You know, we did the flights and hotel package and everything were over there for about a week. And we we had a blast like city was incredible. It reminded me a lot of the South. The Randall people just stopping you everywhere you went. Oh, are you from California. Yeah, we are. Oh, tell us about what are you here for it? Like it, you know, talking about football and by the end of the trip, it was like, are the Rams coming? Like everybody was just throwing shade like Melbourne was very upset.

5:35By the Rams, how they handled things. And the entire city was kind of swayed over into the 49ers faithful by the end of the week. And it was just it was incredible though the weather turned out pretty good. It was remarkable how similar Melbourne and San Francisco are as like sister cities, the gold rush, the ethnicity population was so close, the windy by the water. It was so awesome. It was a wonderful time. Glad to be back. And I'm finally filling normal a couple days in. So yeah, man, but glad to be back. 6:36Looks like a lot of fun. I'm going to be on some of those trips. So we're going to definitely hook up on the road this year. What was the most adventurous adventurous thing that you did or eight over there. Did you eat anything exotic? I had some kangaroo. I did have some room. You did have some kangaroo. I had to. What is it? Is it a steak? Is it a nugget? Is it breaded? Is it? I mean, what are we? Is it Amy? Is it chewy? What do it? It is. There's no fat. There's no fat on a kangaroo. So like I was kind of shocked. A steak. A steak. It was kind of cooked like a beef Wellington, right? Where it has like this breading on the outside of like a thick cut of meat. It was rough. The stomach did not enjoy it. Really? The person who lived in Louisiana for a long time. I finished it and I truly believe you have to try everything twice before you decide. So I've got to go back so that I could try to get. But wasn't the most pleasant experience.

7:36Really? What would it be honestly? What was it? Chewy or what? Yeah, it was tough. It was very very tough and very gamey, but it's very healthy. It's just you know they tried to get asses. It's all I was talking to a lot of like the Aussies down there asking them about it. They're like, yeah, they tried to like do all these commercials to try to get us to eat it. We just don't eat it. We don't like it. It's so like. Yeah, it's not a lot of Aussies don't do it. You know, it's one I can when I went when I went to Hawaii. And they were like, oh, you know, you got to try the point, you know, I the point sucks. I'm always awful. I tried the point. It was not I didn't enjoy the point. But when I went to New Orleans, I did have the fried alligator, but I was out of you. You know, five star restaurant. I went to Gator's not bad. Gator's not bad. Yeah, it's delicious actually. Um, this was not delicious. And it was it was all right. It was all I'd say like a four out of 10. I, but I got to have it again. I got to try to different prepared a different way. I think before I, but uh, yeah. Yeah. All right.

8:43Best part about being there. Man, just the friendliness. It was very clean city. The animals were really cool. We got to see, you know, Tasmanian Devils, King Cruz, went to Salkuala's, went to all of that. That was really, really fun. But the people were just so cool. Man, it was a good time. I hope I'm going to go back. The wife and I hopefully we get to make another trip out there. But yeah, for those that came out, I think everybody had a good time. And I liked international games. Larry, it's a pain in the butt and it wore me out. Um, but my goal is to never miss an international game again. And Mexico City is going to be a blast. I can't wait for that one. Yeah, I'm thinking Kevin wants to go to Mexico City badly. So I think we're going to be there for that. Then I have them not really sure. Do we go Dallas and go to an M Tennessee the day before? Do we do Atlanta and visit my daughter? I'm thinking about going back to Atlanta for her graduation in December. So may not. I may skip Atlanta. I think I may go to Seattle. Um, thinking about LA and the church. I don't get a bunch of different options. But we will be traveling.

9:51We're definitely going to travel in the playoffs. But we got to pick and choose in the regular season. We do have a sponsor, Claudette, he arcades, who's going to, going to pay for us to go. So it's going to, if you're looking for the biggest party, that's going to be in Dallas. So I'm pretty excited about that. But I'm from Texas. So I got to pull out all the stops. It's what you know, I'm part of that trip could be me making a pilgrimage to Kyle field, which, come on, man, I'm a big A&M fan. It seems like if I, if I don't go to get up there. Yeah, I got to get there and get the sway going, man. There you go. And my Aggies are playing good ball right now. So I got to, I got to stay with it. And we've got McKinley Jackson now in the roster. So I got to, I got to, in fact, I got to go hunt down McKinley Jackson in the locker room. But let's talk a little bit about the stories of the day. And the 49ers are back that today they had their first practice.

10:55And they had to announce because they hadn't had any media availability really since they were in Australia that all the announcements got made today as far as the roster and who's going where and what's happening. And basically 49ers put Dejan Stribling on season ending I are. So his, his year is done. And Jake Tongus's year is done. And so that the 49ers in that way are kind of in a bad way. What do you, what do you think? I mean, I thought Stribling was going to be gone for a month. Now it looks like he's going to be gone for 10 weeks. Maybe more. That's a long, long time. What's your, what's your thought on Dejan Stribling, you know, being gone now for 10 weeks could be. A minimum could be two and a half, could be two and a half month, it could be, you know, two full months, you know, it's September 19 or 16th at May. It may not be until, you know, three actually three full months. It could wind up being in a mid December before he's back.

12:06Man, it depends on if you're a glass half full or a half empty guy, because I think it's going to be, you know, you look at this type of surgery on the ankle. Yeah, 10 weeks he could be back. That is the optimistic view for sure. It's not outside of the realm of possibility. He does not take snaps again this season. Like that has to be on the table at Kyle Shanahan very honest and open about a lot of things injury timelines. Not the best track record to say the least. I hope Stribling's back in 10 weeks because you could use him. He had the most snaps of any wide receiver at the point. He got a second injury, which could talk about that too. Got injured, went through the test. They put him back out there. Definitely was injured should not have put him back out there. Now you're in the mess. You're in. And with the recap here saw news, you kind of see the 49ers going the more cautious long term route and saying, you know what? Let's have the surgery. Let's don't let it wait to heal. Let's get it done long term. I think that's probably the smart move, especially whenever you look at the wide receiver room as old as it is long term.

