これは、フィリッポスが軍事遠征で首都を留守にしがちなので、代理が欲しかったのと、アレクサンドロスにそれだけの期待をかけているのと、
不仲であるオリュンピアスが出張ってきて政治をやられて、国を乱される心配もあったので、アレクサンドロスをオリュンピアスより上の立場に付けて牽制する狙いもあったという説もある。
