1:00John is probably starting his golden gate review. John is almost John with his golden gate. That's good. That's good. Any minute now, he's going to get going. He's going to get going. Power through the weekend. I can't wait to install golden gate. I'm super excited to install golden gate. It is good. Yeah. That's why I don't mess around with Macbethers. Like I just don't want that in my life. And I'm really excited to install golden gate on Monday. You know, it's actually, you should have been on the beta. It's actually been more stable than Tahoe. I know. But I just, it's a grow. I don't want. Well, and I like to be excited about something for just in general. I like to be excited about a new operating system, right? Because like I've been using iOS the whole time. And then Monday will come around. And then I'd be like, well, I've used iOS the whole time. But now I'll get macOS. So that'd be nice and new for me. Yeah. Although I am also excited for app updates. Like app updates, going to start coming in. And we're going to see how good all bad Siri AI is at dealing with the pot. Yeah.

2:00So excited about super, super exciting. Lots of stuff going on. But it is September. You know what that means? It is childhood cancer awareness month. And each September, those of us in the relay community and our friends and people out in the Apple world, we come together to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. And this childhood cancer awareness month, we are on our way to passing $5 million raised as a community since 2019, which is absolutely amazing to me that we are very close to that number. So what does that number mean? What does that money do? Where does it go? Well, St. Jude treats children from around the world without regard of where they're from, they look like what they believe, whether or not they can pay or not. They treat them for free. And the research they do at the hospital, their campus here in Memphis is shared around

3:04the world. So you don't even have to be at St. Jude to benefit from St. Jude. I got an email last week from somebody whose niece had a cancer diagnosis and she was treated elsewhere in the US. But the doctors told them, hey, this research, like this protocol we're using was put together in conjunction with St. Jude, which is absolutely incredible. They share that research around the world. Since St. Jude opened in 1962, back then, childhood cancer was largely considered incurable. But since then, St. Jude has helped push the overall survival rate in the US from 20% to 80%. And they're not going to stop until no child dies from cancer. Each child deserves a chance to live their best life and celebrate every moment. And that's what this campaign is all about. The thing is me reading a document. The Ricky's is a game that connected host play before Apple Keynotes and at the beginning of a new year to predict future events. It's made up of three rounds. Each host makes two regular picks followed by a risky pick. The Ricky's by design values winning. Winners only shall advance. Gotta be good. G U D. Good. There are two types of Ricky's. Today we are scoring our Keynote Ricky's. The winner is named the Keynote Chairman that's currently Federico and this position is up for grabs today because we're scoring again.

6:11Hosts are introduced to the top of each episode according to our current titles. If you hold both positions, so Keynote and annual, you're the Ricky Benjamin. And after the Ricky's, we're going to play a game called the Flexes. The two games are separate, but they are related. Please stand for the reading of the rules. Each host gets to make two regular picks by default. Correct regular picks are awarded one point. The language used regular picks must be finalized and agreed upon during recording. If a host loses first place via coin flip, they earn a bonus pick for the next rickies. All bonus regular picks are worth half a point. We're caching in a bunch of those today because this is a new rule. Ricky picks have a more complex scoring system. Each host must make a pick with three supporting details. If you get all three details correct, you earn two points, two details correct earn you

7:15one point, one detail correct, you earn zero points, and if you get three details wrong, all of them wrong, you lose a point. And points are only awarded based on the details not the overall pick. Picks made for Keynote rickies cannot be reused by the host who made them for the next Keynote. All-hostar allowed to reuse picks previously made by others. For Keynote rickies, the scoring window starts when the livestream begins and closes when the picks are scored, which is right now. Any information used in scoring must be publicly verifiable at the time of recording. Scoring is completed during recording and cannot be modified once an episode is complete. And even of a tie, dice by peak elk must be used in relay mode to pick a winner. In case of a three-way tie, host all make their calls at the same time, with flipping continuing until the winner is named. Jason Snow previously had a lifetime ban of flipping any coins in relation to the rickies. However, he attended a graduated coin flip university during the 2024 Pocacethon, so now