13:14I don't have a lot of options this year. A lot of different options in house, which we'll talk about. I hope Stribling's back in 10 weeks. I wouldn't hold my breath because this is an entry that can take a little bit longer to get back to full speed because it's the ankle. Get it out there and get your speed work in. And so the prep time once he is fully healed to get back into football shape for a speed position. Different if it would be a quarterback or as a lineman or something along those lines for a wide receiver speed is everything. He's got to get there. And so it's going to take a while 10 weeks would be optimal. Not so sure it's going to be that timeline though. So let's talk about the options, right? They have right away as far as like Sunday. I don't think I think they're fine. You know they can slide to Marcus Robinson over Robinson's a big time player. You got Evans, you got Debo, you got to Marcus. She still got cowing. You could elevate Watkins. I kind of they've got Darryl Hodg as a special teamer. I think they're covered.

14:22Then within, you know, at week five, you can call Christian Kirk back to the active rosters. A lot of talk that he may start practicing and maybe even as soon as next week. Then you also have the option of your own practice squad guys. You've got Will Pauling and Wesley Grimes. And I'm just going to say it right now. I think Wesley Grimes can do the job. I think Wesley Grimes is a Paul poor man's day. John Stribling. Yep. A lot of similar traits. We were both high on him, Larry. Love him. Love this kid. And you know what? Sometimes when I get a chance to meet the guys, I'm not as high on them for whatever reason. I'm higher on Grimes after meeting him because he's such a sharp kid. He's so smart. He's just a really, really motivated smart kid. And I don't know why he didn't get drafted. I don't know why a player with that kind of size and four three speed would go undrafted. But he looked great this summer. And I trust my eyes.

15:23So he may not be ready this minute. But six weeks from now after he learns more about the position on the practice squad and get some reps. I could see Grimes being an option. Then you've got other practice squad guys and other teams. I'm a big Dylan Bell fan. But there's probably other guys on other practice squads. I haven't even really researched. And then you also have Darius Slate and who was just cut loose by the giants. And a lot of ways he's a very much like a Desjardin stripling. He's he's six three six four he runs in the four threes. And so I mean, it's to me, it's like if you were going to lose tripling for a month, I'd say, I just go internal. But if he's really going to need, you know, he had surgery and he's going to be out 10 weeks. I don't know. I think I'd be interested in Slate and I think Slate and in San Francisco in the Niners offense with party and all these weapons. I think Slate and could be a revelation that could be one of the better pickups that nobody's even banking on. So I go after Slate and I really would.

16:28I'm a big, Darius Slate fan have been his entire career because he's a versatile wide receiver. They can play all three wide receiver spots for the Niners and has played a lot of special teams. So the versatility that he provides, if they were going to get him that time seems to have come and gone, which I was an advocate for. And I know you were as well, Larry, like go get the veteran plug and play guy that you could trust. I know that you have Jacob County. I know that Jordan Watkins was a healthy scratch last week. He's on the 53. I know you promoted Catero Hodge, but man, all three of those guys accounted for six offensive snaps on the wide receiver position last week. There's a reason why they weren't getting those snaps. A Catero Hodge, more of a special teams guy. Jacob Cowling. He's a gadget guy that she could play a couple different spots. And then you got Jordan Watkins on the outside. He plays that X Mike Evans role. Pasoda's to Marcus Robinson. So you have the depth built into the practice squad in the roster. There have been seasons where the four aren't only kept five wide receivers on their entire 53.

17:32So the body counts that you have dressed is sufficient. And I would argue that this wide receiver group that you have now even post pier saw and post dribbling entry is better than anything the 49ers had the wide receiver position all of last year throughout the playoffs and regular season. This group is better with what you're putting out there now with Evans, D. Boat, Marcus Robinson. And then you know you've got the backups filtered in there. It's not a positional strength with what you have now you still have depth. But now you're like, okay, we need to start building a short term list. And you know, I do want to push back or support your idea of Wesley Grimes because he got injured right after that first preseason game. So a lot of nine or fans didn't get to see much of him. He was tearing up camp. He was making plays all the time. And again, there were a couple of times I was out there. People thought he was D. Bo, because he's built like D. Boat and he kept making plays like was that D. Boat was like, nah, it's not him.

18:35So can he elevate to be enough that you know what we don't have to go sign outside. If we have to we can go here. And as you said, Christian Kirk, he can start practicing after this game, the dolphins can't play until after week four. But that's more veteran depth. That's already in house. And you used your I. R designated to return spot on him. So that is already allocated in the one of eight return spots that you have. I think that they're not panicking too much. Yeah, and I don't think they should. I don't think they should panic. I think they're pretty well fortified. And especially because they've got good internal options. And as I said, I'd be totally fine if they just promoted grimes from the practice squad and said, hey, we're going to put them out there. I mean, it's rare. But like the team they're playing this weekend, the Miami dolphins did exactly that. You know, they they took there to rookie receivers. They didn't really play their rookie receivers much in training camp or in the preseason.

