82M Americans Cut Back on Needs for Health Care

A new survey reveals that 82 million Americans, or about one-third of adults, are cutting back on food, utilities, or other daily needs to pay for health care costs. This West Health Gallup poll from last year captured sacrifices like skipping meals, driving less, or barring money just to cover medical bills. Uninsured folks face the worst of it, with 62% making these tough choices, including 32% who borrow cash, and 24% who stretched out their medications. Even those with insurance aren't spared, as nearly 3 in 10 reported similar cutbacks amid rising premiums and out-of-pocket expenses. These financial pressures are forcing people to delay major life steps, like 25% putting off surgeries or treatments, 14%. Holding off on buying a home, 9% postponing retirement, and 18% skipping job changes. According to issues often worsened, leading to bigger problems down the line.
