1959年3月27日，在原西德的多特蒙德，第25届世界乒乓球锦标赛正式拉开帷幕。
这一届比赛，有38个国家240多名优秀选手参加，规模空前，但这并不是值得中国人铭记这届比赛的理由。
这一届的世乒赛，之所以能在中国体育史乃至中国现当代史上留下一笔，是因为在这一届比赛上，新中国拿到了属于自己的第一个世界冠军。
为国家捧回这座冠军奖杯的人，名叫容国团。
那一年，他才21岁。