19:39But they're putting their rookies out there. Caleb Douglas, you know, and the kid from Louisville, they're getting out there right away. They're putting them out there. Why? Because they're they're a young team. They're kind of rebuilding. And they feel like this is the future for the dolphins. So that's what the dolphins are doing. They're putting receivers on the field that really never, you know, didn't really earn the job. Chris Bell, Caleb Douglas, Kevin Coleman, they got three rookie receivers. It's a very, very young team. And it's probably the youngest receiving core and football. But if I'm the 49ers, I'd roll with to Marcus Robinson and see how it looks for a week or two. But I'll tell you, Darius Slateen is intriguing. You know, he's had four seasons of 700 plus yards. He fell behind this summer because he had a core muscle surgery. So he missed OTAs. And he's coming off of a kind of a disappointing 20, 25 year where Malik neighbors stepped in and everybody else got kind of moved to the side.

20:42We're also talking about a big receiver who runs 439 who average 15 yards per reception, who's a good good guy. He's the team. He was an ex-chiant team captain. And, you know, I kind of feel I saw the interview that he did where he's like, hey, look, I don't. I've got offers and I've got places I can go, but I really want to pick the right place. And I just think that if he really does and he's taught he kind of mentioned winning. He's played for some bad football teams and it's like, you know, I think the guy would like to win. Now you get a 49er team that's a winner and you got a receiver that's out maybe three months and you got this guy. You know, do you want to play in cow Shanahan's offense? Yes. Do I want to play it with Brock Pretty as my quarterback? Yes. Do I want to play on a team that has, you know, CMC and Kittle and Mike Evans getting doubles and I'm never going to be doubled all year. Yes.

26:13So I and since the Giants paid him 9.7 million when they cut him, he's interested in picking like the best football spot for him. Not it's not necessarily about cash. So I kind of feel like his bottom line and the Niners bottom line made jive here. The Niners don't have a lot of cash to throw him, but they have a great opportunity, great offense and an opening here. And I kind of think that if you put Darius Slayton opposite, you know, on the 49er team with Brock Pretty throwing him the rock and cow Shanahan calling the plays and Mike Evans drawing doubles on the other side. I think Darius Slayton could be a major factor. I know it sounds like a little bit of pie in the sky because we're talking about a guy who's available on the street in week two. So already people would be pessimistic being well, dude, if he's any good, wouldn't he be on a team. But the Giants kind of loose and he had offers, he just declined them because he wants to go where he wants to go. The question is, does he want to go to San Francisco? I don't know.

27:16And I don't even think even if you did bring him in, I don't think you'd be a top three guy, but he'd be a rotational piece. He would step into that to Marcus Robinson role. That was at the outset where like, look, this is our utility wide receiver that can play all three spots and can step in whenever somebody is being rotated out like insert him into that situation. Now my question to you Larry, let's say you do sign. Darius Slayton, which wide receiver are you letting go? Are you cutting Jordan Watson? I know you're a big Jordan Watson guy doesn't provide much on special teams. Walk doesn't block. I like walkins. So like is this the time for him to start getting snaps and actually being put out there? Yeah, I mean, you know, in reality, you know, just flushing it out in a conversation like this. I would say this is the window for walkins to you know, it's now or never. I'd give him a five week run here and just I probably would I'd probably be more concerned about other areas of my football team.

28:19And I probably I like Grimes and I believe in Grimes and I like walkins and I think there's a good opportunity for him here. So I think they got enough. I think Shanahan's right actually. I think you know, he said today, hey, we're we're fortified enough from within. You know, I mean, you could always think about it in November and early November at the trade deadline if all these other guys fail. But I think I'll start with the Marcus Robinson against Miami steady diet of balls going to him. Two weeks from now, if I'm not liking what I'm seeing there, then maybe I'm trying to try to force feed Jordan walkins. But I think I'd take the next month. And before I picked up slate and I think I'd I'd probably take a good look at walkins and Robinson try to push Grimes and practice a little bit more and see if one of those three guys can be the solution before I go to slate. Now, slate is not going to cost anything. I don't think he's going to cost you a lot of money and I don't he's not going to cost you anything in a trade. So there's not a lot of downside to pick up slate. But you're right. It's like somebody's going to have to be on the roster. Somebody's going to have to get cut.

29:30You know, I mean, it's. I mean, they've already promoted Hodge and I think they want they like Hodges special teamer. So I do think that they're going to try to go with what they got at least in the short term, which is. And he can play all three spots to so like there's a lot of versatility with the wide receivers on this roster to where you're not pigeonholed to man, we only have two X's we only have two Z's. It's not like that because the Marcus Robinson can play everything. Jacob Cowan can play everything like you have guys that are utility wide receivers that can play it all those spots. I think that that helps out a lot. There's no question it says the other big news was Jake Tonshous done for the year. We kind of knew he was going down that direction, but now we got the official word today from Shanahan. They put Braden Willis from the practice squad to the active roster and they've already signed Jack stole they worked out Lawrence cageer, Tanner Connor and Jack stole and they signed stole to the practice squad.

30:33So are you satisfied that that addresses the Tonshous opening. Yeah, you know, Braden Willis made this initial 53 man roster that they value him a lot. Remember, he was drafted way after several, I think what four rounds after they draft cam law to who's now long gone. But like Braden Willis has stayed with this team and built rapport is a huge locker room guy huge workout guy and man, he can play lots of say he played both tight in spots in the full in the full back spot. He also is incredible on special teams. And if you go back to the preseason, all of the big runs of the preseason, you're going to see number nine with the key block leading the way. So can that transition into what you want to do. So you can see George Kittles probably still going to be on a snap count, you know, limit your, you're talking 15 snaps offensively for Braden Willis and all the special teams.

