6 Air Force Members Killed in Iraq Crash

0:00In Durham, it's March 16th, and here's what is going on. The Pentagon has identified the six Air Force members killed when a KC-135 refueling plane crashed in Western Iraq on Thursday. The crash happened around 2pm, eastern time during a combat mission called Operation Epic Fury. Three of those killed were from the six Air refueling wing at McDill Air Force Base in Florida. They included 33-year-old Major John Cleaner from Auburn, Alabama, 31-year-old Captain Ariana Savino from Covington, Washington, and, and, 34-year-old Technical Sergeant Ashley Pruitt from Bardstown, Kentucky. The other three served with the 121st Air Refueling Wing at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base near Columbus, Ohio. They were 38-year-old Captain Seth Kovall from Moore'sville, Indiana, 30-year-old Captain Curtis Enkst from Wilmington, Ohio, and, 28-year-old Technical Sergeant Tyler Simmons from Columbus, Ohio. 1:03National Guard. He shared his condolences for the loss during their deployment. A second KC-135 tanker was involved, but landed safely over friendly airspace. Officials say it was not due to enemy or friendly fire, and the cause remains under investigation. KC-135 crews trained for emergency exits, but lack parachutes or ejection seats.
