because we're very influential. This one I'm going to need your, I'm going to like,

I would like your support on this one. Okay. Cincinnati. Love Cincinnati. New England. Okay. L.A. Chargers. Not crazy. Going to skip one for the moment. Philadelphia, Chicago, Carolina, San Francisco. It's very similar to the one you talk about. Yeah. Tennessee. Yeah, I knew there was going to be Tennessee. Yeah, Tennessee. When you skipped one, I knew it was going to happen. I mean, realistically, I mean, Tennessee is that, is that still a division? Like it was when Houston got there the first time or anybody to win. I think Jacksonville and Houston have elevated. I thought you were a Robert Salagui. I think he'll do a good job. I like Debal with my boy, Cam Ward. Oh, but wow. I think Jacksonville and Houston, the idea of the ASC South being so weak that one of those teams could get the one seat. I mean, it could still happen. I think both Houston and Jacksonville are level of contender enough to, you know, perhaps get, I mean,

Jacksonville one 13 games last year. So, Houston one 12. Right. So either one of those teams could do it. But the fact that you've got two, it's a little like, it's very much like the bills in New England now to me. I think that's, it's too strong. I think it's, it'd be too hard for Tennessee to find their way. Because to me, if they were going to do it, they need to do it like Caroline did it last year. You know, eight, nine, nine, and eight, something like that. Everybody's down. And I think Houston and Jacksonville, maybe they're only one of those there that look like a 12 or 13 win team, then I think I could get to Tennessee sooner. Okay. Because only one team needs to like have something go off the rails and then maybe you got to look at it. But I think the two of them make it hard for me to see. Here's my one that pays the least $22,000 for 10 bucks. I think this is also a group one. Mm-hmm. Buffalo, Cincinnati, Houston, Kansas City,

Dallas Green Bay, New Orleans LA, is it so impossible that one of these couldn't actually make it? Yeah, I know they're, I know the math to an extent anyway. But really, like these are such sucker bets. But man, I love doing them every year. I really do. It's the best I love doing them every year. Are they all doing? I don't think I'm gonna pour. Doesn't does somebody win? I don't think I'm gonna pour probably. Yeah. What last year would have been insane if you got that last year. Because every AFC division turned over. So defending champions last year were Buffalo, Houston, Baltimore, or Kansas City. None of them won. Right. New England, Denver, Jacksonville, Pittsburgh. I mean, it's tough to talk about in hindsight because we saw it happen. But would that have seemed insane? New England was not insane to me. They were gonna be good, I thought. And that's the kind of team I like for these is that I don't think they were

slept on, but okay, well, the bills don't have to buy law win the division every single year. They won five in a row. New England, Denver, any slippage from Kansas City, it's Sean Peyton, right? I mean, maybe. And then Pittsburgh, because they're always right there. Right. And Jacksonville could have been anybody. Like that's, they did, they did have to be the 12 and 5 Houston team. But still, like that doesn't seem insane. Philadelphia would have been the favorite. Uh, then Chicago Carolina Seattle. Seattle was nobody's choice. No. They probably were five to one at least in the NFC West with the Rams and Niners there. They were nobody was on them. I, yeah, I thought I thought the, I thought their line wouldn't be able to protect Arnold and that he was going to die. Just start throwing the ball like up for grabs. Chicago was conceivable. Yeah, with the new coach and Williams promising all the talent that he, yep, seems to possess. Yeah. And Carolina, that could have been anybody. Right.

That division is Seattle was the one of those teams. Seattle was the one last year that would have made it the toughest to win these. I don't even, I'd love to win. I just want to get close enough so that I can like, you get three games away and you have, say you have some combination last year, but it's not Seattle. It's the Rams. They would have been the favorite. You have something like that. And then you can, hedge it. You can move in on Seattle. Or so, you know, in some kind of situation like that where you're going to win something, even if you don't win the huge payout, the $500,000 and $5 cents. I might need one of those penny rollers for the $5 cents. That's a five cents. Yeah. All right. Exciting. How do you feel about Detroit as the bill's first home opponent? Is it reach you on some sort of level, like historically or anything other than like, it's a good game. It's a good game. The last time these two teams met, it was a great game.

I'm not here to say you're like, game of the year or anything, but it was, you know, another 40, you know, both teams were in the 40s. So wild game. Those are pretty rare in the NFL. It's rare to get two teams in the 30s in the NFL, not alone the 40s. So, but now, historical, no, you know, I think it's daunting for sure. You know, the whole schedule is really tough. But the beginning of it, they really better be buttoned up. Because that's a, I mean, that's a serious situation now. I think Detroit, I think they're probably, I mean, whatever, every team is, you know, thinking that that is a contender who's going to want to hit the ground running and go hard, but they had such a bad year last year that, I don't know, they could just come out really firing to me Detroit. But they could be a team that gets off to a really hot start in league this year. They start with the Saints. Yeah, it's pretty nice before they come here. Yeah. I think it's at New Orleans.

Uh, no, it's home. They, they, they host the Saints in week one and then at the bells, then the jets and Panthers and the Cardinals. Wow. Look at Detroit Detroit snack. They're, they're going to maybe say no to four and one. Maybe would you say yes to three and two? That Houston Detroit Chargers Patriots at the Rams. Would you take three and two? I feel like I almost have to. It's such a, like four and one. It's great. There it would be a tremendous job. Everybody would take four. Yeah. Yeah. Right. So three and two. I think I would. I think I would. I think it is. There are other hard games on the schedule. But that block of five to start to me. I think I mean, I'm going to look again at the, at the, at the middle part here. Casey Miami Green Bay Chicago Denver.

That's five games starting right around Thanksgiving running almost, you know, right up to what Christmas day they playing Denver literally is Thanksgiving Christmas. Yeah. That is. That is also a brutal five game stretch. So that's thinking like three and two fine. It softens up and there's not another stretch like that. But I don't know, maybe those two stretches of the season get me three and two in both of them. I'm six and four in my hardest games. And you know, let me find my way to five more out of the other, out of the other bunch. You have two blocks of dolphins and jets. One in the middle, one at the end. And then the other three are consecutive raiders, ravens, Vikings. Right. That, that, that jet dolphin block sandwiches that five week stretch from Thanksgiving to Christmas that we just talked about. They play the jets in Miami and then the bread. Then the, you're right. Then the chief's Patriots, Packers, Bears, Broncos and then Miami in New York again.

Yeah. Wow. Sam Paniatovich Fox Chicago coming up next. We'll also talk to Jim Coventry, his friend of mine from Rotawire. Rotawire is going to be represented on our show Fridays throughout the football season. Although I don't know that Jim has ever been on with us. He's excited. So am I. Good. Gord Stellak. Also next hour, we're on serious XM channel 175 around the serious XM app. Gord is with the NHL channel on serious. And he's a well-known name around hockey for decades now. He leaves GM for a minute. That's right. As a young guy, it might have been one of the youngest GM's ever in his history of sports. Right? Yeah. I think that would he know if we ask him? Would he know if he was the youngest? If he's the record host of the league. I don't know. He should. Mike Schoep in the bulldog back with Sammy P. after this on WGR. He's down to this.

Clean. Boom! Boom! Boom! Come around the runs! Oh my goodness! Are you following Ryan Paganette yet? Oh yeah. No, right after he's like they blew that. Right after you had him on the show, I started following him. Yeah. They ran their plays too quickly when they had the ball. Yeah. They had a lot more clock and given themselves a much better chance of winning. But they didn't know that. But they, they, they, they, they missed a kick anyway, right? Like what just happened there? What did we just listen to? The possession before the possession before that, maybe? Oh, I see. I didn't watch it. Okay. All right. With us now on the, I just, I got the impression they lost on a missed field goal and I'm not just what the, but maybe they got whatever. All right. There's something there. I'm getting on that. Sam will know. With us now on the Western hotline is Sam Penny out of it. You know his work from Fox Chicago.

Bet sweats, chicken dinner, bars maybe. You've seen Sam. He's been with us a long time. WGR. We'll be like right after those other times. We gotta, we gotta, we gotta get in your Twitter bio, Sam. That's what, that's what we need. Regular contributor. Yeah. What do you think of that? Would you consider doing that? I could be convinced. Yes. What's in it for me though? No. I don't know. Obviously. People will ask you, what does that mean? You know guy go on with those guys once a week for 10 minutes or 20. You know Sam, or minimize your impact. Sam, I ask this as a, if I need to say this as a compliment to you. Might you have been invested last night in Buffalo Albany? No. The only that I made last night was Colorado plus six of the half. I did not take, by the way, I did not take UMass plus 29 against Rutgers. I thought about that would have been Rutgers pays them a million and a half and then they come in and whoop and then did you guys see after the game Rutgers loses is like a 29 point

favorite and then they do a fireworks show after the game. Oh, I love that. Gotta do it. I love. We said we would. I love that Rutgers is back. There was a Friday night last football season where I, I will, this is changing because my wife's schedule changed, but like oftentimes I'd get out of here on a Friday and go to the bar and just have a couple of beers and you know wait for some people I know to get there and sort of hang out and but I'm there early and I'm looking at my phone. I'm texting with Sam and this is not to call you out. You're like Rutgers get on Rutgers with me or something I did. Not last night. No, not last night. Not last night. But it totally went sideways. I don't remember what happened, but it was not it ended up not being a good bit. I just saw the only thing I saw from that game was the handshake and it's like, oh, right. Greg Siano. Yes, this is great watching him lose. Yes. I love watching him. Certain coaches. You just love to watch him lose. It's the number one. I remember that game is hating the coaches. Bulldog that was an Iowa Rutgers game.

