49ers-Rams Australia Game LIVE Recap

0:00He cooks up on third and goal. Purdy and time. Evans touchdown. He ripped it away from Watson. And the first Purdy to Evans connection to the end zone in Australia. Noah Eagle on the call. Always kind of looks like he's up to no good. He's in the booth with no. Blue Kickley who sounds exactly like move to sticks. Yeah. And that was messing with me all game. But it was the 49ers who truly messed with the Los Angeles Rams. At the big G. In Australia, final score, San Francisco 27, Los Angeles 7. And it played out exactly like it sounded with the Niners.

1:01Really controlling this game from the jump. Dan Hansess here. Mark Sessler. Connor Orr. Justin Graver on the one's and twos. It's a long day. You already in your feeds. If you're a true heat in this, you have the preview locked and loaded. You're going to get a Friday, Friday fun show in the morning. We did the live recap of Pat Seahawks and a little bit later. Tonight we will get to some fallout from that particular game. We have people in the chat right now and good to see everybody back again. And I guess Mark, a way to get into this is let this game be a reminder. Because I know there's going to be plenty of discourse about the game being in Australia and how much that played into how this played out and how much to take from it. But it's good to have a game like this. And I think we're all on the Niners as being in a pretty good place. I think we all picked them to make the playoffs. Mark, you have them making the division, winning the division.

2:01And it's just good to be sometimes keep certain things in perspective. That the 49ers with Kyle Shanahan and Brock Purdy and all those talented players on both sides of the ball, despite the chaos of the offseason. There's plenty to like about this team and seeing it all on the field at the same time. I don't know, I don't take too much out of the ramp side of it. We'll get to that. But I put a lot into what we saw from the Niners today. They're still a thing. I totally agree. You know, it's like I think we forget when it comes to Kyle Shanahan. You were raised by Mike Shanahan. Who was a mother f***er? Who was a dark soul? Right. Who was a great coach? Well, I mean that. Like, I really mean this. Like, um, dark soul. Well, I really mean this. Like, I think Kyle Shanahan is not thrown by any circumstance.

3:03And this is the team in this division that was forgotten. It was forgotten because Seattle won the Super Bowl and the Rams have been up their own butts. And everyone's been up the Rams' butts for like the last four or five months. Um, I love what occurred tonight. I don't know how else to say it. I absolutely love what occurred tonight because football is a level. It will level you. It will level you out. We'll find out what is real and what's not real. And the Rams with all their little travel plans and all their little Rams items like, uh, here they come. And well, no, the Rams with all those Rams items. No, because you know what? Sorry, but here they come. And I, I, I really, really feel that the Niners are weirdly a team that somehow snuck up on their own division rival. And Kyle Shanahan and, and, and Sean McVeigh have been doing this, um, more than 20 times. And here comes Kyle, here comes Kyle Shanahan doing what he did tonight.

4:04I enjoyed this game because it reminded me that football comes down to what happens on the field. Not a bunch of press and nonsense and regurgitated items and many podcasts about how great assistant coaches are and all this other nonsense. Go out there and do it. And the Niners just went and did it. I'm not surprised. Connor. I give Kyle Shanahan a ton of credit. He took basically the characteristics of his running game, which was, you know, typically that outside zone style stretch running game. It almost kind of inverted it. And it was a classic Shanahan stat line. You had two running backs going, Christian McCaffrey, six point eight yards of carry. And then I think Keel and Black had almost five yards of carry. And each of them had double digit carries. But it was the way that it looked that was a little bit different. We're going through the gaps. We're going between the guards in the centers. And then meanwhile, just on critical plays alone.