8:18he can flip a coin, albeit under direct supervision. The order of picks is set by previous performance. The winner of the previous associated game goes first, the previous loser goes last. 9:20What's the issue? If a host loses first place for a coin flip, they earn a bonus regular pick in the next rickies. That reads like you have to use it the next time. But the way we're operating right now is that you can use it whenever you want within the year. Different types of bonus picks, man. Coin flip happens next time. Other ones choose them. Seems easy. Hmm. How do you earn those other bonus picks? You know how. Do I know how? Yeah. It's by having gotten things right in the annual. You just read it. Did I? I don't know. Oh yeah, I did. Okay, never mind. Maybe I skipped that paragraph when I read it. Yeah. I think here's the problem, Stephen. You, me and all the listeners, no one's listening to the part where you read the rules anymore. That's why it's a zone chapter. No one is listening to it. No one is listening to it. 10:22and put it in. Oh, sure. Yeah. But anyways, now we can start. Okay. Round one. Okay. I guess I'm up. You are. I said the new foldable iPhone does not have a face ID. Correct. Yeah. It's a. It's touch ID and Apple watch unlock, which I am really curious about because like my first reaction was oh, yeah, it's going to be touch ID inconvenient. Sure, they showed off like the placement of the thumb and they thought about it and it should be fine. But still over the past nine years, we've gotten used to having face ID, which is so convenient right compared to touch ID. But then in the press release, they mentioned and also I think in the video, they said, oh, you can also unlock it with your Apple watch. Now if that's fast and good enough, I probably like, is that actually going to be better than face ID even?

11:22No. No, right? Because there's latency. Well, I also, I mentioned this before, I turned this back on again because I wanted to get the experience of it again. And let's stay changed the way on the Mac, on the Mac, you mean? No, on my phone, you can do it on the iPhone. Yeah, they added this, this was a COVID thing. They added this to deal with this is one of the ways that it was on the Mac first time. So I turned it back on again because I wanted to just get a feeling for how often it happens to me because it does, right? Like your face ID fails or whatever and it tries to unlock. Now the thing with the face ID phones is that watch unlock only ever occurs after a failed face ID, right? Like it can't find your face for whatever reason. So it would trigger. Now if that's the case with the touch ID, it's like it's not an elegant experience because it takes time to happen. It's not like a media. Now they may have kind of reorganized the authentication method here that makes it faster,

12:26right? Because they're calling it out specifically. So maybe the iPhone duo calls out to your watch more frequently and quicker as a way to unlock. But at least with the current iPhones, like the 17 pro, like it is not a elegant experience for the app watch unlock because the better one is face ID. So we'll see how beneficial that is or not. But I guarantee you, it's not going to be as seamless as you want it to be no matter what happens because what you want is face ID and the same thing. Yeah. Yeah. I, I'm realizing now that I have a problem with all of these COVID features. I have completely forgotten about them. Like there's a lot of time. It was a strange time. There was a lot of weird stuff in technology going on. Like someone remind, I was watching a listening to a watch in a podcast recently and they referenced the contact tracing thing. Yes. I had this moment a couple of weeks ago, my time. Which, that wasn't what they called, was that what they called it at first contact tracing exposure notification? No, I think exposure notifications is what it ended up being called because contact

13:30tracing made people think that everyone was being spied on. And somebody made this in reference to the idea of like Apple and the EU, I think because like I think this was a time when like Apple tried to do this thing with collaboration with Google and governments got annoyed at them. But they were like, hey, we're just trying to do this thing and it ended up being like a whole big mess. So there you go. Okay. Can we just take a quick pause for a minute because there's an alarm going on in the hallway? And I want to go turn it off. It's fine. Someone's left the door open and it's, it will probably go on for the entire show. But that's what you think. We'll just, we're just going to hang out here. That's true. Maybe there's an alien. Yeah. Federico, did you see anything about left handed use? Nope. Nothing. It's weird, right? Nothing. The only thing that gives me hope is that iOS does have support for flipping the UI for example, when you use an Arabic language, I think they can shift to not just the text,

14:37but the entire iOS interface like in the opposite direction. Right. Yeah. And so in theory, it should be possible. I don't know if they've done it in time for the duo. That's not my show. We're talking about left handed people not being able to buy this phone. I still don't think that maybe this is the problem people think it's going to leave anyway. Brown team. Are we in the show? All right, my round one pick. The foldable is called the iPhone Ultra. There's been some discussion this week about what a future folding iPhone would be named.

15:38I'm putting a flag in the ground here today on September 2nd, 2025. Colin bold the iPhone ultra period. That is very confident man. His name is Stephen Hacker. He wrote this blog post on his website 512 pixels. Oh, September 2nd, 2025. Why with a franchise? You know what? Yes, yes, it's a lipid. You know, lipid sales. I thought I would fancy it up a little bit. Stephen, how are you feeling? That's very good. You were so confident, man. I never wrote that. That's. Oh, did you know? I mean, I've got it right here. In fact, you updated it yesterday. So it's not true. Oh, okay. Would you also would you also read what a certain someone on this program said in January 2020? Yeah. Where would I find that? It's further down to the document. Oh, is it? His first detail of his Ricky for the annual is called the iPhone Duo.