31:35I like brainless. I'm, I'm actually a pretty big fan of this guy. I don't think that he has a high ceiling, but he's somebody that makes everybody around a better. I really liked him in the draft process. They gave him their gold helmet designation. They've kept him around. This is an opportunity frame for sure. I mean, this is a major opportunity. Let's get your thoughts on the matchup of last week. The Niners got a 20 point win against the Rams. And since the game was played, we've had time to watch it over. Maybe watch the all 22 look at all the breakdowns and numbers. Give me a takeaway from, from the Niners 20 point win over the Rams. What stood out to you most? Yeah, I think I love this scheme. I love the call of Rahim Morris, switching the defense completely at the second half coming out with that too high deep safety look, transitioning into a dime package. Man, we even saw cover zero. Like you remember Steve Wilkes like getting like the bus with the cover zero blitz. Man, you saw multiple covers zeroes, but it was the timing and the tempo of Rahim Morris, which I just loved.

32:45So the scheme was spot on. Obviously you held the Rams to seven points. That's huge. But the players that stood out to me most like I Fred Warner was the best player on the field for either team shocker, right? Like he was the best. He was incredible. And so then I was like, all right, like who do I want to give my film awards to and we used to do this whenever I coach down in Texas. It was like, all right, who do we highlight that maybe we didn't know made such a big impact day of the game. You'll back through the coaches tape to Marcus Robinson, up in stout, Colt McIvets, Marquis, Siegel, Dominique, Poonie. That was my all consistent team. Those were the guys that just it was so hard to find a play with those five guys in a negative sense at all. Because when you go through the tape with your team, you get out these sheets and you judge yourself on every single play. You get a double plus, you get a double negative single plus single negative or just a zero, which means you didn't positively or negatively impact the play.

33:49Those guys, no negatives. When was the last time we've been able to say that about a safety, Marquis, Siegel, Johnny on spot wasn't even targeted, even though he was the first predetermined read by staffer several times, he just kept taking away the reads. So Stafford would look be like, oh, 36 can't go at that guy. He's in perfect position. I'm going to go elsewhere. There was just so much consistent play. Connor Colby had a lot of negatives, but he stepped up so much so they didn't even rotate at left guard. This was a wonderful game and for people that were kind of players that were kind of in out. Are they really a starter? Do you have a problem here? A lot of guys stepped up to Marcus Robinson was freaking awesome. Some of the best blocking from a wide receiver position. I've seen since probably three years ago, Joanne Jennings to Marcus Robinson. He did everything right. Yeah, there were there were a lot of positives, right? Coach Jack put this out today says Kyle Shanahan on the 49ers interior offensive line play against the Rams. I asked him about it today because I was talking to Greg Cosell on a stream this morning and Greg Cosell said, hey, man, when I watched the film, the Niners interior offensive line was phenomenal.

35:05So I asked Kyle today, I said, Kyle, what did you think? What did you think of your interior offensive line and the job they did against the Rams? He said, I thought they were unbelievable. The past protection especially. And then he was asked, hey, did you, did was the plan to flip flop Colby and Carver Willis and he's like, no, there was no plan on rotating the players, not in the Rams game, not in this game this week. So they've gone to Conor Colby as the starter at left guard and they're going to roll with it at least initially. But I thought the 49ers interior, which, you know, God knows I've been critical of Brendel and Poonie and Colby and, you know, those guys got their lunch handed to them in Seattle in the playoffs. And I just didn't think there was enough strength there. But man, they've worked on their game. They've come back. They all look really, really motivated. The Niners interior offensive line. I mean, they ran for 6-8, a carry. They kept pressure off of Brock Pertie. They ran the ball at the 4-2-5 nickel in the middle.

36:11As soon as they jumped to in the third quarter to, you know, their 5-2 front. Shanahan immediately made the adjustment and started running to the edges. It just seemed like Shanahan was a couple steps ahead of David Shula. Like David Shula decided in Los Angeles, you know, well before they ever got on the plane. We're going to, we're going to play our 4-2-5 nickel and we're going to stick with it. And they were like daring the Niners to run it against their, against their nickel. And the Niners ran it 14 times against their nickel and had a lot of success doing it. So that then they had to eventually go away from it took them to like the middle of the third quarter. And then the Niners went ran successfully to the edges. So I kind of feel like it was a big, a big victory for Kyle Shanahan in his battle against Shula. And probably the ice hit on the cake or you talked about how they started attacking the perimeter in the run game. I don't know if you saw the Kalen Black. It was the outside crack toss with a counter built in where Kalen Black act like, you know, he took the step out like it was a counter tray play came back underneath and hit that backside a gap.

37:22Only got like four or five yards, but it was like an ultimate middle finger play call or situation, whereas the game was intact. They finally started stacking outside the tight end to take away the perimeter run. Then they ran that outside crack toss with the counter built into it. It was just like, man, Kyle was a step ahead the entire time. And you know, we could talk about travel plans and all they were tired and whatever. No coaching offense defense special teams not close in this game. It was a coaching clinic put on by the 49ers. It was impressive. It really was. It was a very impressive deal. A not just Kyle. Let's talk a little bit about Rahim Morris for a second because I thought, Rahim Morris, you know, going into the game. I had hopes that the 49ers would figure something out. But a lot of it was just based on a wing and a prayer. It's like, where is the sack is going to come from? And they got none.

38:25Where was the pressure going to come from? How are they going to cover? Can Lenore stand up? Can green stand up? Well, Rahim did a few different things that I thought were interesting. One, he instead of playing left right on the corner or matching up, they went Lenore to the boundary and green to the field side. The entire game didn't matter who what they were covering or where they were in the game. They went green to the field. Lenore to the boundary. And then the Niners didn't get any sacks on Stafford, but also diggy zoo. They got eight hits and four from most so diggy zoo. And to me, the Niners won this game largely because of the interior of their offensive and defensive lines. The inside rush, you know, the pressure that they were giving Stafford in the middle, he was feeling that. And they did some stunts off of some loaded fronts and they got the looper kind of free running through the A gap. And you could tell that Stafford noticed that if you're a quarterback and you're seeing defense lineman, you know, run full bore through the A gap, that's a disconcerting feeling.