5:04Trent Williams is bodying Miles Garrett, 38-year-old Trent Williams. Is bodying Miles Garrett. And I have to imagine after a few drives, I think we made the Soviet US analogy like they just don't seem scary anymore. And all of a sudden you run that offense at full speed. And here it goes. And man, you know, it's one game. And like we said, there's a lot of circumstances which I'm sure we'll get to. But, you know, good for good for the 49ers here. Because you can't go the other way now too, right? Which is now put too much into one game because this was a strange, strange game. And I think, like I said, I think a lot of people are going to put too much into how these teams approached Australia. The Niners are there for days and days and days. The Rams just got in yesterday or today, like with the time zone. Maybe they got in tomorrow. And they certainly looked like it. But you can't even say that because they had all their foot soldiers in the national media spreading the gospel of the Rams.

6:05Like that Schrager tweet came into my mind once this game really started to get away. This was Schrager two days ago. I love Schrager. But like everyone is up the Rams but so hard. And it's like now you've got to climb your way out of the butts. The Rams are all in for the night. It's 9.45. This is last night. In Melbourne, they slept on the flight over and we'll sleep now in the hotel for one night. And they'll wake up and play football game in 12 hours. This isn't some trial and error approach. They've sent 15 staffers over the last two years and have tracked their bodies and sleep rhythms. This was deemed the approach. No turning back now. I just think that's funny because to the point of what you made. Mark that like at the end of the day, the games played on the field. And whatever they did and however millions of dollars, tens of thousands of dollars they spent to study this particular game, they delivered a D minus effort against the division rival.

7:05So you know, I wonder about certain things like, you know, Miles Garrett was dominated by a elder Trent Williams in this game. I want to know is Miles Garrett healthy right now? I think that's a fair question. He wasn't mature. He was not sure he was. He was critical down. Like critical past rushing down. He was off the field. Yeah. We know that Aaron Donald didn't travel with the team. We had Matthew Stafford who was so absolutely dominant. Last season in route to the MVP doesn't throw a touchdown in this game. Barely his, what was his final stats? They had to be absolutely pedestrian. 15 to 25. He didn't look like himself. He also got it. He's got to clean it up a little bit with the beard is all main gene, the hair is like, it's just like the ramps need to get back to LA. And just you flush this game and the toilet's going to go in the opposite direction. And never it's a bury the ball game. And maybe in week one, a bury the ball game is the best time to have it.

8:07Yes, Stafford 15 of 25. And like, it's notable. Yeah, the game's over when it's 27 seven. But you're still we're being told you're a superpower and I still think they are, but they put up the white flag. They take Matt Stafford off the field and they say game over. It was, it reminded me of some of those old NBA playoff games. Who was it when the pistons finally got beat by the bulls and they just walked off the court without shaking hands. It was like, almost the ramps picking up their ball and going home be like, well, this game doesn't matter to much of us anyway. But the Niners kicked their ass. Let's not, let's not get it twisted in any way. They deserve this win. I totally agree with that in the sense that you're putting Stetson Bennett on the field with two plus minutes to go. What are you telling us? It really like plays into the idea and now I'm doing it, but flying in on like the day of the game or whatever it is. Like that they never really took this as seriously as they needed to and maybe internally they're like, you know what?

9:10If we get beaten this game, we'll be fine. We'll wait. But maybe that's the problem here. Maybe that's a problem because maybe they underestimated the 49ers and you also have the Seahawks in this division. It could actually be a good thing for the Rams. Honestly, like when you look at how much positive press they got this summer, this is going to bring you down to earth really fast. And now you're going to be on a long flight back to Ellen. Do you guys think it doesn't matter? Like I think there were, there was some version of that said verbally. Like it's just this game. It doesn't matter. It's like does it like or are the Rams? What have we made? We've mythologized the Rams. We've created something out of the Rams that I'm not sure is true. You see on the Wii. Well, I don't have them making the playoffs, but like you have them winning over 10 and a half games this year. Well, that's it. Okay. In the exercise that matters to I, I have them going to be nine. And like I sat around tonight. I don't know. I felt jolly.