I'll never forget that. And that was funny because you know, last year and we'll get into a couple of bets. I like obviously for this weekend. I think we had a pretty good run last year. I would usually just give you guys like one bet. And I think at the time we were like six and two or five and two. And you know, might have been feeling a little confident in Texas Bulldog a little extra like I really like Rutgers tonight. You know, I was feeling it. Yeah. And then like Bulldog will never text after a win or a loss. But that one I feel like I pushed the envelope a little far. And yeah, Iowa crack Rutgers. But there was like a pick six in the game. Yeah. You hate when that happens. I think it went sideways almost right away. I feel like maybe the pick six was right away. I was just like, what are we doing here? What are we doing here? Hey, listen to teasing you all in good fun. You gave our audience last week North Carolina. Yeah, that was nice. I didn't think they were going to win the game. But look, this is the lesson early in these seasons. You know, a lot of teams are priced in Vegas on what they did last season.

And TCU's offense was really good last year. The problem is their quarterback is gone. He transferred to Indiana, Joshua, versus Ignatius, pulled them away. And they went TCU thought that they could just go into Harvard and transfer their quarterback in. And it's not the same thing. Right. So I don't know if you guys watched that. It was a total rock fight, which is exactly what Bella check wants to do. The final score was like 15 to 13 or something like that. And I remember we talked about that on Friday. When ironically enough, I was at a bar this time around. And I said, nine is too many. Now, I didn't think they would win. Right. A lot of these big numbers, you know, in week number one, it's not really a true testament of what these teams are. It's more what they were. And you can find some really nice numbers in week one and even in a week two. Do you think that translates to the NFL or is there just too much information, too much stability relative to college football? Like, I've got maybe you do two survivor pools. And yesterday, Bulldog and I were talking about the dolphins, Raiders game.

Like I just can't one H and run one good pass and Miami wins. Like it's just, I mean, there are too many games that are more than like three and a half on on Sunday week one next week. But do you think is it is the same principle applied to the pros? It's a good question. The problem is the rosters are so much smaller and there's just really not that much turnover. Now, you know, if a star defensive end isn't there anymore, that's a big deal. Half tackles worth a ton. And obviously, if you're going to a new quarterback, that changes a ton, especially if the quarterback is a rookie. You know, like when the Raiders go to Fernando, Mendoza, now you have a rookie quarterback, a hobbled running back and a terrible offensive line. Like that's not great, but also like it wasn't great last year. So you don't really, you don't see a lot of changes. Like the biggest example in recent memory is when Brady goes to the box. You know, that was a team that was like 80 to one to win the Super Bowl. And then Brady goes there and oh my god, another 10 to one. You know, like that's a drastic change. But you don't tend to see it that much in the NFL year to year.

In college though, within IEL, guys, I mean, you know, some of these teams, I was doing a preview the other day of a Memphis game. Memphis has 75 new players this year. Like what? Wow, it's even possible. Wow. You know, there's 90 guys on a team and 75 other guys are new. So in college, like I said, I think it's very difficult for these bookmakers to go year to year because it used to be linear. You know, a quarterback would go there. He'd say a couple of years. He'd start as a junior and a senior and then he'd maybe go to the NFL. Now you got a quarterback who could be on three teams in three years. It's just crazy. Speaking of Brady, I was already, you know, planning to mention this, but I love that point about the unknown quarterback. Like we'll see if Mendoza, whenever it happens, when Mendoza walk on the field and make a huge difference, Brady, I was in Las Vegas for his first start in 2001. And they were O and two, New England. They had paid manning in the Colts and nobody liked them. Like there was just no reason to think that that was going to be an upgrade from Blitz-O.

And they blew out the Colts. They won by like 30 points his first game. Like, okay, this one maybe we could have known this. Right. Maybe we could have known this. Looking back, maybe. Wow, okay. They knew what they were doing there. Yeah, and I wonder how the lines moved after that. Like right away, I wonder if he just got like that kind of respect or not, but they won the Super Bowl that year. So hopefully you came around to that. It probably took a while though, because I feel like, I don't know what betting lines were doing at that time. But I know how it sounded on the radio. And it was like waiting for him to turn into a pumpkin for maybe years. Even that whole year. Like it was into the next year or maybe the year after. There's a playoff game in Pittsburgh, I remember him throwing it all over them and going like they cheated. Like, okay, I don't think this is just like he's got a great coach. I think maybe this guy's pretty good. Yeah. How far do you go back Sam? That's 2001. You probably remember that. You're old enough to remember that stuff. I actually, let's see, in that Super Bowl, I'm not going with Super Bowl numbers,

but I know it was the 2001 season, because they had like the 9-11, you know, remembrance before the game. It was a Patriots and the Rams. And that I was in seventh grade. And I bet my buddy, because I found out that the point spread was 14, like the Rams were a 14 point favorite in that game. And I told my fellow seventh grade friend that I will take the points and didn't need them, because they wanted the game outright. But that was, guys, that's one of the biggest upsets in the history of the NFL playoffs. The Patriots were a 14 point dog in that game and won it outright. Listen, this is embarrassing. I really didn't understand how point spreads worked until I started working with Mike. Oh boy. Look, like in 2003, you're in seventh grade and go and give me the points. Yeah, I love it. It's like, what? You were born to do what you do. Sam, thank you, Mike. Is there anything, what jumps out at you, college? Is there a better, is there a better schedule this week? I mean, there's more games, obviously.

So, but what stands out? Who do you like? Not so much one of the best matchups, but like, what do you like betting was? In week one, which is weird, because we just played a whole weekend of games, right? Like, this is week one now. I'll never understand that. But the two that I really like, our number one is Houston. Houston's playing Oregon State. And crazyly enough, Houston's a 20 and a half point favorit. But Houston is one of 12 teams in the country that brings back the following four things. Starting head coach, you're not starting head coach. Starting quarterback, head coach, OCDC. Only 12 teams do that. And Houston's one of them. So that's a big deal in this landscape of college football. I also talked to a former bookmaker who now bets professionally. And he said his number on the game is 27. So when he said that, I had already liked Houston. I made a nice bet on Houston minus 20 and a half. And then the second game, there's a weather game. There's a weather game in Hawaii, guys. I was reading a bunch of reports this morning about this hurricane Lowell.

And you hate to handicap hurricanes. But at the end of the day, this number was 58 and a half, two days ago. Oh, my God. On Bearbats, I gave it out at 57. And now it's down to 56. If we see footage of this stadium tomorrow, and the wind is ripping through, and the flags are just going crazy, and there's a monsoon, I mean, how much lower could it go? 53, 52 and a half. So I would bet this right now, because this is how it works. People will flip on the game and see the pregame and see the storms and go, oh, I like the under. But this could move three more points. So I like Houston minus 20 and a half. And the UNLV Hawaii game under 56 and a half right now. UNLV Hawaii, we are so back. Sam Panty out of it with us. All the way back. I texted Sam the other day about a possible offensive player of the year idea in the NFL, Jameson Williams of the Lions. But what I don't, I mean, it's a big long shot bet.

What I don't like about it, of course, is like there are two other, if not three, really good offensive players, weapons on the Lions. Like he would have to come in way above St. Brown and Gibbs, I think, to win. But you said you were open to it, right? I'm open to anything at the right price. I mean, do I think it's going to happen? No. I'm going to throw the amount out there and what the payout would be. And it's a different conversation. Like I don't hate anybody taking a shot, you know, betting a little to win a lot. Like that's where I live. I look at it like, I'm not answering the question the way you asked it. But like on the bears, for example, like they've got a lot of really good players. And the one that Ben Johnson likes the most is Luther Burton. He has been gushing about this kid all off season. And through training camp and heading into the regular season, that guy is 100 to one right now. And it's like, okay, like if Ben really likes him and keeps going out of his way to say

that Luther Burton is going to be that guy this year, maybe two plus two is four. But then you look around that bears roster and Kayla is obviously really, really good. And they have a couple other weapons and they like Colson Lovelin a lot. So you know, Burton's got the upside. But if the coach is saying all the right things and the player has the pedigree and the talent, and then you look at the 100 to one, you're like, all right, you might not be the best player. But there's a path here. So whether it's Samus and Williams or whether it's Matthew Golden with the Packers or Luther Burton with the bears, like there are some really good players. It's some really big prices. No doubt Williams is 200 to one. And the burden example, Burton does not have that sort of, you know, clutter, sort of speak in his way. You mentioned a, you know, Lovelin, but Swift is hurting now maybe two, right? Sam, what's the latest on Swift? He had cramps. He had cramps yesterday. Monunga is banged up though. I've always been in the Dune's day guy personally. I think he's really, really good. I think he gets a lot of flack for no reason. But look, I mean, the reality is you're going to have to outlast a lot of really good players.

I mean, Jameer Gibbs is the Yadz on favor right now, you know, to be the offense of player of the year. But if you're going to hit one of these guys at triple digits, you're going to need a lot of production obviously, but you're going to need other guys that have down years and you're going to need some injury luck too. Right. Bears and Carolina in week one bulldogs already on it. He was on Chicago like two months ago for our pick seg. The next week. Wow. Anything else Sam? What are you thinking about that we haven't talked about? White socks, baseball? Well, I'm actually, I'm walking in the socks right now. It is a magic wand night in the spirit of Harry Potter. Yes. They're giving away 20,000 magic wand. I believe we, what kind of projectile potential do these ones have? Sam, I just can't wait to see the clientele. There is 90 degrees outside bulldog. You're going to see all these people in wool outfits going to be crazy. But think about this. The white socks are still going to make the playoffs and Mike's going to cast at 10 to one ticket

and all the audience that that hopped in on 66 and a half over. White socks sitting currently on 73 wins. I think we're going to be okay guys. Has one already. Sneaky Joe was excited to tell me about that at that golf outing we had last week. He's like, I got there on the white socks. I heard. All right. So, you know what's funny? You bring that up. I haven't heard from sneaky Joe since that hit, by the way. Interesting. Well, he's on paternity leave at the moment. So maybe that's why. Oh, well, I'll, I'll, I'll it takes is a quick log into the messages part of the phone and just, hey, thanks for the white socks. I'm with you on that. When they, when they started one, when they started one in five, he texted me. I don't know about these white socks. Oh, that's not good. That's not cool. Definitely send that message, Joe, if you're out there listening right now. Yeah, when I was teasing you last year about that Rutgers game, it was more funny to me that it was going sideways. Like I wasn't like, oh, this is terrible. You're a jerk. It was just like, wow, good bat. Can't win them all. All right. So good bat. Nice. All right, Sam.