16:41And you guys tried to make me change my mind so much. Did I? Well, one of you did. Probably. When? When was this? I feel like you've created. He's crazy. This was in January and I had to fight you know for it. Yes. Wait, so I'm in there. In my mind, you're suggesting in the pic that you made, we tried to convince you of something before it was wrong. Yes. Yes. I'm sure. I'm sure you did. At least in my mind, that's how it went. But now, I mean, obviously, Stephen, it's not called the ultra. It's not. And I'm just, honestly, like, I mean, beyond the, you know, the contest and the points, we'll get to that next year. I'm just kind of amazed that I pulled that name out of nowhere six months. No, nine months ago. We're in September. Very happy with myself, actually.

17:42I don't know. It's a great name. You know, for all the reasons that I said nine months ago, it's three letters. It's short. It conveys the idea. It's two things in one. Obviously, in hindsight, it goes well with Neo. You know, got Neo, duo, you know, it's got a whole sort of naming style thing going on. And I think it's a lovely name. It is a good name. It is a great name. I agree. It's a great name. A good name. Mike. Mike. I'm looking, I'm currently looking through the transcript to that episode. And I've just, I want to play maybe from here. Can I do that? Yeah, let's see. Because basically there's been a lot of back and forth, right? There's conversation about other products, PowerBook duo, MagSafe duo, Mac mini, cord duo. These are all coming up in the transcript. And it's come around to somebody says Federico Goodpole, I've come around to this now.

18:43And I just want to see who this is. Because whoever this is, Federico, this is the person that truly backs you. So should we see who that was? Yeah, I think it's you, Mike. I don't know. Yeah. Yes, me, man. So Federico was always on your side. Steven's doing ultra over there. No, he's the one. Thank you, Mike. Thank you, Mike. No, no, but, but just think how sick it would have been if I was right. No, because it wasn't that unique. So many people were calling it ultra. You know, I think even back then, like in January, maybe if you would have said it in January, that might have been like pretty cool. Maybe like January of 25. Yeah, because when did you write this off September of 25? September of 25. Oh, I mean, yeah, January of 25, that would have been pretty sick. What if I was going back some way, huh? What if I'd, yeah, what if I'd written it in 2017?

19:45I mean, like if in 2017, you would even call, you said Apple will make the folding iPhone. It's called the iPhone Ultra. I would be very impressed even though it wasn't true. Maybe use your time travel powers for good, you know, not just. I'm just happy that they didn't call it the Ultra. I would have been so insufferable if they would have called it the Ultra that I think we were all one really, like because nobody has to hear me complain. We were going to cry, baby, about it. I was going to really complain about it because I would have been very upset. But at least the finance max saves, so don't have to complain about that. My first round pick is John Tonus introduced his folding iPhone by saying we have one more thing. It was so excited, right? Yeah. It was just like, oh, and he did it on the Steve Jobs stage too. Pretty nice. Pretty cool. Super cool. We talked a lot more about John Ternus in the pro show. I think Apple did a good job in here with like the right nods to legacy and customs and

20:49that sort of thing. Yeah. Yeah. I think it was very nice. Very nice. Well, without it, it didn't feel cringey or corny. Like it felt authentic. The product was warranting. Like it warranted it. Mm-hmm. I don't remember what it was now, but like I know Tim Cook did one once and it was like, what do you do? Oh, Apple music. We spoke about it, right? Yeah. Apple music was a one more thing. The worst one or thing. And then Drake came out. Wasn't it that moment? Yeah, it was like an hour long. Remember? Yeah, Drake came out on stage with an Apple jacket. That's right. Yeah. Thank you. Kiss the sky. Yes. No. That's the original. Oh my god. What a time. This is the one at a Q Dance Dance at the laptop. Yes. They really feel him for time in the keynote. He blew the kiss to Dead Steve Jobs the first time they were on the Steve Jobs theater. I'll never forget it. Oh, really? It wasn't. Oh, good. Okay. Okay, cool.

21:49Which would have been the actual sense event. That does make more sense. It's really old, none. It's many years later. He's still like, okay. Good. Good. Okay, at the end of Round 1, Federico has one point. Mike has one point and I have zero points. Round 2. Okay. Round 2. There is no telephoto camera in the foldable. Yeah. Yep. Main camera and ultra wide. Ultra wide. It's, I read today that it's basically the same camera as the 17-E. Which, you know, dance. It's fine. It's fine. I mean, I know that I will suffer. I know that I will, hey, maybe I will become one of those people with two iPhones and use that the iPhone Handoff feature if my carrier supports it. Really. Good luck. What do you mean the same camera as the 17-E? Isn't it the same camera? Where did I see it? It's all done. What's it called? iPhone Duo, Mac rumors?