10:10I felt good. We can tell Mark. Yeah. And we're happy for you. It's a good job. I'm not in my league. Just let's keep everything in perspective. Like I am not. I think it will be, I think it will be irresponsible of this podcast to do 40 minutes piloting. 40 minutes piling on the Rams as being frauds coming out of this game. But to get your ass kicked by Shanahan. Yeah, but in week one and I don't care what country it occurred in. I do. I do. I do. You kind of care. They seem like a weird. It seemed like put it this way. When they have a rematch, I have to check the schedule and that is this shit ain't happening again. This is a funky ass Thursday week one on the other side of the world game. And the Rams weren't ready for it or maybe not even that invest in it. Well, if they weren't ready for it and weren't invested, then why are we climbing up their buttolls? Like I mean, we keep saying we I'm not I am not doing that. You know what I mean? Like if they weren't ready for it and they weren't.

11:10What point do you become invested? I don't know. I'm kind of not buying the whole scenario, but you guys tell me how it works. You guys do. We're touching on an interesting point here, though, right? Which is that you have the rematch in December. I think it's like December 13th. It's week 14 December 13th. Yeah, week 14th. Yeah, yeah. Everything changes between now and then. And this had the look and feel offensively for the Rams like a preseason game. And maybe was the trip over here and whatever you want to make of the whirlwind of the science and sending the staffers over. This is how they treated the London games. So obviously they're going to treat the Australian game the same way. But is the idea to maybe not lose the body clock on the way back? And is that more important to them when they have the rest of the season in front of them? Then a game, like you said, that just comes down to who can get the most rest in a unique situation? Who can feel the less like crap when they have to fly 17 hours overseas?

12:12And you know, not to say that like they gave up or they didn't try. But like is the recovery to them more important when they know that they have a great roster in a long season? Yeah, they were puffing out their chest that they never changed their, they were puffing out their chest that they never even changed time zones. Like they isn't that what I'm saying though. Like isn't it better to win 27 to seven then we'll work on our body clocks. But we'll win 27 to seven. Like, oh, let's go take a huge loss. But it's our body clocks that matter and like we'll recover for the next week. I mean, that is becoming a little too scientific and esoteric for me. And they're not going to say that either by the way. I mean, that's us kind of that we're trying to maybe get inside their heads a little bit. But I to your point, Mark, like this is a bit it's a big game and to the point I mean, it's an embarrassment. This was an embarrassment. I don't know. Now you're taking away from the Niners that they're a good team. Like they just it was just like a good team that beat a team that wasn't ready to play. I didn't I didn't see it. I didn't see it as that way.

13:12But I think the Niners deserve a lot of credit because however you strategize it like the Niners beat the Rams tonight. And that can have a really big effect in this race going down the stretch and and counts. It counts in the standings. Whether or not the Rams took it as seriously as they should have. And we could talk about that to rule balloon the face because they're never going to admit it that they didn't. The Niners took it seriously and they put it together. And I I think on the Niners said that not only the Mike Evans and that we chose the Mike Evans highlight touchdowns. He had a few to choose from. Damn, that guy. I mean, he's going on all fame. He should be going on the Hall of Fame. I don't know. I have no idea what the bar is for the Hall of Fame with White receivers. It seems kind of weird. But it takes a special type of guy to be the face of the franchise for 10, 12 years. However long it wasn't Tampa. But it's a change teams deal with a hamstring injury injury in camp and then hit the field as the best wide receiver on the field and make it look like, and this is to Brock Perties.

14:15Credit as well because that touchdown pass is beautiful. Like they've been playing together for 10 years. I mean, the chemistry every big play that Evans had. And I know maybe statistically it wasn't the biggest game. Let me see where he finished. He finished at six for 49 touch on seven targets. But they were all important catches for Mike Evans. So you see Evans there. You see Debo Samuel and Connor. You were on this in the summer that you saw that he could slide back into the offense and be a playmaker. Of course, he's not the Debo five years ago. But he really looked functional in this offense. It was really interesting. How Christian McCaffrey was used with K-Lon Black. K-Lon Black actually got a little bit more run in the running game that people expect. And in fact, he was great. He was great. McCaffrey who wasn't maybe he's working his way back. He was a little banged up this summer. But Black runs 14 for 65. McCaffrey 10 for 68. But McCaffrey is also involved in the passing game. Kittle was kind of on a pitch count. Wasn't really involved.