Thanks for this. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend. We'll talk next week, week one. All right. You guys too. Yeah, Hawaii under because if this weather is as bad as it could be, that 56 and a half could be like 53 tomorrow night. On my way, thanks again, Sam. Sam Paniatovich on the West her hotline. The twins, I think, are in town for Harry Potter night in Chicago. I think it's the twins this weekend. Coming up in about 16 minutes, Jim Coventry of Rotawire will talk some fantasy football as drafts are wrapping up here before the season. Howard Stellik later next hour, Mike Schoep in the Bulldog. Here this is WGR. It's Mike Schoep and the Bulldog. I don't love Junior Mints. I just don't hate them. I don't understand why they are treated like second class. Can it's Mike Schoep and the Bulldog? Oh, there's a different thing. I understand why a candy that is basically toothpaste wrapped up in stale chocolate is treated like a second class candy.

All right. That's a failed question. It's Mike Schoep and the Bulldog. Is there time to change? You know, the three teams I've drafted this year, second class candy is pretty good. Not WGR. Sports Radio 550. You know what? Believe it or not, that's a few years ago now. And that team didn't work out. And I think I know why. Never tell a team. It's second class, anything. You can't do that to a team. Bad message. You don't have to avoid that. You start, you'll walk in the door and like, here we go, second class candy. The players like what? Second class. Thanks. Wow. Really? Obviously you have a lot of respect for our talent. That was doing from the get go. Welcome back Mike Schoep and the Bulldog here. Happy Friday as we kick off Labor Day weekend. With us now is a friend of mine from a few years ago. Jim Coventry of Rotawire. Rotawire has been generous enough to lend us its talent throughout the football season

Friday afternoons. And that includes Jim who should know if he doesn't already from having talked to Adam and Jared that Jim. So Bulldog and myself are playing golf tomorrow on the heels of a main event draft with Adam Crosst and Jared Smola. And Bulldog claims that I don't even know that there was a draft because he's not a fantasy player really. But I guess I wrote you in. I love claims. Like you invited me. You said do you want to play golf on whatever date, 5th of September in Rochester. I'm like, yeah, that was the invite. So how was I supposed to know there? I don't know. I mean, to know there was an event. You didn't tell me there was a band. Don't you hear the name Jared Smola and just assume that there's a draft? Come on. Jim, you there? Yes. Oh, yeah. So he's letting you guys chop it up about Jared and the draft. That was our leading. That was a great time. I think it was a very interesting. I was waiting for a whole more leg to the story. It was getting interesting.

But yeah, good luck in the draft. A little draft. And we're ready to roll. No, really was pointless. I had nowhere to really end. I should have never begun. But that's how we wanted to tell Jim that I was going to see Jared and Adam tomorrow. Because you know those guys introduced me to both of these men. I've not met either of them. Yeah, because you go back with draft sharks, right Jim? Yeah, back from 2008 to 2016 and then went over to Rotowire. But yeah, it was a great time working with the drew a draft shark. It's just a great group of people. Great product. Love those guys. So here we go. I mean, I guess maybe I can't get away with saying any longer that like here's draft season because it's probably mostly over at this point. Would that I mean, there's got to be some action here this weekend. I think a lot of local leagues are draft in the days. Home leagues in the days. Yeah, like you're smaller. Plus our thing tomorrow that I just forgot about suddenly. You know what what has been for you Jim like a story or two of the off season this year that stands out as you look back on it. You know, the biggest thing and this is going to impact real football more than it'll impact fantasy, but it will have a trickle down effect.

It's that the usage of extra tight end is going to be a thing. And I remember before the preseason, people were saying, well, the Rams used three tight ends 30% of the time. I go, that's true, but it's a lie. They didn't start the week nine last year and they were using it 46 to 50% of the time. And they used it until they had injuries at the end of the season, but the point is this this year teams are going to use a second tight end more than ever. The teams have something they're trying to get a third or another field. So what does that mean? Well, it means one receivers on the field when you have three tight ends. So you're going to see less wide receiver snaps. Pook and the cool was down to 62% of the snaps while they were playing those sets. So this is going to have a trickle down effect that nobody really sees coming. The slot position is dying out fast. Slot snaps, we're going to all time low. So we're going to the way we watch footballs and be very different in the impact on fantasy football. We're going to see more tight ends than ever have some production and maybe in deeper leagues.

It's worth drafting some of those later tight ends and selecting them instead of a moderate wide receiver. How much, if at all, do you think that impacts the top tight ends? Like because there's three of them on the field. I mean, I guess I got like Bowers is going to get whatever he's going to get. He's going to be a target and you know, really the center of the passing offense I would assume. But it makes sense to me that if there's extra tight ends that they'll get targets. And maybe the main guy that you're counting on and drafting the earliest might get penalized for that. So typically in the three tight ends, one is a blocker. At most he'll leak out for a screen pass. I have a little breath there, but he won't be designed. The second tight end is an in between her. He can block. He can go out for routes. So I think that one replaces the slot receiver. So some of the slot producers that will replace that. But a lead tight end who's already a receiver that we've seen. Those roles are pretty secure because their snaps actually go up.

But I think again, those secondary targets just don't go to a wide receiver. The secondary targets go to an extra tight end, which raises those secondary tight ends. But I think the primary ones, their roles are largely unchanged. Jim, if you don't mind while we're here, let's pivot to the bills. And there are a team that loves their three tight ends. The X and Haws was primarily that blocking tight end last year, only caught 16 passes. Knox caught 36, concave caught 39. Obviously they're looking, I would think, to get concave more into the 70s. I think the other guys may be stay about where they are. What are you doing with concave this year? Because it's been, it's been a pretty smooth summer for him, which is not something you could say the last two summers. Right. And as well as your market knows this back in May, the team was talking about limiting concave. They caught off of that completely now. Now it's like he's healthier. Now what does that mean? Because there were games he was seeing 35% of the snaps. Like you said, injury maintenance for sure.

So now are we talking 55 or 60? And I don't know if it gets higher than that, but it's huge if he does. Because one out of three catches for Dalton concave were for at least 20 yards last year. That's how dynamic he is. And he is a skeleton key for offenses. So yes, he, him increasing that role and being healthy, it elevates the office. But I'm going to say a segue off for a minute. I can't speak enough of DJ more. And I don't know how your Buffalo fans are feeling about DJ more, but I think he could not be in a better spot. Last year in Chicago, he was playing under Ben Johnson. And Ben Johnson didn't use him 85 pergots. And I tried to figure out why. And then I realized that Ben Johnson wants a precise route runner. You are on this blade of grass at the second. That's not DJ more game. He's open every play, but he's more freelance. Talk about a perfect fit with Josh Allen. This Josh Allen really care if you're on this blade of grass at the time. And if a plate breaks down, it's Josh Allen is running around the back of DJ more is getting vertical, diagonal.

This is going Buffalo fans. You are going to love DJ more and he is going to have an insanely good season for you. I've liked this take. I've heard you make it on your shows. And really DJ more for me in my head is a ping pong match where you have. I mean, there are a lot of naysayers when it comes to this player is age. Scott Barrett for one namely is like, yeah, I think he's washed maybe not. I mean, we don't know. But you know, it's kind of been a really interesting back. And one of the more interesting players in fantasy this year for this is DJ more. I would say because I mean, all those guys in the first round mostly unless it's like McCaffrey because of his age is pretty much, you know, a straight line. Everybody loves them. It's a matter of ranking them. And you know, James Cook, Jim is in that that class. I mean, he's a first round pick or early second at the latest this year. Are you on board? Yeah, James Cook is one of the safest running back. Obviously you're going first and second take the john and Gibson any order you like them. But after that, you could really make a case.

The next running back should be taken after a few wide receiver. And it might be James Cook because like you said, McCaffrey aged his rushing ability to climb. If you had a hundred catches, but all that work and now he's older Jonathan Taylor fell to 3.3 yards of carry into gains. Daniel Jones missed. He's coming back from the kill. And he always misses at least five games a year. James Cook is just sitting there and it's like, you know what? We got paid last year. He finally got the 300 touches. We even know they lost David Edwards, the left guard. This is still a really good offensive line. And so James Cook is as safe as they come. Once you get past about six picks in your draft. Yeah, you know, add into that, but he's not a guy that gets hit square a lot. Like I can't recall him taking a huge hit. I mean, I'm sure he's gotten hit. He's a running back. But like he's got that ability to kind of just I don't know. It just kind of feels like a missus. You know, I can't think of a situation where he got, you know, like Wiley coyote or anything. Maybe Denver in the playoffs was the fumble. Maybe a play like that. But your point is valid. I'm not trying to pick at it by saying that just thinking of that as you're talking.

So you want to go as high and your Robinson overgives, I think you want to go as high as or be three for cook. So full disclosure. If in a 12 team league, O'Marion Hampton goes about pick 15. And if I'm picking about pick 10 or so, I could play chicken on Hampton. And I could think I could in many draft. I'll get cook at 10. Sometimes the father's months won't. And so if I could get cook and then coming back around. If I can get Hampton, I have Hampton actually ahead in terms of what I think you'll score. But because of the draft strategy, then I think I can get both at the end of the first round and into the early second round. That's how I tell my listeners to view them. But I do think Hampton has incredible upside. Hampton was actually now standing outside runner, unless you with no blocking coming up a broken ankle. And he is in like the mother of all systems for him in Los Angeles. How is Mike McDaniel? So I do think that that cook will finish the run back for. But as I said, depending where you're drafting, I would draft him as the running back three.