22:50Maybe iPhone Duo. Same camera as 17-E. iPhone 2 hours ago. iPhone Duo has similar main camera to 17-E. According to Apple's text page, well, so it's not a match, but it's pretty similar. Not even. Is it the 17? No, the 17-E. 17-E. 17-E. 17-E. Yeah. You know, it's, you know, numbers, whatever it means. Like, stop. 1.6. You know. You know, 26 millimeters. This whole thing, like this is allowing me to tangent, but this whole thing with the numbers in the camera has gotten out of hand. Yes. I mean, I understand why if you know what it means, more power to you, you must love this numbers. To me, this is the same problem.

23:50So let me just say this. They should make a consumer version of this that it's like good, better, best. Like use simple terms, simple words, icons. I don't know, symbols, whatever. To indicate, like, I don't want to read like a bunch of algebra if I want to take a good picture with my iPhone, you know, because I don't know whatever these means. Obviously, I want to take great photos, but I'm not a photographer. He reminds me of the problem that companies like OpenAI have, for example, when they need to show you all these settings, all these configuration flags. And I think they are landing in a pretty good spot. Like if you are a power user, like I can open codex in my terminal, and I can, you know, I can understand all the terminology. I can understand all the options. In chat GPT for regular people, they simplify it. It's the same technology, but it's presented in a consumer friendly way. This, the camera, it's getting out of hand for regular people.

24:54Like you show, you show somebody. Yeah, but I think you just made the example though, right? That like what are the things that OpenAI show? I don't understand what's going on, but you do. Exactly. Right. But that's what I mean. But like in the same way, there are camera professionals that understand what they're saying. Yes. Yes, but Apple is only, it's only designing for them. That's my problem. Like you open the camera app, and it's like it's a bunch of numbers, a bunch of symbols. Okay, I have no idea what that weird F stands for. Yeah. I mean, I had a similar thing where they were showing the example photos. And it's like, look how good this one is because of this. And I'm like, yes, sure. Yes. I guess it does look like a great photo, but like I don't know why it's a good photo. But I also accept though that that part, it's not for me. It's just not for me. I cannot believe that I'm saying this, but bear with me. Like they should put like, you know how in charge of your own cloud, whatever, that you have like the reasonings lighter. And it's like, like light medium, smart, extra intelligent.

25:58Well, I just like that. No, the way to show it is a photo. Just show what it would be with a different set settings that UI gets out of hand in a hurry. No, no, no, no, no UI, not a UI. Like show me in the keynote, this is what the image is with this. And this is what the image is now because of we've added this and that. Maybe. Look, look, it's a tough problem because because like I understand why you're doing this, you want to show that the iPhone can be a serious camera. And you need to, you need to prove your worth to professionals who know if you are a fraud or not, right? And so you need to speak their language. But there is also the realistic situation, which is that this video and this product is not for camera professionals, right? Right. Like it is actually for everyone, but they spend a lot of time with this camera dragon, which is hard to follow. And it's, I mean, it's not actually a professional camera. It's just a camera that professionals can use.

26:59Yes, it's unnecessary that when I tap on the 1x and 2x buttons on my phone, actually no, just the 1x, I see 24 millimeters, 28 millimeters, 35 millimeters. Like, well, but at least when you do that, though, you see something happening. Like that's the benefit there. So it's like, it doesn't really matter what the label is. If you get an indication of what it's doing, you see that it is doing like minimal zooms in each of those kind of, yeah. If it just gave you like a drop down, right? It's like, just choose one of these. That would be a nightmare, you I think. Like it is that is, it's why it's like in the phone itself, when you use these things, it is more understandable. If you can see that something is occurring, I think it becomes difficult in the keynote when they're like throwing these numbers at you and they have these like info boxes on the right hand side, right? Which you give a bunch of readouts. And it's like, I can't really do anything with this information. There are people that absolutely are excited about it.

28:01Like this, this part of the marketing story, I think gets really lost. But there is also a scenario where it's like, well, that is the exact point that they don't want to give you comparisons because like, how different is it? Can the regular person even see the difference anyway? Like, and that's probably how they end up in this point. I mean, 27 does add the control customization, but I agree with you. Most people don't know what those controls do. Yeah. Right. Give me the controls, but like, I don't know how to use them. Yeah. Like, I don't know what they do. What if in the camera app, a little character came out, like maybe she had like a paper clip. She could see through him. Yeah. She's like, Hey, it looks like you're trying to take a macro photo. Let's do this. Don't Apple, you can have that one for free. Should vibe code it? Hmm. Go on camera app. Could be camera. Yes, Stephen. Number two, round two, my pick.