15:15But then on the other side of the ball on defense. You and Kekeley did it. I thought Kekeley was really good, by the way. He was freaking out. He was great. He was freaking out with the move to stick stuff. But he was really sharp. Fred Warner, Drake Green Law, Nick Bosa, all in the field, making plays. It's a reminder of this team. Can they stay healthy? That's the question. Today they were healthy and kick and ask. Except for Dishonned Stribbling, that sucked. We'll see what happens there. I mean, Mike Evans, it's just when he has a quarterback that is, man, Baker Mayfield was a great example to hyper-accurate. But he's body-ing cornerbacks that are 6-1. I mean, just the mismatch. The sheer mismatch that he presents in the red zone. And I think it just offers the 49er so much more flexibility. You don't have to ram a 31-year-old Christian McCaffrey in at the goal line anymore. I think you're giving yourself a little bit more flexibility. Even with the debos stuff that you brought up, Dan, they really tried a lot of those kind of those hard screens where he was already in motion toward the goal line to try to get him going in the red zone a little bit.

16:18Again, it's health-dependent, but they seem to have a lot of options that they're disposal right now. I mean, it's a more attractive offense than I thought going in. And again, this is with half-speed George Kittle and with your second tight end getting hurt after trying to leg whip my military at the beginning of the game. And so they're not even close to being at full speed right now. And I think also tonight you see the difference when Fred Warner and Drake Greenlaw are together and they create that fun. From Tyler Higby when they're up 24-7, I believe it was. That's the game under and it's like they didn't have that year. Like I just, I mean, for all they've been through. The one thing I'd say about the Niners for all they've been through and like man, they seem chaotic. Somehow they're not chaotic. Like football teams spin out of control. We've seen it a hundred times. And like the Niners instead go three, 14 time zones away and drop a massive hammer. Like I am incredibly impressed. I'm impressed. And I think it matters a lot.

17:19And even if it's just one loss for the Rams, I'm not going to go down the road of like well the Rams are being sold down to a different estate. But like look, look, like this mattered a lot. This is your number one rival of your Sean McVey. You want to beat Kyle Shanahan. And you got your butt handed to you in Australia. And I don't, you know what, you had, you had Miles Garrett on the field and he was a non factor. I look at the box score. Cessler's a pick. No, no, no, but I look at the box score late in the fourth quarter. Miles Garrett is not even in the defensive box score. Oh, it's not even looking to box score. Cessi, give us a little dance, baby. Well, no, because you know what? Because the Niners, the kind of team that I like. Because it's like everyone counts them out. Everyone's counting them out. Yeah, everyone's counting them out and saying they're the one team that doesn't matter. And the team that doesn't matter in this division, you know what? Yes, they do. The Seahawks are floating right now. We'll find out who they are. And the Rams just got their butts handed them. Take a nice 18 hour flight home back to LA Rams.

18:22And go back to your mansions and your little mansions. They're all raised. But you just got your butts handed to you. And I love it. And that's football. A lot of butt stuff today. How many times? But that's football. That's football though. We're going to spend eight months with a bunch of special reports about the Rams. It's a bunch of special reports and think pieces about the Rams. And then here comes Kyle Shanahan just saying, I don't care. I got in a car accident that was destructive about 40 days ago. And now I'm going to come and kick your butt. Are we giving him credit for that? I am giving him credit. Like, you can like, well, that's an overcomer. He's overcoming something. And the whole team does. And it's like, we were done with this team. We were done with the Niners because of the... I was waiting. I'm not seeing you two, but don't you feel a little bit the media was like, we're kind of done with the Niners. Like, let's move on. Now it's all about the Rams. And guess what? No, you're not. Have a nice day. Well, I'm a little fired up because this game is my kind of game.