Sounds weird. I hope you get the logic on that. I do for sure. And you also have in there Chase Brown and Kenneth Walker who were put in Devon HN as well. Popular picks in that same range. Until recently, and maybe this is still mostly true, but so was Ashton Gentie. But now you've got some concern over his health going into the opener. I don't know Jim. Like I'm not worried about it. But if you draft a lot, this time of year is kind of fun because you see. I mean, Gentie went into the third round last night and one draft I was watching. You get that sort of sometimes not always, but sometimes overreaction to injury news. You're right. And the news has not been definitive, but every key lead you get a thing. It's a low ankle spring, which means he's going to be fine. Those don't linger once they heal. So if that's the case, we're looking at a player we were taking in the first round before the injury. And I know Mike Washington had a great preseason. And so I think maybe some people are worried now. This is more of a timeshare. But in those first two preseason games, half of Mike Washington's runs were useless.

They were negative to positive two yards, which keeps the offense off schedule. So if he's going to be a boomer bus runner, he's not going to get this massive workload. Gentie's going to be the guy because Gentie not only will give them the big place, but it'll keep him on schedule. So Gentie is a screaming feel and drafts because people just have made up these narratives. And they're following them. And I just don't think there's a lot of merit behind burying Gentie on a low ankle spring. With Jim Coventry of RotoWire Mike show in the bulldog here on WGR. His name has already come up here, but just what do you think of Walker in Kansas City? Like because we've seen the bills morph into this run heavy team and cook led the league in rushing last year. The chiefs with my homes, you know, coming off an injury and they had nothing for a run game last year. I could see them getting into like the idea of like, OK, let's become more like a 50 50 thing here because they now have a real stud back there.

You might be right on that and I feel like Andy Reed, how much is Andy Reed going to change his stripes? He, he either going to run some and he has had LaShon McCoy in the past and they've had a dynamic game. I think Walker is the most interesting player in the first two rounds of your drafts because in theory, if it works out in Kansas City and he catches the ball and that's they're talking about now in 2024 and only 11 games Walker at 46 catches. If that's the pace he gets in Kansas City for catches a game. He is going to come close to helping you win your lead, but here's the problem in his time in Seattle. He could never separate Kenneth Walker from Zach Sharbinate. Sharbinate got half of the work because Walker never proved to be able to move the offense on schedule. Yeah, the big plays are great. I don't use this number to statistic frequently, but I think it's important. Kenneth Walker had what we call a 25% pile success rate last year. What that means is he has so many runs that are of zero, one or negative yards. The offense is in a hole because what he does is he dances around looking for a hole and if the hole doesn't develop, instead of taking the two or three or four yards that he would gotten by running straight, he all of a sudden puts the team in a hole.

And I think when Andy Reed, unless they could get him Walker to change his game and get immediately down hill, I think it's going to get really frustrating for the coaching staff and they're going to probably end up doing what he settled it. We walk her in a time share they didn't expect. You make a really good point about read, like going back to his time in Philadelphia, I feel like I remember like you can't help himself. He's just got a throw. He's got a throw. He's got to throw, you know, and at the time that was held against them because Philly, you know, for the NFC championships, they could never get there and close the deal. Now that he's one in Kansas City is sort of like, you know, he's exalted genius man. So we'll see where that where that goes. So I think with Jim Coventry of Roto wire, for all the drafts I've done, maybe it's around a hundred this year last year was more by the way before you go make a face full dog. So I've cut back. I don't think I've seen a single one where Josh Allen wasn't the first quarterback. There really is just like no debate about that. And sometimes it's like three rounds or even four rounds later, where the second one goes. How do you feel about that, Jim? I mean, I don't think it's worth debating whether he should be quarterback one because it seems unanimous.

But I never get them almost because like I just don't want to pay the price if I can get, you know, close to the same kind of quarterback production a few rounds later. You're exactly correct. And what happens is when you're in these leagues and you draft Allen the third round, all of a sudden you find yourself chasing it running back or wide receiver because you missed out on one of the premium ones. And I would rather chase it run at quarterback. I'm sure chase a quarterback because I have options. I have a lot of options later that I like. Yeah, Allen is the linchpin number one, but at what cost like you said, and I know a lot of people have been successful drafting a quarterback early. I just never feel my roster is good if I try that approach. And so I just don't do it. Now Lamar Jackson, you brought a three round value because he was hurt last year, a hamstring, which he's never been a guy with soft tissue injuries. And you know, that ended up becoming knee toe foot injuries because he was, you know, licking around on a bad hamstring. So three round value. If Lamar Jackson is falling into the six round in your draft at that point, that is a value you can't pass up.

I think do I hope I have this right. And I'd like to put this in front of Bulldog to I think if I were to ask you your favorite quarterback pick this year, it's Kyler Murray, isn't it? It is with Kevin O'Connell. I'm going to play out a couple of things for you. First of all, Sam Donald, who we left for being a non factor ever in football because he was not good for many years. He goes into Minnesota with Kevin O'Connell's offense and he throws her 4,300 yards and 35 touchdowns. It was I'm sorry. Sam Dunnell, I don't want to go both giving credit, but it was Kevin O'Connell. The offense of tackles were great. The receivers are great. The scheme. The plays are great. Kyler Murray is far better than Sam. Donald ever was walking in here. He was a league average quarterback, but everybody forgets that. And the durability. He had an ACL that costs them parts of two seasons. So we penalize it twice for the same injury. Kyler Murray has been like an average quarter. I completed a horrible Arizona system. Bad offensive lines. Cliff Kingsbury with the most predictable offense until Kingsbury improved in his next job. So in my mind, if Kyler Murray is an average quarterback, even that he has Jefferson, Addison, Hockinson, an offensive line, and he can run. I don't see how this goes long.

So Jim Josh Jacobs on whatever day it was last Sunday. I think it's when I heard driving back from Louisville was commissioners exempt list. And then everybody just decided that's that for Josh Jacobs doesn't have a court date until November. Now today they announced that that court date is moved up two months, even before they open. He'll be, you know, in court. I guess that's the plan anyway. So how have you ridden this ride with him? So yes, so my initial take when it was in November court date was he would remain on the exempt list until his court date. Now that was an initial court date. That's only not to date things get done. We talked to Drew David Porter, a great friend who's a lawyer and understands stuff. And he said the case should go on past that. So at that point, I'm like, well, don't trap Jacobs because you're probably not going to have them because they give him a suspension because the exempt was not a suspension. It's paid. But then once they settle the court case, he could get the minimum six games and you're looking season over. But now the fact of court date is September 10th or 11th, they just had a new post Adam Shepard if that either of those dates. So the point becomes this.

It that had to be driven by Jacobs legal team. They are the ones that had to get the court. They push up because there's no way the legal system is going down there on. They had no reason to. So my guess is there they may. This is fully a guess on my part. The legal team is probably going to try to get the case settled quickly. And then if it gets settled right away and at the league that are hoping the league is just the six games. If that happens, even if it's eight games, you could get Jacobs for close to half the season. And in that case, now I think once you're into drafting the hand cup running backs, I think you're drafting Jacobs just above those because if you got a half a season with fresh legs out of him, I think at that point, it would be way worth it. You just have to get there. You can't afford to have a team where you have enough injuries and you can't hold on to him or you have to any player who's injured like that, you've got to be hopeful that you can make it that long into the season. Jim one player whose opinion, I'm not sure I know of in terms of what you think, Dejon Stribling, another exciting player to talk about, argue about this summer San Francisco rookie many thought overdrafted, but then he shows up in camp and preseason and is making waves. They lose Ricky pierce all Evans is hurt. It's always the way with San Francisco.

How high is too high for him? So he is going about 90s picks in the draft. So he's, you know, 12 team league is going in the eighth is round and I think that that's a fair price. But here's what I'm saying. I was drafting Stribling in July before pierce all got hurt before training camp started. And my whole case was this I said, Stribling is exactly if you cooked up in a lab, what a Kyle Shanahan receiver of the big super fast can block and can run with the ball on his hands. All those are like exactly what they need. And that's why they use the 33rd pick traded up to get him in that spot. So he is a clear fit. I remember when they drafted brand that I you gears back before everything like crazy. I you was another one of those players that did really well in Shanahan scheme. So I bought into that. But the bigger picture was this. Mike Evans is old and he missed 12 games in the last two years. And I already said father time has him at a chokehold right now. And then he in camping is missing time and then pierce all goes down. Stribling is in line to lead this team in receiving because D.

So they already said it's going to be in a part time role splitting a position. Stribling could not be in a better situation. So yes, if he is going in the end of the eight rounds in your draft. And if you really want them, then in the late seventh, not too early because Kyle Shanahan will get production out of a wide receiver. And I'm sure it is bulldog. You got that. I'm making note. John Stribling is an apostrophe in there somewhere. Jim, thanks to you and your colleagues at road wire for being a part of our team this season. Look forward to talking again. Thanks Mike before I go code WGR at roadwire.com gets 50% wow. It's a great deal. We have all of our draft tools are rankings to get you set up for when for winning your league, but again WGR at roadwire.com 50% off. You're run by a Buffalo guy. Tim. I mean, I've been in touch with him over the years. And I am a big fan of the road aware content. So very good. Thanks again, Jim. Have a good weekend. Thank you.

Jim Coventry of road aware with us. Theo Greminger Ian Hartitz Jim Coventry. Maybe a couple more of their many analysts will join us over the course of the season on Friday afternoon. That's a pretty sweet little deal. So good. Half off. Yeah. They have all sports too. One thing about road aware versus some of the other sites we have guests on from is this is not just a football site. Right. So you got hockey coming up. Sneaky Joe's dynasty league. Perhaps you're in that. You might want a little bit of guidance. Probably not. I mean, I thought I wouldn't need guidance, but I'm not in. I definitely need the guidance. I'm not a hockey dynasty league. Yeah. Yeah, no, I'm out. My portfolio is shrinking. Evidently. Let me let me check. Hang on. I got a. I got to refresh my screen here. I got one. And I may even not participate in the draft. Owen Owen. Cole manager. Gord Stellock coming up after the update. Mike show in the bulldog WGR.

