シリア平原まで大軍団でやってきたペルシャ軍。ペルシャ軍の当初の作戦ではこの大平原でマケドニア軍を迎え撃つために、既にきっちり布陣していたんですけど、
アレクサンドロスの病気で一向に進軍して来ないマケドニア軍に焦れて、
マケドニア軍もついにダレイオス出陣と聞いて、怖気付いて逃げ出したんじゃないか？という噂が立ち始める。
それにあまりの大軍団ということもあり、あんまり悠長に待っていると補給が尽きる可能性がある。