39:42Because you know that your head could be on a platter for one of these guys. So I just think that they found a way without blitzing the only set five rushers three times. So they found a way to pressure and impact Stafford, move them off the spot and speed them up a little bit without blitzing. And last year, I think he had 20 touchdowns and one pick against the blitz. So you really can't blitz them. So it was like, I kept wondering how the Niners can do this. They don't get a lot of pressure with their front four. And if you blitz this guy is 20 touchdowns, one pick with a crazy passer rating. And so how are you going to do it? But Rahim did it. You know, sometimes he brought linebackers, sometimes he brought DBs. You know, they they they played some games up front. They moved some guys around. It was it was a it was a beautiful thing to watch. And I'm just kind of wondering, do you think that Rahim can replicate that kind of a deal every week?

40:47Seems hard. It is. And I love the fact that he can do it in different ways. You talked about not blitzing when the Rams fell behind and you knew they were going to be pass happy. You were able to go to this double stunt that they kept doing it. So like guys like Oak Bowl, Caronco and James Thompson Jr. They were going to do didn't really show up a lot on tape. But whenever you watch the stunts, they were pickers. They were freaking they were just setting screens. And so a lot of the plays that came free Grace and Halton, the bossa, these players that were getting hits on the court of Osu, Digi Zua was because you had guys playing unselfishly. They were just setting screens against offensive lineman. And so they would do a double over. So both defensive tackles would go to pick, you know, the outside guy of the defensive end of the defensive end would come in the backside. And so what it does is we're not going to get this initial quick pressure. But if you hold that ball for three seconds, somebody's coming Scott free.

41:47And Matt Stafford is a statue. The biggest challenge I see moving forward into the dolphins is my biggest fears Malik Willis with his legs scrambling. Because you can't do a lot of those same stunts with a mobile quarterback because you have to be so conscious of not letting the quarterback outside, you know, their scramble lanes, their rush lanes. So this week, I think you are going to see a lot more blitzes because you're not near as terrified of the white receiver options, which you highlighted early with all the youth there. So I think this will be a high blitz week. I think there are going to be I think they were at 19% blitz rate. If I'm not, if I'm not mistaken, I could see this being a closer to 30, 35% which is usually where he more. Historically has been he's always been even last year with the Falcons top five blitz rate. So the fact that you had a non mobile quarterback. And Matt Stafford that doesn't take sacks and can dice you up against the blitz. I don't feel the same way about that with Malik Willis.

42:49I think that this is a week where you do more fire zones. You do bring five and six man pressure. I see that blitz rate almost doubling this week against the dolphins. What do you think of the Niners defensive tackle play? I mean, OSA was big time.

43:54Grayson Haltton made played well on the goal line in the goal line stand. And James Thompson who I talked to in the locker room today for an extended period of time. You know, I thought he, you know, he's not 100% but he was in their plan and he's strong and I thought there were times where he got some pretty good push. They didn't get any sacks, but they definitely got some a pressure impact. I kind of I kind of like to what I saw. I know, you know, they're down Alfred Collins. And you know, they picked up McKinley Jackson for the for the practice squad to try to take column spot. But what did you think? Obviously, OSA had a great game. But what do you think of James Thompson junior? Where do you think you're Grayson Haltton? Yeah, I think that they're in kind of a negative position because I think James Thompson junior and Grayson Haltton are pass or a specialist from the defensive tackle position. That's why they were brought in. That's what they do. The problem is you're asking them to anchor against duo in third and short and goal line situation. That's not what they're, that's not their game.

44:58So, but you don't have the defensive tackles. You brought in McKinley Jackson. I think he that is his game. That is what he does. But you ask these guys to say, look man, we know your past rushers. We got anybody else. We're going to kick key on why inside in short yardage, which we usually do a NASCAR packages. Like we got defensive ends playing three technique on third and two. We got to have snaps where you guys play up to you got to be runstuffers. It was challenging. I thought CJ West did the worst and that's kind of part of his game. CJ West had a lot of really bad snaps. We saw this last year coming back from injury. James Thompson Jr had some grace in Halton had some major negative snaps, but a lot of positives. And again, that goal line play you're talking about. There was another really good play. He had against the double team in the middle of the field. But he had about four plays where he got washed down two to three gaps over some of the big runs in the third quarter. Those were on him and CJ West. And then they bring in OSA and then shut down the run completely after that. So it's a learning, you know, development.

46:07Grace and Halton has the potential to be the best rookie in this draft class. The highs are there. Can you hide him enough against those double team duo inside zone plays to not get that negative tape and to not, you know, affect his his morale and his confidence. But Grace at Halton has it. Whatever it is, you want him to be a password specialist only the Niners cannot afford that luxury. Maybe mechanically Jackson can help with that where he gets 12 snaps and it's just on those run down situations. But it's going to be a thin room all year. Like the it's going to be a thin room and if a trade does happen close to the deadline. Probably going to be at that defensive tackle position. It's the one position the Niners value more than the rest of the NFL. And so there's a lot of promise. There's a lot of potential consistency is going to be the constant climb for those young defensive tackles in that room. And so that's something we got to check back with every week.