Mike show in the bulldog. Welcome back. Happy Friday with us now. This is cool. It's been a cool week. It's been a good week with these. I agree with us now on the western hotline is Gord Stellock. You can hear Gord on serious XM NHL network radios the morning skate 7 a.m. Eastern weekday morning channel 91. And by the way, you can hear us on the serious XM app or on Channel 175. If your car works really well. Check out serious XM dot com slash sports pass for more details how to subscribe to serious XM's all new sports plan. I want to talk about curling, but that seems like that would be really selfish because I met Gord at a curling event in Niagara Falls a few years ago leading with that. Gord, do you remember this interaction? We were talking about it yesterday and we didn't wager on whether you'd remember meeting him at a curling event. I would never be so bold. The world of weight. Your answer. I absolutely do. It's there's all kinds of great people on their curling events. I know that the same a lot of places, but I have 100% percent. Remember it very, very well. And you know, the other part. It's great that we have a partnership now on on serious. I'll tell you I've listened to GR for decades like I am a Toronto guy, but Buffalo was my real house. So great being on board and then great hearing NFL football starting because that means NBA and NHL and I'm going to be a great.

I'm going to be a very, very happy in any challenge and curling will all be there. It's all happening. Curly has all this new stuff. It seems like the slam events and the Rock League and everything like that. But we can we can put that aside. From your perspective, Gord, as we all in Buffalo just were kind of blown away by what happened with the Sabres last year. One question I've wanted to ask all our hockey analysts is just like to what extent you might have seen it coming. we waited so long for just a appearance in the playoffs with the sabers and then you get that first place and game seven of the second round. Did you have any sense that that was on the horizon for them? I would say almost zero. That kind of turned around like when you're working with the team, that's what you hope for, right? You're, you're as a matter of fact, like all summer you sit there and you just think about the best case scenario. If everything can go right and that had not happened in Buffalo for long period time and you know guys that that's why you play the games right because things that happened that just don't make sense. And when I say that, I say that with respect because I liked how they were

putting things together, but to have another season that's going down the tubes and then a light switch goes and it does a complete 180 like it did. It's so unusual. I was, hey, very happy for the fans, long suffering fans. I don't like to see, you know, organizations with a history like Buffalo or any of them, you know, Toronto was it for a while to try it now? I mean, have that many years that you're out of the flaps. So I always felt, you know, they kept retooling, retooling again. I liked what I saw coming together, but I boy, I was stunned how it just seemed to do a 180 in the middle of season. It's hard not to be stunned, Gordon, when the season begins, I mean, there was plenty of, oh, plenty. There were some analysis before the season that like, okay, you know, the decor, the gold tending will stabilize. They could be a wild card contender. That was, but then the season begins and they're in last place. And you're just like, okay, here we go again. And then the switch just flips. I mean, it's, I think it's very hard not to be stunned. However, into it you are and however deep you go on your analysis of the,

of the additions and subtractions in an off season, once it began and they looked like the same old, same old junk, it's very hard to expect it to turn around. In fact, it took the 10 game winning streak and, and then some, I think we were asking each other into marks like, are they good? Are they really good? It's just, you know, the scar tissue is deep. Yeah. Yeah. Well, you know, the one constant in any sport is if you get your confidence and all of a sudden, like, you know, you believe you can do it in that. And you know, it did like team just so quite often say that, but they don't really mean it. And then to, you know, experience winning, get addicted to winning. And there was that one game when, when I remember there were a few fights and you could see them in the belly box. Yeah. Yeah. We're, you know, what? We're kicking ass now. We're, you know, one tonight and we're kicking their ass physically and wow, we can win all kinds of different ways. And it was kind of, you know, great to see them kind of grow, learn to win and race winning and decide that they can do it.

All that said, what do you think of their off season? Because there's two, there were two, I don't know, kingpin is strong, but like talk really mattered for them. Byroom was a part of that top four on their decorer that really ran the whole thing for Lindy Ruff. And they're both gone. And there is not a, there's not a beard growing, you know, 30 year old in anybody's place. It's all kids. And so I don't know. What did you think of their off season? Well, you know, you know, in Toronto last year showed when you lose a Mitch Mariner, what it did for Vegas and what it did in the opposite way for Toronto, not single handedly, but you know, your elite players are huge in making that it really important margin of difference. And it's, I wouldn't compare them to Mariner, those losses in, in Buffalo. They certainly, you know, they got big, byroom, they had to look at it in a, kind of a business situation. They got futures back and they looked the year ahead as far as, uh, and maybe being a UFA or a contract they weren't going to sign.

Talk was a strange one. I just kind of, you know, I just kind of thought it would, it would come together, but they, but they got something for them. So yeah, those are significant losses. But the biggest thing, you know, Mike and Bulldog is like this division, like, you know, you, you may have made any team a couple of strides last year, but every, what did the Atlantic division, every, if you don't make the playoffs, you're going to be pissed off. Like I mean, there, there just is everybody coming full floor. So that's going to be the toughest thing that, you know, you have that great year in Buffalo and, you know, you get back in the deep end of the pool in the playoffs, you do it at a time when the division as a whole has never been stronger. Yeah, it might have been the best division ever that they won last year. And you know, that's Toronto taking a step back. But I mean, you had what five 100 point teams or 99 point teams. We have been trying, Gord, we don't have that much power, which is evidence by the fact that we've not been able to give it anyone to move the Sabers or even the bills to like the Southern divisions of sports. That seems like a much more come for your existence.

It's just never gone over, never gotten off the ground, really that idea. Connor Hellerbuck, we've been spending more time this summer with the Sabers talking about a player who isn't on the Sabers, maybe than anyone else, but this continuing speculation about Hellerbuck fueled by insiders continuing to mostly at least report that they think he still will be traded. And he's made that statement affirming that he wants to be. So if you were the Sabers, how hard would you want to go at him? Well, I strongly, strongly, I don't know what that's the right word. I mean, I look at Buffalo and you see the example of, you know, Dominic Hashtag can Ryan Miller and what that means, okay? So among many things last year, the goal tending was certainly up to snuff, but to have a guy, then there's very few of those guys anymore. They're just, you know, because a lack of them retired, the one person to the world and that you, I mean, you just don't have a number of goal tenders that you put and say, okay, that is the number one. I mean, just a lot more partnerships now and tenders than that.

So I would think and, you know, I don't know if leverage is going to come into play and the Sabers or another team's favor and getting him. It seems like Evan Shevelday office determined that, you know, he's got a certain price he wants to get in Winnipeg, but I just think that, you know, you, you, you got to go after this guy for the Buffalo Sabers. Is anybody talking about him not showing up for training campers a little too early? Like if, if nothing, if nothing changes. So he's going to go on vacation with Dylan Merkin. Is that it? There'll be some island. I, I, I, I, I, I, that, it, it, it, it is the wild west out there with the types of contracts that have been given out, the types of players that like, you know, whether you, you look at Brady, Kachuk and Ottawa to Florida that have been able to demand and get a trade with term left on their contracts and teams kind of realize, you know what? It's better that we ask that way than trying to be the hard asses. So those are the interesting questions about, you know, whether it's Larkin and Detroit or hella buck and Winnipeg. What is the tactic once training camp starts?

So I, I, I'm going to wait and see what gives, but I think there would be a decent chance that they're not going to go to training camp. Then do the, do the Red Wings and the Jets play, you know, hard asses and say, well, you know what, you're not going to, we're not going to trade you until you're in camp. So there's just a lot of stuff going on that's not usual in the off season. Gord, how, how much if, if at all, do you think it matters to the sabers to get a big move into the boat? Where he talked about talk and bi-room leaving. I like the Zellweger bet to replace some of what bi-room did for them style wise. I think it, it might be a good fit there. It's a bet I would make anyway, but I already talked about how they didn't really do anything substantive to replace those guys. They're hoping for the, you know, the kids to backfill. I wonder if a team that had 109 points and won the division to break a 15 season playoff drought should symbolically be looked like a team that's like, okay,

look, we're doing this now because we're here. And you made a good point too as well. You know, so they didn't backfill substantively, but they did in Zellweger and that, you know, get, get some quality. But no, no, the, the, we, the fans all like it. It's sexy, right? It's the big, the big, big, bold move. Love it. Talk about it. We love action. It should meet points. It should mean it's down like no. Exactly the opposite. Stay the course about whatever move, you know, the, the, the, the great teams are the ones that, okay, every move you make, if it makes you incrementally better and you make more moves that make you more incrementally better than a step back. That's how you get there. I mean, you look at the bricks that the Florida Panthers put together with all the different acquisitions and how it all came about. You know, why they, well, barcoph language is a top young player for years out of the playoffs. So no, I think the armored kekele line is just the great right guy kind of guy to be GM of the Buffalo savers you do not. I mean, I mean, the one is the little one like say the rare unrestricted free agent like

Mitch Marner was for Vegas. Like you can't go wrong with that because you're giving up nothing. But in other instances, no, you got to surround yourself with quality hockey people and make the best hockey moves based on that. Gord, before you go, just a thought on the Leafs here. I think it's interesting just, you know, in a vacuum, a team that was at where they appeared to be at would go and make the Bobrafsky signing Darren Radish even like they, they, they acted in my opinion more like a team that was right on the cusp of the playoffs or even in the playoffs. But maybe that's the market a little bit where I don't know how much patience anybody has there for like what would look more obviously like a rebuild. So what do you think of the Leafs at this point? Yeah, well, you know, when you were talking about we were talking about the Atlantic Division earlier. So you have the previous years team that won the Stanley Cup Florida and the previous years team that came first Toronto, not getting in the playoffs last year. So about the balance back on both sides. That that was just much as the switch went on in Buffalo.