29:01The Apple Watch series 12 includes a ceramic option. Yeah, baby. Yes. I got it. Eme. Let's go. What color? White. Yeah, but it's not white. Yes, it is. What is it? What is it? It's like creamy. Yeah. Off white. Stephen. Yeah. There is a whole spectrum of white. Yes. Like, you've painted houses before. Like, you know, white is not white. Like a thousand white. Very fascinating comment coming from you, Stephen, of all people with all the computers that you've collected over the years. You know, they're all the same way. They're all the same way, are they? I just, I wanted to love it. And I want to see it in person. I really do. Maybe in person, I'll fall in love with it. But the, the other color, like the blue navy, it is not for me. But I like the way that it looks. I think. I never would have thought you would have wanted the white one. Oh, man, back in the day, back when I was young and cool, stainless steel Apple watch

30:03white band. That was my look for years. Yeah, but, yeah, but I'm talking about a white Apple watch, no, no, no white band. Yeah, but I just, but it's, you know, maximum, something, and it's something different, right? Like, I usually bounce between iPhone colors. So it feels new, right? I'm just trying to feel something. I don't think, yeah, no, I got it. Federico, you were aware of the little, there's a little, there is actually a, a, I don't know why they're doing it this way, but there is a, there is an option you're supposed to choose, but they don't make it clear with the band choice. Do you know what I'm talking about? Did you see his text message that he had to step away for a second? No, obviously not. Okay, now it's me and you, Matt's our turn to do it. No, no, yes. 31:03else. Listen as I apologize, because I've asked this question and in a minute, my Federico returns, we're gonna ask it again. I'm here, I'm here. Hello, Federico. There is a choice that you're supposed to make with the, with the Apple Watch ceramic. Do you know what this choice is and did you make it? I think I know what you mean. You're supposed to get a specific watch band so that you get the ceramic pin. Yeah, did you do it? I don't know. So the sand sport band has a ceramic pin. I got it, that's what I got. Yeah, me too. I didn't know and I found out during upgrade. But it's like this is the obvious choice for me because what I wanted was to emulate the old one where it came with the white sport band with the ceramic pin. I think I did, right? Hold on, hold on. This is the one to go for if you're going to go for a sport band. Sport band sand, yes, yes. Yeah, okay.

32:03It was obviously the best one. It is, yeah, it's the best choice. I'm looking forward to going to the Apple Store to look at other bands because I'm not really a sport band where anymore. So I want to look at some other stuff that they've got and see what else works with it. But like this was the band that I had to get if I was going to get this one. The mini-scuse of the ceramic have been pushed out to October now. And even if I wanted one, I want to see it, but I can't have it for pickup at my Apple Store. The closest Apple Store that it will let me pick up and store at all is like three hours away. Maybe it saved you them. Maybe, maybe it did. I did buy Mary a watch, but the aluminum one, which I'm actually excited about. She likes just like the silver aluminum, like the simple look. But she always gouges the screens in hers. And right now is like a huge, I cannot believe the screen's not broken.

33:05She's tough on stuff. I mean, she's a teacher. She works out. She does all these things. Anyway, so I haven't told her, but I got her a series 12 because the aluminum now has the ceramic shield too on the front. So I think it'll hold up much better for her. Mm-hmm. Which is a great addition to the aluminum, because forever, if you wanted the aluminum, due to price or weight, because it's way lighter than the others, you were stuck with the eye on glass, which wasn't as robust. 40:12like I'm just going to assume that most people can take that. Let's assume that if you're regularly buy a two terabyte iPhone on an annual basis, you have the disposable income to make it happen. Yes. I think it's a reasonable assumption. And I think that that's how they've scaled it. And it's interesting that both the pro and the regular phones start at $100 more. But I think that that is just a sign of what people are buying. People are buying one of those. And so it's gone up by 100. And I think all things considered $100 is a good price increase. We're going to have to have had one. It's a number that makes sense. Yeah. And the watches stayed the same. We'll get to my bonus pick here. But when the prices were the same, they called it out. Like I noticed several times they were like, and it's the same price as the previous one. Yeah. I don't envy any company dealing with Ramageddon. That's for sure. 41:13My first bonus pick, the ceramic Apple Watch Series 12 starts at $7.99, $100 more than the Series 11 titanium. So a couple of things happened here. One, people reminded us that the first ceramic watch was like many hundreds of dollars more than the series. And then I missed it by $100. So it's $200 more than the titanium. They were very bold colors. And I just find it a shame that they went very bold again. I mean, in a color I don't like, which is the problem. I'm not a fan of the burgundy. And then the blue is just like, it honestly feels like what they used to do rather than what they have been, like what it feels like they'd started to do. Agreed. I'm just a little bit disappointed. It does feel like a bit of a step back. Yeah. Okay. My second bonus pick, the iPhone Air is not updated. Yeah. We'll see it in the spring, hopefully.