19:22Yeah. No, this is my kind of game. Did you like this game? Did you enjoy this game, Mark? Yes, I did. I love football. And I love it when it occurs like this where it's like, take all the think piece artists. Where they were. Where? Where? What box? Where are you going to put the box? A little tiny box. Where are you going to put it? I'm going to stick that little tiny box inside of another box. We know what you want to say. I'm just saying calm down, everybody. Some could say calm down, Mark. That's the only thing I'll say. People could say calm down. I'm going to be devil's advocate here, Mark. Maybe calm down a little bit that the Niners beat a jet lag team. A jet lag team on the other side of the world. Well, but maybe that's the team that said they figure out how to try. Just don't shoot the messenger. I know you're very excited today. And you should be. You had all your weird predictions this week. I think one of them was if the Niners would be good. Miles Garrett is on your hit list. He was invisible.

20:22He had no tackles. But I just don't want us to now say that the Rams are frauds because of this game. I'm not saying that either. But I just think this was where they are. It's an exclamation. Because I want us to be a show that we're not that type of show where everyone based on one game has decided everything is flipped. I would like to see where the Rams are. Home Giants, at Broncos, at Eagles. And then they're getting ready for the bills. Where the Rams at. They put themselves a little bit behind the eight ball here. I don't know. I don't know if we should be writing them off. Put it that way as some type of media creation. This is still a very good team that had a bad night. It's a very good team that had a bad night against a coach who knows them intimately well. And again, with Garrett off the field and then with no Jared verse. It's still a good defensive line. But that iteration of a defensive line with a healthy 49ers offensive line is a serious 49ers advantage mismatch.

21:26Right. And so, you know, I think in picking the Rams, you just don't expect Miles Garrett to be that much of a non factor. And thought it was interesting that Tom Pelicero is the side by a reporter who was noting how physically gased he was walking off the field. I think he said that multiple times. Like he looks tired. He's struggling to catch his breath. Is there a conditioning issue here? Yeah. I thought it all right. I mean, like he's not practiced or played at all. I think we have Kyle Shanahan at the podium right now. By the way, Kyle, the other thing that made me feel better about the Niners is when he shaved that mustache. Things started to get a little more back to in the orbit of normalcy for the Niners to the moment that happened. Let's listen in. Show how confusing it was comparing it to people at home. But I learned the days when we got here. We're one ahead. Now I'm ready to go back back into the future. I think it's Thursday at home and it's Friday here. My son plays on Friday. So somehow I'm going to land over a day later.

22:26But still be able to make his game on Friday. So it's pretty cool. He's really into this time thing. I mean, the game worked. You know, everybody has that buddy who knows I knew I was just a big time travel. I'm just thinking about it all the time. You never know. Go ahead. He's into it. You just try to do the best from repair for three and a half hours. I like how we prepared. But more important than I liked how we played. I would say the happiest man in the world right now, Mark Ceceler. Second happiest Kyle Shanhen. Look at him. It looks like the weight of the world is off his shoulders. I agree. I felt awesome. Let me just have those guys back. We went a long time without them last year. George not as long. He just missed the one playoff game. But I know just I know it's huge for those guys from just a mental standpoint. Get over that hump. Get now playing again. Their impact you could feel. All right. Okay. You want to hit us with an ad? We're going to take you off the screen. Lose it. Yeah. Gravy. We love that ad. Riverside. It's a Riverside ad. We love Riverside for something.

23:27Do you not feel that like Kyle Shanhen, like, has been shoved into the background a little bit beyond the car crash? Like, I feel for him tonight. I love him. I adore him. He's my type of dude. Like whatever. Like, that's my team. And like, I kind of love that they went down there and dropped a bomb on this like media creation. I don't like media creations. And that's what the Rams are. And we'll find out if they are not that. Yeah. And then we've got this situation. All right. Relax. Here we go. Look at this. Michael Irvin. Can I just say Mike is aging incredibly in general. I mean, if you've seen him in person, he takes care of himself. He's always been a friendly guy. This is not an anti-Michael Irvin take. But this is a younger man's hairstyle. And sometimes when you put the younger man's hairstyle on the man that's, you know, 61 or whatever Mike is now, it kind of looks like you're on an SNL sketch or something.