The switch never went on in Toronto last year, which almost was just as much of a surprise what went and I don't I unfortunately get the feeling that having made nine consecutive playoffs the previous nine years that that is over, you know, that is over as far as when we're talking Stanley Cup and where you want to avoid getting is I always think you got to be fish or foul. You got to be in the deep end of the pool with a legitimate chance of the cup which they were for a number of years or you got to be doing the rebuild which yeah, you can be a little long on the rebuild like Buffalo was and Detroiters right now but you know like that's the way you got to go but because they have their next two years first round picks are not watery protected and are been traded to Boston until it out of you. You don't know that little battle alternative. So I don't know if they about I mean they should bounce back just based on his Austin Matthews healthy his tan of healthy to the get better goal-tending but then all of a sudden you get in that one I think the worst place to be is the mushy middle then you get that mushy middle that okay maybe you're good enough to make the playoffs and then you can eliminate in the first round and and

so it goes and so it goes and so it goes so I'm intrigued to see can they do a more significant bounce back or not. Yeah I agree completely with that. I mean go get it or step back and I think fans have more patience and understanding for that than ever before like maybe when you were GM just going back 20-30 years ago I don't know like I don't know if people were really ready to listen to we're going to rebuild but you know then at the same time go ahead. Yeah I think owners were listening now if you share like the old fans are not stupid okay like if you share what you're doing and they can see what you're doing then I think that's the way to go and bring them in on it now again in Buffalo Buffalo is an example it carried on too long but still you know fans will you know like to see and if you if you share that with them I I think I think you can get that kind of patience like you look at the Montreal Canadians you know for example so anyway we'll see what gives I think that be keto right curling hurry hard right

whatever you're very hard right is the credo for all 32 NHL teams how about that. Keep sweeping it does have to be hard to really back up if you've got Matthews still in his prime and knee lander still in his prime like that that's tough I mean it's one thing if those guys said I want out now sort of like Larkin and hella buck have done then maybe that's different then you can maybe back the truck all the way up I think it's hard to back it all the way up when you've got those dudes in their primes. Yeah oh yeah you got it you got to keep running at it and you got to say okay that you got a hope last year was a blip and Buffalo fans have the hope last year wasn't a blip for the Buffalo Sabers and that's what we'll see like I said there'll be some great battles and back to the good old days the when they're both you know playoff playoff contenders expect to be in the playoffs like like like the great rivalry really has been since the Sabers joined the league in 1970. Right on listen for Gord Stelek on Sirius XM NHL Network Radio the morning skate 7 a.m. Eastern weekdays channel 91 thank you Gord this was really nice.

Well great and good luck to the baseball team too they've been developing real good players for Toronto Blue J fans as well so I always enjoy your show and enjoy the station. Thanks very much again have a great day to say that Gord. Labor Day weekend. All right Gord Stelek with us on the Western hotline that's Labor with you. That's right. Yep gotta put that you in there. No I and team or in labor or labor either spelling either country that's right good point Mike show up in the Bulldog back after this time out this is WGR. It's Mike's show and the Bulldog. All right what's the report from outside. I was outside for maybe three minutes accounted eight Q tips. It's got to be one person that just throws their Q tips out the window when they're done using them in their cars. It's Mike's show. One person more than one person using Q tips and throwing them outside. I don't think I use eight Q tips in a year. I think I've never used eight Q tips and the Bulldog.

The hell is going out out there. I don't think I'm gonna work in a place where people like roll their windows down if you're using Q tips for lard knows what and just throw them on the ground. Well you do. What is it the 70s? Oh that's not very nice. It's Mike's show and the Bulldog. Driving on the highway 65 mile hour you're gonna get a little left in my soda from the fast food drive the window and that was the 70s and gives an F about anything. Throw a burrito. Nothing matters. 2025. What are you doing? None WGR. Throwing Q tips out of your car. Sports Radio 550. Just thought of how yesterday or maybe Wednesday was Sal we didn't talk to Sal yesterday. Do we? Must have been Wednesday. Right. The game the bills played last year against Carolina came up. Mm-hmm. And how James Cook like the big runs. Yeah we're talking about his big blows of plays. Yeah. Yep. And I or you one of us sort of threw in like he could have gone for the record that day

but they got way ahead. You did mention that. Yeah. They won that game 40 to 9. It was 40 to 3 at the end of the third quarter. So yeah you know take them out. Right. Right start resting people. Yeah. But he went for 216 yards from rushing alone. He didn't catch a pass in that game. 216 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. And I don't remember exactly when he came out but you know he had a two yard. I'm looking now at the play-by-play at a two yard run to start a drive in the third quarter. Davis came in. Allen scored and then I think maybe they all came out after that. So he didn't play in the fourth quarter. I think that's safe to say. Mm-hmm. Did we ever talk about whether they should have gone for it? Like did anybody? I know that this is sort of like not what you're thinking about it's your driving home for the holiday weekend right now but did we ever like what it had been nuts to you seem like the sort to at least want to poke

at that a little bit but I don't remember it being hotly debated. You it seems like what I don't mean this as a criticism of you but like it seems to kind of think I on a birthday after a 40-9 game right like what are we doing? Yeah bills get your palm up like nobody's calling they're not nobody there's nothing to be mad about. The 40-9 is like a walkthrough. So what do we usually do like we'll find something that might you know move the meat a little bit and that would have been a thing and I don't know if I just said yeah sure but no. I don't remember thinking it though. Yeah I don't either. I don't think I would have. I don't know that it came up just saying it's the kind of thing to talk show my print up like should you have gone for the record? I'm not somebody who gets upset when you sit your stars in a blowout like yeah I have had I had a stretch in my life where I took exception to teams sitting their stars for entire games because they didn't need the

game at the end yeah right because people buy tickets and like I think a paid manning for this like you're just gonna that play them I mean can I get my money back then but nobody gives you your money back. No that sounds like I would never have thought like they should have left James cook on the field but I think if they had we would have been screaming about that. If they'd well maybe right. And how it plays them all he just plays the one play in week 18 he started in the preseason it's always sort of a case by case you know with these and cook 216 yards it was just like knife through butter in that game you know what the record is the all-time NFL record. 272. 296. 296 Adrian Peterson. Feel like 272 is Jamal Lewis's number before Peterson if he broke that record. I feel like Jamal Lewis had 272 maybe that's what I have in my head for some reason. Oh that might be an O.J. number in Detroit on Thanksgiving. There was also Chris Johnson a long time ago so I might be conflating different things but two what did you say the numbers

290. 296 is the NFL record. There's also Chris Johnson for Tennessee who had a famous game but like it could have happened. Sure yeah that's that's that's one more that's one more big run and then like a couple of 12 yarders right. And then you're in there. I think 296. Bet online set out an email today with all the records. Passing receiving rushing single game and how you know this is I think this is intuitive that no nothing is like favored to be broken. Payton Manning throwing for 55 touchdown passes. Will that record be broken this year? No. I mean minus 2000. No. Nothing's favored to actually be broken. Of the big records. The closest is receiving yards because this has been close. I mean Tyree Killgot right there a couple of

years ago three years ago. The record is 1,964 receiving yards. Calvin Johnson in 2012 plus 550 that that record will be broken but now we're back in the ground and pound era. Right so he tightens three tight hats baby. Maybe it's high density break that record. Cook could have done it that day 296. He had 216 and on 19 carries. You know what the best one on here is for me. This so this was when believe it or not there was a day where I disliked the idea of playing fantasy football. I wanted nothing to do with it. I just did not play it all. I played as a kid. You were you were here. I was probably your influence on me because you know. I feel I I feel like I steered you away from I got out of it. Your true is calling. I was taking you away from it. I can't say I grew out of it. I more grew into it. Right because you know when you mature maybe it's the kind of thing you'd grow out of but I went the other way. I played as a kid. You know USA Today box scores the show is

never sounded older sending out results in the mail. You know people having to call me with their line of the mail. The good old days. The mail. Well we still have the mail. But then when I was working here for the first few years I didn't play it all and had I this would be indelible to me but it isn't because I didn't care about this kind of thing through fantasy through stats. Ladinian Thomson 2006. Ladinian Thomson had 28 rushing touchdowns. What did Cook lead the league with? Good Lord. He shared the league league 16 16 more games. Yeah. Not only did Thomson rush for 28 touchdowns in 2006. In a span of eight games he ran for 21 of his 26 in eight games and he had five zeros

that year. So in five of his 60 played in every game. Five of his 16 games he did not rush for a touchdown. In the other 11 he ran for 28 and in a span of eight including a game at the bills in late November early December my wife went with her brother to see San Diego and the bills lost but it was kind of close. He ran for two 21 rushing touchdowns in an eight game span. I mean that that seems all time incredible. It is it is just like record stuff. Yeah. Thomson. Yeah. He's in the hall of fame. Not to change the subject in backtrack but just to fill it in. He said Peterson's 296. He got Lewis by a yard. Oh yeah. My memory is off. The 272 is that OJ game from the Silver Dome. I'm thinking that's giving Silver Dome. And I'm pretty sure that number is 272 now I'm going to check that too but 295 was Jamal Lewis's number from September of 2003

Ravens against Browns 30 carries 9.8 yards per carry in Cleveland 295 and then he went and played for Cleveland. Right. They had to have him. See what that guy did to us. But I wonder how I don't remember the Peterson situation. Right. Like did he have to keep playing? Did it matter? Were they out of it? Anyways, I just played play my best guy. But like to get the record by a yard seems like there's like we got to get one more yard. Right. Yeah. I'm thinking of the guys in the booth in 73 counting down. There's four more for OJ trying to trying to beat Jim Browns record. You know, different situations, single game versus season but still same kind of thing. And Peterson just gets a I wonder if Jamal Lewis was somewhere sweating that like watching the get go. Come on. Make a play. Make a tackle. Stop. What are you guys doing? Was he with Minnesota? At the time, Peterson. I got him. Right. I can't imagine he had that good a game somewhere else.