45:17So yeah. And they didn't say anything about them, right? They said, oh, we've updated our whole line. He's like, well, just the price. I am curious if we will see this at all and their quarterly earnings. I don't think we will. One, the pro phones sell more on the front end, right? Because they're the enthusiasts. They're selling a $2,000 phone, which will obviously move the earnings more than an A iPhone. Stephen the iPhone Air is not affecting the earnings. No, I mean, I meant the like the, the, I know, updating the mainline phone. I forgot to do something yesterday, which is to look up the Italian prices of the iPhone duo. Oh, do it live. Oh, no. I know it's bad in Australia. I see. Oh, is it? Okay, starting with the 256 version, that would be 2,369 euros.

46:19Nice. Then 2,619, the one terabyte, 3,199. And the 2 terabyte, this is just heartbreaking, 3,800, and 6,9 euros. That is $4,497. Wow. I think I just got a heart attack. Oh, my God. That's brutal. No. I mean, it's not that different in the UK either. So the, the, the, the two terabyte is 3,199 pounds, which is $4,300. I mean, we have sales taxes. 51:26I have a cat. No, you know, Mike sometimes this happens to me that like I realized that I'm falling asleep with my phone. Yeah, but that's fine. But this person has arranged their phone into a tent. Right. Maybe you are a very functional half-sleeper or something. That's sure. I don't know. It could be. Anyway, so the condition number two, users can peek through at one side of the inner display by slightly opening the device. You can. I mean, the whole thing that is going viral now is the animation that Apple is designing. I think because of that animation, you get this point. Yeah. And this is partly because I need to admit to something. I am obsessed by this animation. Oh, it's so good. For 24 hours, it is all I can think about. And I cannot stop watching videos on Instagram of people opening these phones. I am obsessed by it. It's one of the most impressive things I've ever seen from like a little detail.

52:28It's unbelievable. And I have a theory about some of the thinking that went into how they modeled this the look of it. What it reminds me of is eyesight. It reminds me of the eyesight thing in the Vision Pro. That like blurriness of the way that the eyes look. It's got a similar kind of look to it. Like when you open it, it kind of goes a weird blur. And like, anyway, that's not an important thing. But nevertheless, I am just like, I cannot stop thinking about this animation. It's so impressive. If you think about it, it's the most skewomorphic thing that Apple has done in a while. Yeah. Yeah. And it looks like magic. It actually looks like magic. It's unbelievable. I got this funny text from O.T.J. today. Okay. Where is it? Hold on. Let me scroll up. I already feel bad for him. You know? He sent me a link about this animation. And he said exactly why Apple was never going to reverse course on liquid glass.

53:31I mean, that's it. That's a whole thing. Well, I will take you a step forward. Say the entire UI of the duo in Japan. It's like the entire thing that I wrote about last year about liquid glass, like set aside the glass. Just think about the liquid and think about how it's minimizing the UI. Without that UI, there's no iPhone duo. And the movement, the fact that you're like your tab bars become buttons and they go over to the right hand side. Yeah. All of this was needed for them to be able to produce this phone. Right. But how do we love to complain about liquid glass? But I also feel like we all knew that though anyway. Right? I think we all knew that they were going to be doing a big redesign partly to support this product. But people just didn't like it. And I would just like to say, one of us did not complain about liquid glass. I have, I've never had a problem with it. I had the, I think the only positive review on liquid glass last year. But if I would have written my thoughts down, I would have actually, I did.

54:33I did write them down. I've wrote something on my blog about how much I liked it when everyone was upset about it. Yeah. Anyway, what was I saying? So in addition to the animation, that is absolutely beautiful, whatever they're doing, there's also the fact that you can replicate this yourself if you are a developer and you want to enable this kind of function ID. There's a couple of things. The system can monitor the state of the hinge and there's a continuous angle API. This is exactly what I said last week. These code references that were found all the way back in June. They're actually developer sessions that you can watch now on the Apple website, which are really good. They're really good. They show off these funny examples. You can put together a little guitar playing app and you do, you do like, you use the two screens to do like the whammy effects of the guitar. It's really funny. But that's what you can do.