24:28That's what I kind of feel like I'm looking at right now. Like Michael Irvin is hosting SNL and doing one of those. I think you're right. It looks like it could be a woman's hairstyle if you really wanted to go down that road. But like, yes. I'm with you. And then the woman on the other side of the desk is wearing like OJ's gloves from Rock Hand. And I'm just trying to figure that out. Yeah. You guys didn't like the telecast, by the way. The two of you were all firing up on text. I didn't work for the audience. It wasn't at tonight. Okay. What was your issue with the Netflix telecast? So I want to clear this up. I'm not saying that there was no fan presence. I'm saying that it was impossible to tell whether there was a fan presence because the stands are so far away from the field that the field mics are not picking up any of the

25:28atmosphere. And so I think the broadcast suffered in a couple different ways. We had the Big Matt Stafford play at the goal line, the goal line stand for San Francisco. And normally in an NFL broadcast, you get overhead shot, side shot. You get a million different angles. You get the coach rolling his eyes and going, you know, and his cheeks are like flapping and slow motion. As they go to break. Yeah. Yeah. You get all of that. You get the whole buffet of all of these shots. And I don't know if they didn't have the overhead cam there. But there was just a lot missing. It was almost like like a TV adaptation of a novel. Like there's just like, wait, where's that part? Why isn't this part in this? And I thought that that was strange. Almost to the point where so I think like midway through the third quarter, I was like, are we going to get a camera like a crowd shot just to see what these people look like. And eventually they did show two shirtless men blasting into each other and singing sweet Caroline, which is great. Like it seemed like everybody had a great time there. But like the entire broadcast was odd.

26:31It was sloppy. I compared it to like, I've watched a fair amount of division two football. In my time, it looked like watching Bloomsberg and Slippery Rock on a live stream. Like it was just. Which especially when there's look, there's a hundred thousand people packing that place. And it was a beautiful day and it looked like the field was in great condition. And for a game, it started at 10 a.m. The one thing I do agree with you about is this sounded feel a little bit off on the telecast. And you would think you would think. And by the way, Australians are good looking people. I think we all know that. Well, the rugged. The rugged and narrow. Well, the rugged physical. But there are some of those beautiful women in the world. Like let's get into the stands like repeatedly. But maybe there were some resource issues. I mean, there's a lot of travel that one it says. Who knows? Netflix has more money than God. It would surprise me. I mean, I would just say, I think Connor, you nailed it. Like on, you know, Wes and I used to, Dan, if you recall, like we would go off on the

27:32intense annoying sunlight and Tampa. That would occur during like an early game. Like if Tampa was hosting a game at 1 p.m. Eastern, like this sunlight is annoying. And I don't, it's an unappealing. It's unrewarding as a viewer to watch the sun. And so a game in Australia, because that's it. We're talking about a sunny part of the country or the world. Like the sun is so intense. It's 10.30. It's late morning becoming noon. I think that was a problem. But you are, but Connor, you nailed it. It felt like a lower tier college game at times. I do think that Eagle and Kekely did a great job. Eagle and Kekely were great. Yeah. I can't go there with you guys. I'm glad you guys are locked in. It's visual. Well, it's, it's, it's, it's that. I thought it was, I thought it was overall the telecast was, was fine. I just like, you know, I had to go to a back to school night at one point. And I'm, the only thing I get, I kind of got me going was I'm fast forwarding trying to catch up. And they keep on hitting me with a paywall.