47:10Yeah, there's no question. I mean, it's it's a week to week proposition for sure. But overall, I mean, I think if you're the 49ers, you got to be pretty pleased considering, you know, you had Alfred Collins and you put him on the roster. He gets hurt. You're kind of in a lurch. But you know what? All of a sudden you still have Grace and Halton and James Thompson to really young talented rookies. Thompson's very strong. The Haltens of very good leverage player. Very quick has great quick feet. I thought those were two of their better rookies to be completely honest as far as the way the nine. I mean, obviously the dolphins are playing a lot of rookies. The Niners didn't play as many. But I thought of the rookies that I saw obviously Kale on black had a really good game. But Grayson, Halton and James Thompson played regular rotation snaps inside and were effective. So I'm, you know, obviously it's tough to lose Collins, but it's great to have drafted Halton and signed James Thompson after the draft and both of them make the final 53 and I thought both of them played some meaningful snaps in week one.

48:19Yeah, it may you could even talk, you know, if you want to extend these young guys, Romello height, which whatever narrative you have on Romello height, the defense of in rookie. There is tape to provide he got pancake maybe four times. He keeps trying to just just yeah, I mean also when he's engaged and here comes like he's engaged with the tackle and here comes the guard. The guard can just to hand shiver him and put him on the ground and end the play for him. I'm thankful he's got that guardian kept because he very easily could add a concoge like he got Molly walks a handful of times, but the flip side of that if you stay with the coaching tape into the fourth quarter. When it was past situations only he got several impactful plays where it was like dude, he was just so close so close to getting to staffer and so. I'm not on as down on Romello height I was at the game. I was like do Romello height sucks. It has been good to preseason, you know, he can only win one on once with the spin move that doesn't work in the NFL, but I came away from the tape thinking you know what I saw enough of 94 to where it's like dude if you can just limit some of these major negatives.

49:36You can see it and so the explosive the power hands the jump the bend there were moments where you saw it and so it's just like man can we can we uncork that a little bit more each week. We'll see how he does against mobile quarterbacks, but I'm walking away after the tape Larry especially in the fourth quarter if you want to be a Romello height truth or go watch the fourth quarter tape. There's a lot of very positive hand usage, you know good band good burst so I overall bad but I just leave it a little hope out there for you in the Romello height fan club because you're going to have to have him produce at some point. You know so many other guys on that defensive line have already stepped up I thought he on white, you know he's very versatile. You can play inside. He can play outside. He's fast Thompson's very strong. He's made some good plays. Also what a phenomenal addition he is and Haltton has got quickness plays with leverage. I mean there were several things to like about the 49er defense of front in this game considering the Rams have a really good offensive line and only give up 23 sacks all of last year.

50:45They didn't give up any to the Niners, but the Niners pressure package bothered Stafford and Stafford was sped up. I mean speeding up a hall of fame or coming off an MVP year is a hard thing to do in the NFL and the Niners did it. I also kind of feel like the people that are super negative on jade and dougger might be missing the boat because I get it. He's not exactly what you want as an edge russia. He's not exactly what you want as a off the ball linebacker but you know what he's one of the youngest players in the draft this year. He's one of the subsequently one of the youngest players in the league right now. So he's a very young player. He's got a great frame a six four six five two hundred forty pound frame with long arms and I just feel like he did some good things. I feel like jade and dougger, you know, especially if they're going to if they're going to you know try to play some games up front and you know put him kind of on the solo side and you know you can you can play some games.

51:51I mean the Niners played a lot of games and to me he is a guy that you want kind of to change the angles. You don't want him going stripe on a stripe trying to battle somebody he's just too lean. But if you can get him moving laterally and you know you involved in some of these stunts. I think he could be incredibly effective both ramello and dougger. Yeah, I agree you know dougger looked like a rookie and it got better and better as the game goes on. I think a lot of times there'll be a play or two on the broadcast coverage where you can tell like 53 to your key you read the wrong key. You're going the wrong way you're going against the flow of the ball. It's so like those those plays kind of stand out to a lot of people and people kind of form their opinion around man he looked really bad on that play what she did. But there were no explosive plays to his fault. It was a learning moment. But you still are seeing the quality tackling. You still are seeing the instincts at times where he is just man he's seeing it.

52:59It's just not there all the time repetitively and do you have to give it to McVeigh like McVeigh is cloak and dagger he can scheme some stuff up and I really thought jaded dougger was going to be the forefront of the McVeigh game plan. What really a lot of plays towards him. And so I'm very happy with the with the performance jaded dougger turned in. It's not amazing. It's not oh yeah he's rookie the year. It's none of those things. It's okay. He's building you talk to this he's played linebacker for a year. One year. One year. One year. And it was a Louisiana of raging cages. Yeah. How many times are going to reference Louisiana today. I don't know not enough time. But no, like the the arrow is pointing up. It really, really is. And so the longer that he gets these reps and gets his feet wet and just understands lining up to Fred Warner. What she didn't get to do in the preseason right because he was out there taking snaps with other guys. He's got to get used to green ball. He's got to get used to warm. He's got to understand where to be what to do and all those things. And so this is just the longer that he stays in the fire.

54:07Eventually the blow up is going to come in a positive way. He is an explosive player. You were really high on him Larry and rightfully so my problem was can he read a defense. He's never been asked to do it. Just going to take snaps takes reps. No question, but he looks like he's a good fit for what they do. All right, let's do this. Let's take John and I and put us in the corner and we will call up our prize picks lineup. Did I put us in the right corner. What happened there? Hold on, hold on. Yeah, there we go. There we go. I like the dolphins of a young secondary and not a lot of past rush. So I like Brock, pretty more than 19.5 in the fantasy score. I think it's a 20 point day for party. I think the party's going to throw for three bills in this game. I think this dolphin secondary is young and I think he's going to roast them. So that those are we got two there.