55:33You can have your app react to the state of the foldable device and the sort of the proportion, whatever you want to call it, the angle of the two screens. So I think we are about to enter a really fun era of some developers having fun with this idea, especially when you come. I think it's going to be like, it's this killer recipe. I think this very moment of this brand new device and vibe coding. I think there's going to be an explosion of silly apps for the iPhone duo. And I'm going to get all of them to be honest. You'll be patient. You'll download all of them and you'll try them all. Yes. So I want to note at this moment that not only has Federico clean-sweaked, I think this is probably the highest scoring performance in Ricky's history. Yeah. Five points. Because of the bonus picks. So the plastic case is two pieces and you put one on the front and one on the back. The folio case has a kind of expanding spine in the middle of the two that like retracts and expands as you open and close the phone. And you're supposed to just like flip the thing around to the back when you're using the front screen. It is a peculiar product, I think. Also it's tech woven. Tech woven lives on. Yes, that thing is continuing to do what is doing. I expect there will be lots of lots of lots of kicks down like products that will be available on the phone. Yeah. Yeah. I think this is a case was found though, like the air is. No case. Yeah. Good luck, everybody. So I showed my wife the duo video last night. Okay. I like to just get her opinion on things, right? Like colors and features and whatnot.

58:36And I fully expected to show her the duo thing and her to tell me that it was stupid and that no one needed, no one needs it. No one needs a phone that's really an iPad. And the opposite occurred. She was like, this is really cool. And now she, she wins to the price. But then she was like, well, if you don't buy an iPad, you just have one device like pretty cool. And so not what I expected. She's not interested in it for her. But I think when I get one in next month that she will definitely want to spend some time with it really surprised me, really surprised me. You said about the iPad. None of you reacted to the TikTok that I sent you. Well, I wanted to save it for the show. Actually, yeah. I brought it up. So Apple's back at it and they posted a TikTok and it is just like a, it is just a table, a meal on it and a candle. And there's an iPhone sitting on one side and then I had many sit on the other side. And it says iPhone Duo, they're making up.

59:38I love it. That's the whole thing. That's it. And it's just the candle's just moving. There's some music playing. Man, I respect the TikTok marketing team. Apple's so much, so much is brilliant. Is brilliant. It's good. It's good. They're doing the thing. Okay. So Federico, clean sweep, five points. Now it's my turn. Yeah. Apple introduces a new expanded home initiative. So I just I feel like this home stuff is like it's out there. It's like right there. Okay. So my mind was the folding phone has touch ID. That's congratulations to me. I got it right. But also offers a new version of Face ID powered by just cameras. Apple says this is powered by Apple intelligence and is a beta. They publish information. It shows it's whatever. In none of it's right. Look, I was very confident in this wasn't the case. But like if I was right though, you know, it would have been so good. And sometimes you've just got a you've got to shoot your shot with these and I did and I failed spectacularly. But my other pick wouldn't have got me any points either. So, you know, yeah.

And they did the thing that I, so they all have ANC now, which is great. It is $20 difference between the two and the better one has volume controls on the stem and wireless charging in the case. Like they're still needlessly separating these things.

1:10:00Just have one set of AirPods. Yeah, but do you want them to make the price more expensive? I mean, I guess the base price is still better. I don't know. Yeah, I think that's the reason, right? Otherwise, they would do it. But I think that like those things do cost money, I'm sure. Right? Separate them out. What do you two both use for AirPods at the moment? Pro two, pro three. You use the current pros. Stephen, what are you using like, AirPods one or the Pro two? Oh, okay. So you are in pro, why didn't, would you go to these? We just talked about this. No, the three, the pro three didn't really work for me. Why did we talk about it now? Didn't we talk about the show recently? I mean, yeah, but I don't remember these. You, the amount of times you have changed the AirPods that you use. That's not true at all. I went from the AirPods to the Pro's to the Pro two. Very linear. During none of those times, you have not bought and returned a pair of AirPods.

1:11:01I know, I tried the three pros and I didn't, they didn't work for me. Right, this is what I'm saying. So I can't remember, like I can't remember what you don't have a spreadsheet. Not for that. I wanted to, I'm gonna try, I ordered a pair to see what they're, see what they're like. Does I feel like that might be pretty good for you, right? Could be, could be, because I'm definitely aware that I'm on bar time in Pro two, Lambda. Yeah. Yeah. My last three were my alternates for my risky pick. In a memoriam, if you think about it, what is video, but 30 pictures per second.

1:12:02So you really got the guy fast driving a car and then, you know, walking towards the camera. Oh, is that, was that Tim in the car, you think? I think it's supposed to be. Wasn't that implied? Yeah. I just thought it was the narrator. No, I think it was, it was him. And then he was fast driving the car to Apple Park. Yeah, yeah, because he like drives into the garage and then you see him walking. Yeah, it's Tim. OK. No, I mean, that makes sense. I didn't put that together. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Um, and then my last one, they explain Tim's not going anywhere. Well, they actually kind of did the opposite, right? Where he like, he walks off into the sunset guy. It's like, you don't walk me anymore. And the memoriam plays again. So I have been extremely consistent on today's episode. I have scored the lowest possible score without scoring zero. And so that's pretty good. Actually, I have one out of eight for that's pretty impressive for 12.5%.