I know he played, you know, you know, Pat way past his prime, I guess I'd say that's not very kind, but I think it's true. Now he played for New Orleans. Yeah. I had maybe Arizona. It had to be Minnesota. I think it did. How important is cook? Everybody seems to know if Josh Allen were to break, we would all break. Like that would be it. We all think that yes is cook. What is cook? I think because you have Josh Allen, you can offset it. I think you just like we talked about when we got into this conversation the other day that actually generated this conversation. See how it works, everyone? Easy game. You lose explosiveness. You're losing house calls. I don't think Ray Davis, I like Ray Davis as I think he's a talented guy. I don't think he has that gear. I didn't think cook had that gear before a couple of years ago, but he clearly does. He does have

like sales said like he sees guys out of his ear hole somehow. Like his vision is incredible. And that is what helps you. You're not always just overpowering or outmaneuvering. You're outmaneuvering. You know where people are at and if you can see it, then you have a better chance at making more guys miss and make a house call. I don't think they have another. I think that's a big part of cook's appeal. I think. So you'd lose that, but I don't know in the end how impactful does that end up being because of Alan. Whereas if you lose Alan, you're like, okay, well, I was already going to give the ball to cook 20 times. Want to give it to him 30? I don't think it's going to work. Right? I need Alan. And I think Alan does. Look, this might not be right, but I feel like he could overcome a number one running back being injured. Whereas I don't think a number one running back

at all can help you overcome your monster rock star Robocop quarterback going down. I agree. You're cooked. I agree. Sorry. Not trying to be cute with the language there. Cooked. Anyway. Oh, James Cook. Yeah. I see. No, I agree. I have to capitulate on how good he's been these last two years. I never was really on board with it that the bills themselves. I used this against them. The bills themselves, Brandon being himself called him a sub back when they drafted him. Like he was meant as a compliment to who were Latavius Murray, whoever else they had at the time, you know, Damien Harris. I don't know whoever was and it just gave me the impression that they didn't ever think this these last two years were really the plan at all. But you know, some of that is circumstances and he's held up. I mean, to say the least. He's generally missed a game really well. Yeah. We talked about this with you with Jim. Jim Coventry. Jim Coventry. Today. Yeah. I

even made the point like, you know, it's not how germane it was to the conversation. But he, I feel like you can count on him to stay healthy. He's not someone that I see get hit a lot. I mean, that doesn't mean he's not going to turn in me or something. I mean, anything can happen. It's football. But he's not a guy that I worry. He's not like he's not camp scatable. He's not you know, looking to he's not looking, he's not craving contact. His vision and his agility allows him to avoid a lot of that. I think so he's he's really turned into an impressive player that I don't I don't think I don't think a lot of us saw it coming, especially those in the running backs, you know, don't matter camp and don't pay these guys and whatever. I mean, he's the country that they have him on right now. We'll wait and see what happens next off season. Because he, I think if he has another, you know, whatever, lead the league or not, 14, 1500 yards, the receiving goes up 10 touchdowns to whatever. He has the year he's had without

necessarily leading the league and anything. If I'm him, I'm making a call at the early march. Like, hey, what are you going to do for my guy? Because I mean, I don't I don't want that to come to pass, but it feels like it would be kind of nuts if it didn't because of what happened this off season with the running back all the contracts. I mean, everything's going crazy. Right? I mean, you got a situation now where, right? CJ Stroud is saying, yeah, 50 million year, we talked to Wilk Honkel about this early in the week. 50 million years, not really cutting it 70 is more in line with the percentage of the cap that the big guys are now. So you got to kind of get there. And so the same thing is going to happen at all the other positions. And this off season, I think tells you that the league, because of more running, three tight ends, whatever the factors are, just more money overall that running back salaries are sort of going up. Yeah, yeah. You know, as the record for most rushing yards into game against

the bills, we were there. And we were not at John and the Taylor. So it's not John and the Taylor. No, I wasn't. Okay, we were working. Yep. Okay, then it's not Ricky Williams and 02. No, I ain't as soon as you said, I'm going to go, yep, I remember that, but I don't have it. I never would have got it. I mean, the to famous player, I never would have thought of this game as like the all-time. I'm sure once that I knew this, but I would never have remembered it as the record game for rushing yards by a player against the bills. Levy on Bell for Pittsburgh. Rex's last game. He's fired after this game. And the bills won the game, didn't they? No, they didn't. I'm sorry. I don't remember the Steelers. Yeah, kind of a little bit snowy. Yeah, yeah, I remember I can see the day. I just 2016. Okay, 38 for 236 and three with was Levy on Bell. That game.

What's the great if I ask you, he parlayed that into ending his career. He bought a jet. Basically, he just chose to end his career. Yeah, I mean, it's not Brandon IU close close. He did get a contract from the jets. Yes, he did. And he basically that ended quickly. Yes, it did. Another great idea for a terrible team. It's always terrible. Go out and get the running back. You got to you got to do it. You got to go get the running back that is almost retired and pay him whatever he wants. You got to do it. That's good planning. Good process there. So that is if I ask you and I don't know that I have I don't have an answer for myself at the ready. The greatest game you've ever seen a running back play. Would this be an OJ game? Is that Detroit? I mean, I didn't watch. Yeah, two 73. It's the game in Detroit. God, I get that wrong all across the board. Close though. And that was the record at the time. Right. And it lasted a year.

Walter Peyton broke it the next year. Most rushing yards in a game. If you're looking at that list right now, does he have a like a 220 something in New England? He's a 250 250 opening day of that year. Okay. All right. I can see a run from watching all those highlights around the right end. Yes. Where he just sort of it's incredible. Yeah. His highlights are non-porelle. Oh, Jason Sampson. Like just it doesn't even look real. That run against New England opening day 73. It's is it a pitch or it's a handoff around the right end. And he gets to the sideline and like it's he's gone. And he's gone. Nobody. No people have the angle on him and they just can't get there. Yeah. Like he's I don't know. Highlightry falls down and gets on. Yes. There's a rainy as a rainy as a rainy game at the old stadium where he slides on the turf and gets up and then continues to get there. There's the run. Yeah. Like he goes to stop and loses his footing and everybody else keeps going to right now. He gets up and just runs in.

It's video games. Yeah. Yeah. Pittsburgh 75 and Pittsburgh. Yeah. Around the right side. It's like the same run on the other side. Well, it's the same run, but the bills are going the other direction. Right. But around the right end. And just like it's over. Yeah. Reggie or Jody out there pulling leading the way. Yeah. Kind of like Derek Henry a little bit. When that happens. Like we've seen it him him do this against the bills where it gets it gets second level this happened last year in the opener. Like it's just over like the running Baltimore the Sunday night in Baltimore where he goes. Is that the first play the game? It was like 80. Yeah. Just like, okay. Poof. Yeah. The biggest guy on the field. I like I like that. You know what? Because OJ OJ was big. Well, he OJ I was six to maybe like he was not a small. Yeah. He was fast. And always I think sort of not given credit for how powerful he could be. Because he was a big guy.

But he made some of the people miss and the speed was the calling card and all these famous runs we're talking about. Like you don't have you don't have some version of Earl Campbell runs with OJ. Like he just he's going out of bounds. Yeah, I have time for. It's like, yeah, I'm good. I'm good. I don't need to put my head down. That was who that was Franco Harris. Right. Because Jim Brown used to mock him for doing that. Right. Is that what it was? Like Franco was coming up on his record for career yards, which he got. And Brown would make fun of them for going out of bounds. Yes. Yeah. They're both. They're both dead. But I don't have to argue about it. And OJ I mean, I watched the reason I mentioned that New England game is I, you know, road game out the game for not on TV, the home games. So anything he really did at home, I almost never saw any of it. Except for that one Bengal game in 73 that I was at. But that was a pretty non-descript game. I think like 16 for 96 and a touchdown, which you know, it's a fine day.

But like in a year where you go for 2003, it's kind of like, I got the dud. So you open a pack of cards. So I you get Mike Easler. Sorry Mike. I saw I saw I sat as a kid and watched all those, but I don't. You know, as a kid, I just don't have like the recall to tell you. I'm like, oh, yeah, I remember. I'm sure they were incredible. And as we watched them again now, it'd be really impressive. So I don't I don't want to strike him from like the answer here as like the most impressive running back game I ever saw. So there's a famous Emmett Smith game. With Dallas, I think it's at the Giants. In the Super Bowl years, like they needed the game for division, a home field. And maybe he had a broken arm. And he played and he had a huge game for Dallas. Is that the sounds this is ringing bells. I mean, I didn't I don't think I watched that game. But I probably have since and feel like I can hear

Summer All in Madden just being in awe of Emmett Smith, which I never was in awe of Emmett Smith. No, me either. He he went. He did that game. You talked about with OJ like every week. 18 for 96 every week. Just a score or two. Yeah. Yeah. Good. He's fine. Yep. Wasn't Barry Sanders. No, not at all. Like he he was of those. Is it right to call them the big three of that like Barry Sanders, Thurman and and Emmett. Thank you. Yeah. And I think Emmett by a mile was the most boring of the three guys. Yeah, I mean Sanders was a highlight reel. Thurman was a pass catcher. He was the all-purpose yards guy. And Emmett was just sort of the workman like Plowhorse kind of on the perfect team with Larry Allen and the perfect line. Just sort of easy game. Irvin and Elvin Harper and whatever. Yeah. I think Jay Nova. Jay Nova. Jay Nova. Check. Welcome back to the show. There he is. A long time. You're back.

Any game that would rate as the one I would pick for this is the most impressive running back performance I've ever seen would have to be high volume. It would have to be a game where like Earl Campbell, if I rolled her and watched had access to more of his games, he might have been the winner like just a game where you can't believe they're still getting up like a boxer or something like a fighter that you're just taking a beating but they keep getting up and they keep coming. Yeah. And that's like that's quintessentially Campbell. Campbell by the way has that run against Miami like that OJ run around the right where he just may he just goes all our ourselves freaking out. Like that's an amazing highlight too. That's a Monday night game in Houston. In Houston. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That might be the night that I fell in love with the Oilers. Yeah. Like that I can see the the intro to Monday night football and the pom-poms and the song playing and the whole thing and just like.

Wow. This is so cool. Look at these guys. Yeah. Campbell had that walking back to the OJ was famous. And Jim Brown might have been the first guy that I remember hearing about doing this and mostly I heard that because OJ did it and the commentators would say, you know Jim Brown used to do this like walk back to the huddle like they got you beat. Right? It's like I'm dragging back and OJ had that and Campbell had that like a lot of the greats would sort of like. Oh, is he gonna make it all the way to the huddle and then he's back to come out of the huddle and he's get down in the stance and all the whole thing just looks or he's gonna put his hands on his thigh pads and he's just standing there and he looks completely exhausted and then they give him the ball again and he runs for 20 yards. They bend down. They bend down to get into their stance for the play like I do when I've dropped something and I don't get up right away. Yeah. And I'm just looking. I'm just trying to. Oh. And we make and we make the Uncle Richie noise.