28:33Like I must watch five minutes of commercials. And I'm like, oh Netflix, you can't do this to me. Like that I found super annoying. I guess you must. I'm guessing I might not be the only person that was trying to do that at some point. But yeah, I mean, let's, and Connor, you've said plenty about the, your feelings about international football. It looked like a, like a great vibe there. And they certainly the idea that there wasn't anybody, going to be anybody there. That, that building was packed. And like we said, at 10 a.m. And the, like that is a, that's a pretty cool scene. And I'm happy for like, we have listeners in Australia. And I'm sure a lot of people that listen to this show were at that game because that's a once in a lifetime opportunity. So I'm cool that I'm, I'm happy that it looked like the success. And that's where I come down on it. I would like just like a minute to clear everything up here. And because I'm, I know we had fans at this game because I was tweeting with them and, and just saying, please God, understand what I am trying to say.

29:33I never said that you would not pack a stadium. In fact, if you were to put an NFL game in East Biscuit Nebraska, I could get 100,000 people to go to that game too. You have 100,000 people on a whole continent. You should be able to pack the Melbourne cricket grounds. Good for you that you did that. It looks like you had a great time. I've never said international fans are not knowledgeable. I never said you're not smart. I never said you're not passionate. What I said was that this game made no sense to have for any meaningful reason. The only storylines going into this game where how our team's going to handle the body clock. Our team looks severely gassed. Miles Garrett barely played. The stands are so far away from the crowd that you can't hear the noise. And I'm talking about this just from the perspective of the viewer. Again, I know that you guys had a great time. I know that you showed up all that kind of stuff. We don't get key replays. And all I'm saying is like, what, what did we get out of it?

30:34Largely. Like, I'm glad that 100,000 people in Australia had fun. That makes me happy. But as a football community globally, what did we get out of this? Because we got an ass game between two division rivals that should be an absolute banger. We talked about flights for two weeks. Like we're at travelosity. And then, you know, the only, this felt like we missed, felt like we missed a game just to throw a party. Can I 100,000 people in Australia? Which again, I'm happy that they had that. But like, I didn't get anything out of it. So that sucks for me. Okay. So I think the thing I do agree with you on going back to the game itself. It was a big game, a big divisional game. And I think that's some of the, some of the rumblings you heard from these teams, especially on the Niners side, is like, that's a tough spot to put us in in week one. And maybe you put maybe a game that's less high octane over there because people are going to love it. No matter what the game was, it was going to be a great experience over there. But this is a very big game in the NFC. And maybe we didn't get the best of both teams. But that's going to get sessified up again because he doesn't want to take anything away from the Niners. And neither do I. No, I just know. But that's the version of the rams and Niners today. Yeah, that's it. That's all I'm trying to say. Thank you. Go, go, go, go, go, go. It's just like, why now, right? Like, it was weird. The broadcast started with like the 9-11 memorial thing. And this is like, why isn't this game here? And then I'll do week nine in Australia. 32:38and body clocks and things that don't really take place on the field. And then we're celebrating, you know, or memorializing the 25 years of 9-11, like in Australia. Like none of it is. And that was a little bit. And I understand the league wants to, wants to, to, you know, talk about 9-11 and have that part of it. It does feel like a bridge too far. Have that game into your work. Well, I'm saying a bridge too far to, to have that pre-game ceremony. So today is the anniversary. And it's like, no, bitch, like, tomorrow's the anniversary. And it happened here. It just felt like a little strange. It was just like, yes. This is, this is a little too much. But let's not, let's just move on. I would say one question. Yes, I hope that, I hope all the heat in this out there had a great time at that game. That's all right. I hope so too. And then we'll check in on the injury report coming out of Seattle, which is highly notable.

So tonight, Niners, Rams, yesterday, Seahawks, Pats, these are four of the best teams in football or so we think entering the season. Who had the more disturbing loss? Connor, I'll start with you. Who would you, if you're a Pats fan or a Rams fan, who should be more worried coming out of this, these two games?