56:15We'll come up here. We'll cancel the Niners will put Miami in the box. We can go with a couple. A couple of dolphins here. What do you like? Who do you like? You get Caleb Douglas? You got Chris Bell? You have. I like you over on Caleb Douglas past targets four and a half. That one stands out to me big time. You got eight targets in this very first game. I think the dolphins will be playing from behind. I think they will be one dimensional. I think that they're going to have to throw the ball a lot. You got to throw it to somebody. And Caleb Douglas look really good. Yeah. He was very cool. I would be shocked if he leads all Ricky White receivers in scoring categories. Almost triple crowns the rickities. He looks good. Yeah, I'm going to I like. I like Devon a Chan over 14 rush attempts. I mean, look at the week one. They couldn't get a Chan going for whatever reason.

57:16and they're going to come to Levi's on Sunday intent on getting HN rolling. And I don't I don't know if it's going to work or not, but I think they don't have a backup running back worth anything. They're going to give him 15 rushes. That'll be my guess. So let's let's put in our lineup. And there you go. So this is what we went with. We'll view our lineup. And this time we went with a $20 for pick power play. Christian McCaffrey is going to have at least a 14 yard run. Brock Peri is going to have a fantasy score over 19.5. Okay, a couple other thoughts we want to get into. One of the stories of the week, and I don't know if it's a legitimate story or not, but I do think it is legit.

59:21And that is Jeremy Fowler saying the 49ers had interest in Joey Porter, Jr. And here is the story. There it is right there. Cochiaq had it on on X. Basically, Jeremy Fowler listed potential trade fits for Joey Porter, Jr. who's in a contract situation with the Steelers. He wants $30 million a year. He's a great corner. And Fowler named the Niners as a team that could target him. Now, first thought, I think we would all say, no, can't see it. But you got to think a little deeper on this one. One, he says the 49ers cornerback rotation looks stout Thursday against the Rams, but seasons are long. And Porter would help the defense immensely. Niners do have eight picks and next year's draft. They have around 45 million in the available cap space, though. The plan is to roll a big chunk of that over to cover their big expenditures going into next year. So it's not like they really have that much money to play with.

1:00:23But he goes on to say Porter, opposite Demo, Lenore would form a stout. One, two, cornerback combo, no pun intended. Of course, up to stout is on the Niners. Um, you know, he, this is a, as you can tell by the picture, Joey Porter is 34 inch arms. He's a dominant one on, you know, man to man corner. Um, and I, I think this is really, really intriguing. Um, and I, at first, I, my first thought was, no, no, it's probably not a fit for the 49ers. Um, but he can play press. He can play man. Um, it's over in Pittsburgh. So, you know, he, he wants out. They want to move them. Uh, they don't want to renegotiate. They don't want to pay him that kind of money. Um, he's a very long quarter corner. He does lack a little bit of long speed. But this guy can play man to man. And what's the new trend in the NFL? I was talking to Greg Cosell about this earlier today.

1:01:24He said there's a lot of three by one sets where the safety gets drawn over to the three wide receiver side. And it's basically the boundary corner playing, you know, zero man, you know, zero coverage and, you know, locked up man to man. He's like, in that situation, if you have Joey Porter, Jr. As the boundary corner, he can, he can be locked up in zero man. And you're totally fine. The other thing that's kind of interesting is that who is making the call on this? I think it's for him, Morris. And Raheem Morris is the guy that wanted, um, Jaylin Ramsey and L.A. to begin with. And why is that? And they had good corners there because he's a difference maker. There's a belief in the NFL that if you have locked down corners, you can do all other things. And it opens up all kinds of things that you can potentially do schematically with your fronts to try to generate rush because you've got to get corners that can be locked out.

1:02:25You can blitz because you can keep your corners locked up in man to man. So normally I would have said, no, I don't see it. I don't think it's a fit for the Niners. And there's a lot of talk at a Detroit that the Lions who obviously lost out on Terry on Arnold and Jeff Akuda and all these guys. Um, they haven't been trying to get that big dominant fiscal number one corner. They haven't been able to do it. I just think that the Niners love second generation football players. They love McCaffrey. They love people whose dads played in the NFL. This guy's dad played in the NFL. And you have Raheem Morris making the call. I think Raheem Morris sees the defensive picture from the back to the front. And, and I don't, you know, yes, Ronaldo Green had a good week. But you know what? Your third and fourth and fifth corners in today's NFL play and play a lot. And they play your third and fourth and fifth corners play more than your strong side linebacker as far as total snaps. So I've heard they want a two and a four.

1:03:27What do you think of trying to jump the line and saying, here's a two of four and Ephesians price stock. Here's a tall long corner. You can plug in right now, Pittsburgh. And we'll give you your two and your four. And yes, it's a high price to pay. And especially because you got to pay this guy 30 million bucks. But you know what? 49ers are not co-sell made the point. Who are they really paying on their defense? They're paying Warner and Bosa and Lenore. But not a lot. They're not paying tons of money to the other guys on that defense. So they could probably fold this guy into their into their plan. I, you know, the Niners that we think of in past years, I don't think, I think they would think more front to back. But the Niners with Raheem Morris as the defensive coordinator may think back to front. And I think that Jeremy Fowler didn't just throw the Niners in that name, in that mix for for giggles.

