624: Americans HATE Each Other - And That's a Problem

The United States is often thought of as a melting pot, where people from all over the world come together and work together to build a better future. But it looks like that ain't happening anymore. According to a recent study, Americans are more divided than ever before, as the report found that over the past three decades, Americans have become increasingly segregated by political ideology.  This is especially true when it comes to social media. The study found that most Americans now surround themselves with people who think like them, and as a result, are less likely to seek out different perspectives or engage in meaningful conversation. So, what can we do about it? On today's episode, we go back to 2020 with my interview with Associate Professor of Philosophy Kevin Vallier joins the show to discuss his new book, "Trust in a Polarized Age". We dive into what exactly has changed in America and why it's causing us to distrust each other more than ever before. Kevin and I talk about the philosophical roots of our political polarization, why someone would want to live in a bubble, and how we can break out of it.