35:46I'm slightly more concerned if I'm a Pats fan because we have the sample size on Matt Stafford and Sean McVey and all those guys and we know that they can bounce back. And I'm sure that they're going to bounce back. What's weird about Drake May is I fear for him that he's now had two, his only two three plus interception games coming back to back against great defenses. And I think that that has a potential to be a narrative that gets out of control for him personally. And he's got a good record. I think it's like five and two against teams with a winning record. But we all know how these things get out of control and let's say he gets tuned up by a couple of good defenses and starts feeling a certain way or whatever it is. You worry about confidence in young players like that. And there were just times when he looked incredibly adrift in that game and made such a killer mistake. That last pick was such a killer mistake that I'm more concerned about whatever is going on there than Stafford who we know can bounce back and we have the sample size over time.

36:49Could you maybe say that Drake May was seeing ghosts against the Seattle sea? I would love that. I would love that. You could potentially say it. When you factor in May's struggle and looking as bad as he did in the fourth quarter there with the AJ Brown injury, that is as bad as an opener can be the latest on it. It's like we talked about yesterday. It looked like a high ankle sprain. He's expected to miss maybe up to a month and then you just got to hope he comes back and he's in a pretty good position. And then on the Seattle side, Sam Darnold, there was a concern that he had fractured his hip. That's how concerned they were and that's why they sent him to the hospital in the first quarter yesterday. Here's Mike McDonald today giving an update on his quarterback. No update honestly from earlier. But it's been positive news. So right now I think we're just working through the extent of the injury and then putting

37:50a plan in place to get back, rock and roll. It is silver lining as we have some extra time here. We'll get things back up and running on Monday, actual Monday, calendar Monday, not football Monday. Actually it will be Monday. We'll be back. It will be a football Monday and a calendar Monday. Like for, by the way, but the Rams, you give up 174 yards rushing tonight to Kaelin black primarily and to Brock pretty running for first downs. You don't stop the run. You're embarrassed in another country. Matthew Stafford is stopped at the goal line in a major play. Like they cannot produce points. They, I think this was a disaster. Now, but if you're saying who I'm most worried about, like kind of none of these teams a little bit, I think they'll all work themselves out. Patriots, Seahawks, Niners, Rams. They're all going to work themselves out of their, their issues. But like, um, I think if you're the Rams and you came in with all this like these bells

39:56and whistles and everyone's writing 4,000 word articles about you, I don't know. That's a bit of a disappointment. You kind of, you, you, you, you peed the bed. You shit the bed. One thing you did both. You did both things to your point, though, Mark, being worried about the Rams, I, I go back to when I talked to Dante Skarnekki about the Patriots Super Bowl when they beat Sean McVeigh in the Rams and they had Aaron Donald and they had that great defensive line. And he said, all we did in that game was throw quick passes because it drove Aaron Donald nuts. It drove all their pass rushers nuts because they had to move laterally and they had to get off the ball, but they knew that they weren't going to be impactful in the game plan at all because by the time that they got there, the ball was well out of the quarterback's hands. The 49ers did that a lot tonight. Like Brock Purtie, the ball was out in like 1.6, 1.7, which is below even some of the fastest snapped of throw times in the NFL. And the one thing that slightly concerns me about the Rams is like, what if all like every team just does that to some degree, right?

40:58They just go in accepting that they know that that pass rush will whip their butt at some point. And so they just keep doing the quick game. They just kind of neutralize that part of it. Like what, how does that change what we thought about this team going in? And I know you can't do it for a long period of time, but like it is a weapon at a disposal and San Francisco did well with it. Justin, do we have any updates on the Sean Stribbling? I'm hoping that's not a kill ease because that would not. And Achilles per head coach Kyle Shanahan. Okay, that's good during part of what we played, but not the part that we played said that he had an injured ankle and his Achilles is intact. I mean, the way he collapsed that was that was pretty disturbing. And that throw to end the game was to sky that was incomprehensible and disgusting. To even put the ball with that much air under it in that situation, it was fun. Finally, that was just a joke. You cannot do that. He blew this game and he was bad all night. I thought the only thing he produced all night was high school level plays, high school, science class, chemistry.