Maybe they did too. Yeah, maybe you're okay. You're okay. You're behind damn. This hurts so much. Why did I dock go into agriculture? I had a farming family. I could have I could have been a banker. I could have been I could have been a late tech salesman. What am I doing out? Oh. Yeah. Yeah, right? Like they would say that about Jim Brown. It looked like he was always about to die after he got tackled and then he just sort of get on like I do when I get up. You get on the one knee and then you just push yourself up. Not just sort of step up or stand up. You sort of get on the one knee first and then put your arm down. Hand in the ground if you will and just push yourself. Push yourself to back into a standing position. Very one in my family or a standing family is listening. I mean the Uncle Richie thing as a tribute to him. I adored that man and like I'm not just he was the first person I remember that like getting into a chair

or out of a chair. There was always a noise. I thought this was a reference to the bear. No, this is an actual family. No, I got to my my my my my my aunt my mom's sister's husband Uncle Richie. Yeah. Okay. Interesting. Super good dude. Your mom's sister's husband. Yeah. Okay. Plus Uncle Richie. Uncle Richie. Yeah. Love it. Mike show up in the bulldog here 803-0550 to join us. This is WGR. People ask me all the time. Hey, do you still root for your old team? And I said, why wouldn't I? Of course I do. I mean the impact that you want to have as a head coach on a team and a community. That's one thing. But man, oh man, the impact that that team that building and that community had on me and my family. We'll remember that for the rest of our lives. That's a part of sports, right? The wins and the losses are important, but it's like the impact you leave or that is left on people and the fan base and them on you and that's the real part of sports.

Sean McDermott on with Rich Eisen. I am not close enough to him to know any of this, but I would say from almost a decade of listening to him and talking with him many times, he could be good at that if he wanted to sort of give into it. I mean, he could be good at it. It would be nothing. There'd be no hot take. Right. That we would hate him for anybody like that. You know, all the Stephen A. Smiths in the world, you just can never believe that they actually mean what they're saying. Sadly, the top McAfee, no interest. Like I just never believe what they're saying. It's just no. But here's a guy. I mean, who's more convincing than McDermott? You know, if he says something, as a coach, he sometimes was, many times, was reticent to overdo it, of course. But I think if he were willing to just sort of, you know what, I'm just

going to be real. I think you could be great if he wanted to. I think he could be right. I think he wants to, I think he's going to want to go back on field 100% in a coach. I mean, I provided the appropriate opportunity, you know, is available this off season. I can't foresee a scenario where he's not back coaching. Tom Lins made the jump. Tom Lins is part of this NBC Sunday night thing. He seems really good. Yeah, he seems good. I didn't, you know, they did some awkward stuff with him in my opinion anyway. At that Hall of Fame game, where like his first interview, they're like walking across the field. Like, just stop, stop, stop, stop walking, stop walking, stop walking. Sit down. Please sit down on the bench. I don't care. Wherever he had to go. But yeah, but maybe even Hill only do it for a year. This might just be a pit stop for him. But I don't know, but McDermott to me is, yeah, I don't think he's just going to take any job, though that said, I could be wrong though. I don't know. He maybe he, I mean, he gets a lot of credit

for turning the ship around here. Maybe he'd like to do that again. Would he be a great college coach or is it too dirty? I think probably too dirty. Okay, I think, yeah. Boy, I would hate that for him. His kind of messaging though. Yeah, like a big, doesn't matter how big. Yeah. College at Penn State or wherever, like, you know, couldn't that really work? Isn't that like, maybe a great stereotypically perhaps fit. I think it could. And certainly the money is good. And the big jobs are big jobs, but still he's, he's in the, he's in the NFL. I don't know if I think that all NFL jobs are above a job like that. And I think financially they're definitely not. No, I think that's right. That's right. But it's more status for being in, like, I feel like an NFL coach that goes back to college is going back to college because he is somehow damaged. Harmoa did it. Yep. One national championship at his alma mater. And he was not, he wasn't,

there was no, I don't know, he wasn't like, oh, he's got to go. I don't think he was damaged. There was no scandal, right? There was scandal in college. Well, that's inevitable. Certainly. Right. That's why I don't, yeah, you, where you started is where I think I end up. I cannot see McDermott integrating into that universe in any way shape. I might like action on this. We decided real quick and then to the phones. We decided once we had conversation about this once where he coaches next year. And you said it first. We both thought like the Eagles. Right. Were the team. They have to implode first. Yes, they do. And if they don't, I mean, there were 10 or so jobs that came open this year. But some of them stink. Is he going to be the coach of the jets? Right. Like, I don't know. I don't know if he's above that. Yeah. If he wants to do it, he'll do it. But a job like Penn State or some top, some power school would call,

like they would want to know if he's available. He would be a candidate. If he wanted such a job, he would easily be a candidate. I think that that's right. You want to put it on the board. I don't think he's, I, you think you'll never coach in college football? I don't want to say never. He could get 20 years from now after his next gig. Go like Bellaget, you know, just to sort of keep doing it or something. But I don't think his next job is at all going to be a college job. That I couldn't say because that depends on like what's available. And if he wants to work, however, there are only 32. He's not going to be an assistant, right? I need to be an assistant. What do he, what do he sooner be the, why do I keep saying Penn State? I don't know. I mean, they dumped their guy last year, right? Franklin. So maybe that's a, well, they probably replaced him. But anyway, hey, let me check. Yes. In fact, he does have a coach. Who is it? I don't know. I really didn't check. Matt Campbell. Thank you. Who's that? Former Iowa state head coach? All right. Well, I don't think Paul's guy. Yeah. I don't think McDermott goes to

Iowa state. No, me either. I think he would go to Penn State. Yeah. I don't think Eagles need to implode, by the way. It depends what you mean by implode. Like if they any sort of losing season. Okay. Well, okay. Definitely then. I think there's a scenario where they had the year they had when they lost a Tampa in the wild card. Right? That was a couple of years ago. That happened. They have that year. I think that that could be the end for Cereonis, especially if the quarterback stuff doesn't stabilize. Like what happened to McDermott? Kind of. You know, times up. Yeah. Right. Right. Here's Ryan with us. I Ryan. I think I know why you're thinking Penn State. I think it's this totally a vibe thing. He just looks like he would probably coach there. And I'm a huge McDermott fan. I can't deny that. Here in the, here in him, here in him, talk on the item show. I didn't hear that. So just now I miss him and quintuently enough. I'm calling to say our offense might be better without him because I was listening to you guys the other day.

And I think it was talked about, you know, player props over under touchdowns yards, all that stuff. And one point that doesn't get brought up a ton. I've heard it before, but not as much as I would imagine is our new defensive coordinator from what I understand is more feast or famine, which to me creates more possessions for our offense, which I think lifts everybody. Well, you know, I think you're right to say that it should be talked about. I think really for me, it's if it's not the same point, it's that they're going to play a tough schedule. And whether they want to or are forced into it, that there should be more volume passing, you know, potential for big days from their offense because of it. I don't think the bills or any team really wants that. They want the bills for the last two years are I think pretty classic example of it working perfectly for you, which is, you know, you've got a great quarterback,

but you want to keep them out of trouble. And you're running back plays every week in your offense of line. Everybody plays every week. And you know, you get home. This year, I think they'll have a much tougher time doing that with even with DJ more because of who they're playing. And maybe that's maybe it's a McDermott point. We'll see. But I'm expecting. Alan has come down and touched in touchdown passes five years in a row. It's kind of amazing that literally five years in a row. He's had fewer than the year before. I'm expecting that streak to end. I'm not sure I want to push in on over stats when it comes to any player because of injury risk and that. But yeah, I think it should it should look different this year, I think. Thanks, Ryan. What is this about Michael Gross? Oh, yeah, this is the Josh Jake. Sorry, this is not how I want to do it. There was a report today that Josh Jacobs initial court appearance. I won't mention his backup.

It's going to be about Marcia and Lohan. No, you said it. His initial court appearance was moved up a report from Michael Gross. And I wanted to write I wrote down on my notes today. The dad on family ties. Good pull. Yeah, that's exactly who that is. Michael Gross. Yes. He's out there reporting on Packer stuff. Yes, I think so. That's what happened to him. Yeah, I mean, I have you ever seen him anything else of a family ties. Nope. See when somewhere. I think he went to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. That's right. Was that were you a family ties guy? I was. We watched. Yeah, I wanted to be Alex P. Keaton. I mean, I wanted to be him. I didn't I never got that far. But yeah, we watched it regularly. I would say teeny others. That's that's that's that's a that's a different show. No, that's the little sister. Oh, really? Right? Some reason teeny others is the is one of the one of the who is the maid and the

the girls they lived in the townhouse. The facts of life. The facts of life. Was that like mostly girls? Mrs. Garrett. Mrs. Garrett. Right. Nancy McKinley. That's who Lisa Welchell. Lisa Welchell and teeny others have been the same person to me for 50 years. Not even kidding. Evidently. That happened. Yep. Mindy Cohn. Natalie. Tuti. Kim Fields. Tuti. Yes. Good job on the cast. That's a really good job on the cast. I don't think it I think this is one of those where you're better off not knowing it. Yeah. If I if I couldn't name any of the actors on the facts of life, wouldn't that have been better for me? I was glad that I was able to remember the show at least in the the maid or the what the housekeeper or whatever. You're right there with all the day Charlotte Ray. I remember liking that. I remember liking that Nancy McKinley. Did you? Yeah. Joe. Yeah. Yeah. Joe. Joe. Yeah. Yeah. She seemed cool. Yeah. So cool. Can't leave Justine Bateman out of this from family ties by

the way of Mallory. Good work. Good. Mike Schopen the Bulldog. This is WGR.