1:13:04Wolf, not I'm just going to get my credit card out now. So, um, Federico, some of yours are ungraded still because I'm not quite sure. Yeah, because it's a, these, these, these kind of stuff. I'll always comes back to bite me because there's no way to verify. Yeah. We'll see. Anyway, number one, there is no action button on the foldable. This is heartbreaking. It is. They kept camera control. No, no, what they should, though, what they should do here. You just have a, you know, you use camera control as an action button. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yesterday, during upgrades, Zoe and this goal was like, like, you should just vibe code a camera app to do, to set up the shortcut you want, which is a really good idea. Like, oh my god. Yes. And it's a camera. And I could just, it can just set off a shortcut. That's what I wanted to do. Oh my god. Yes. Okay. That's fantastic. Number two, both iPhone 18 Pro models have a smaller dynamic island than their predecessors.

1:14:05Yep. Yes. Oh, how wild is it that the camera, the selfie camera's under the screen? I know, right? I know. But it's a terrible camera, though. I don't know if you've seen any like MKBHD's video. He shed some video from the camera. It is a real bad. It's bad. It's fine for a FaceTime camera. Like it's fine. There's a reason other people have tried this and moved away from it. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Where are we? Number three. So there will be fold state automation triggers in shortcuts. There's no way to know. And obviously nobody going to the hands on events is going to open shortcuts and check for automation triggers. Right. Number four, the new fold. This is actually wrong. The new foldable iPhone ships with a brand new multitasking system that lets you have independent docs on the outer and inner display with fewer or more icons. No, they just showed you a doc with four apps. And it just hits on the side.

1:15:07And that's it. This should have been my risky. And then I changed my mind. And obviously I went for the clean sweep. Number five, there's no way to verify at least a portion of this. I'm just going to say that it's wrong. You can drag apps into view from either the doc like on an iPad or spotlight from the dynamic island. I think they only show that you can drag from the home screen. Yeah. So which makes me feel like you can do this. But they just haven't shown it. I think it's probably going to work from spotlight, but they didn't. Yeah, they didn't show it. Number six, the foldable supports drag and drop for content between apps in split view. This was in the keynote video. Yeah. Was a demo. Number seven, Siri AI is demoed again. Indeed. Was it indeed? I liked it. I liked the demo. Like I think they showed a bunch of additional useful things that you can.

1:16:08And so yeah. Yeah. Number eight, Siri AI on the foldable can open two apps at once. I think it's going to work, but there's no way to verify. Yeah. I think you can ask Siri AI to open this and it's going to do it. I assume that on the duo, you can say open Safari and notes, it'll do it, but I don't have a duo. So we don't know who knows. They did bring the app pairing. And I think it's pretty clever the way they do it. We're used like the center of the screen to glue them together. Yes. And so that's cool that that's there. Like I feel like they, again, we haven't used it, but I feel like they did a pretty good job at like taking what what you would want from iPadOS to something like this. Right. It's simpler than iPadOS. I think in some ways it's like iPadOS was like three years ago or something. But I think in practice, it's going to work pretty well. Yeah.

1:17:09Okay. That brings me to four out of eight. Even I can do that. That's 50%. That is. You're right. All right. So here we go. Number one, Tynas does not wear Nike shoes. Is this correct? He's not wearing like shoes. Tynas does the majority of the folding phone presentation. This is not just red, but it's like how do you define majority in time? I don't, I don't think it was. It's not the majority against other people or against time itself. You mentioned the folding phone presentation. Yeah. During that part of the keynote, he absolutely is doing the majority of it. Compared to anybody else. Like he spends more time than any other singular person. No, no, they have Craig. They have jaws. They have a ball in it. What? Ballion it. Fairly come on. There's an entire minutes of them talking about the stuff and he did way more.

1:18:09No, I find whatever. I'm not going to argue. I don't care enough. The folding iPhone allows to iPhone size apps side by side, not iPad apps. Yeah, it's correct. The A20 is a two-nanometer chip. That is correct. We see a video showing the folding phone going through durability testing. We didn't. We got a lot of information about it, but we did. A video. See if you did. But they did the whole thing like the opening scene was like on the beach. And Sand famously kills folding phones. I just thought that wasn't a touch. That was funny. Yeah, I could see where they were going with that, like which was it's pretty funny. So my next one is John Turner's Walks out in stage live. Now, no, it wasn't live. Yeah, I know. Then Turner, if they have ones in everyone's stage, so like one, it doesn't matter. They're all wrong. We don't even need to hear them. Do we even need to hear them? Read them. I read mine. Turner says how much of them I was taking when I was seeing it feels to be on the stage. There's live audience in attendance. We see three out of eight needs to find C, you know, like, you know, three out of eight.