1:04:29I think that's sourced. I bet you anything that he's talked to somebody and they have interest. I think Porter wants to go there. I think all players that want to make us feel want to go there. Like this is a destination. And people can miss me with the offseason stuff and the substation and prices for whatever else. No, no, no, Mike Evans, Christian Kirk, guys want to be here because it's a winning organization with quality coaching and a quarterback in place. Joey Porter Jr. is awesome. My biggest issue isn't the draft capital you got to give up for him. It's the price. You got to pay up $30 million. And that corner market has just exploded in two weeks. And that's why he's refusing to play. I ain't paying until I get paid. And I just bit through a lot of that. You're better with Joey Porter. Now I do think the 40 Diders corner room is strong. I mean, you're you're finding creative ways to get four corners on the field

1:05:33with that dime package because Jack Jones, you can't keep on the sidelines. Two damn good. You've got demo signed through 2029. Renardo Green is signed through next season. Up to the stouts got two more seasons on top of that. So you've got continuity and youth in the corner room. Joey Porter, I would argue is better than any corner you have. I would put him above demo. Oh, he's their number. He'll be their number one corner. He'll be the number one guy. Yeah, he's that good. So I'm okay with the second round pick. I struggle going more than that. Once we get to the 30 million a year, I'm just like, dude, how do you swing that? Niners are negative. Not just next year, but the following year already. But he's a difference maker. He's like, I struggle with the draft capital and the salary cap on top of it, especially whenever you have bigger needs on the defensive line. I give you going to trade for a position. But no team is trading players now.

1:06:35This is a unique situation. So for all the trade, you know, whatever stuff that gets put out there, most of them not realistic because teams are not selling right now. This is different because you have a disgruntled cap situation. So this is a player that is available. And so that's why I think it does deserve credence. I'm not willing to give up a second and 30 million a year, even if the players worth it just because the 40 hours cap situation moving forward. I would rather resign trade green law. I would rather bring in some more defensive lineman. But damn, getting him on there, that would be who you're going to, you're on a bench, Ronaldo green. You're just going to have Ronaldo green not take snaps anymore. I want them all. I want to keep Ronaldo green too. I want to keep Ronaldo green. What if you do? Okay, I'm sorry. But the guy who's getting my game ball is the guy that I talked to at his locker. And I walked up to him and I said, bro, you're just blowing, you're just blowing dudes up out there. Who do you think I was talking to? Also, Diky Zua. Well, I've been good too. Oh, I was wrong. I was wrong. No, you're wrong. You're wrong. I just, I went up to my mic, dude. This guy just brought his body up and just hurled himself at a number of different guys and just, you know,

1:17:51I'm like, that's going to leave a mark. That's going to leave a mark. And it's like talking to him about it today and seeing the smile on his face. He loves where he's at. He loves his fit in this defense. And he is ready for lift off. And I would expect you said Caleb Douglas at a big week. Caleb Douglas did have a big week, but he's also pretty skinny. And it's like Caleb Douglas, you better watch out because Marke Siegel, Marke Siegel is is bringing bringing the bringing the heat at safety. So he gets my under the radar game ball who gets your under the radar game ball. Now I'm staying in the secondary, up and stout. I thought I couldn't find one negative play on the kid. Every single thing that he did was a splash play consistently. And you know, we talked about pressures on Stafford. What had to pick six if Stafford didn't ground one of them. Very positive in the run game, got a tackle for loss, got two of the hits on Stafford himself. I think upton stout is the like people always say like, man, who is the last home run draft pick?

1:18:56You got to go back to Brock party. I think upton stout is him. I think that he has potential to be the best nickel corner in the NFL. And is just such and I love this too because Miami runs more 11 personnel than almost anybody week one in the NFL. So upton stout's going to get even more snaps this week. I hate whenever I like Jaden Dugger and I wanted to keep getting those snaps, but I hate being in the 4.3. I went upton stout out there every single snap of the game. I think he's our best corner overall. I don't want to move him outside of nickel, but I am just president of the upton stout fan club. He gets my underappreciated ball of the game. Pound for pound one of the toughest players on the team for sure. Play so physical. He's a small. So on the field. So physical. So physical. My favorite play in the game was when stout wasn't wasn't didn't stout blitz on a play where Jones got a P.B.U. Yep. That was a great play because Jones is great in coverage and stout's great as a blitzer. And when you can blitz stout and replace him in the coverage with Jones.

1:20:01And that's win win. Right. You're getting the rusher and you're getting the guy you might get the pick. I think if they did that a bunch, you're you're either stout's going to get some sacks or Jones is going to get some picks. But I love the idea of using those two guys stout to speed up the quarterback and Jones to pick him off. Jones Jones. I got to talk to Jones. By the way, Jones walks around the locker room like he's like it's his like he owns that stadium. It's awesome. I mean, the confidence you got to love the confidence in a true corner. He played eight snaps and made such a big impact. Yeah, like eight snaps. Get that guy out there. Oh, that guy out there. That guy's that guy's this is my hesitation. Talk about the trade and Porter because it's like, dude, I want Jack Jones to get more snaps. I want up to and stout to get more snap snaps like corners is a strength of this team and then it's current situation. I get it, but here's the other thing. When you run out of corners, you're kind of done. And when you run out of corners, then what's left?

1:21:01And if you're worried about your corner depth, I don't know if I can lean on price. And if you can get this guy for price, stock and a pick, man, I'm I would be all about that. The money part is a big question, but I, you know, I really think Rahim wants to pay. I think he wants another dominant back, back, you know, back end guy. And Porter is also a force off the edge. Yeah, very good. He likes to blitz. I kind of feel like Porter could be Porter's raw to he's got that rawness that, um, that Joey had that his dad had. And I just feel like the Niners probably are in love with that. I, my guess is he'll wind up in Detroit, but I'd love to see him here. Um, all right, it is time for our supers. You know, those the pick price seems fair, seems fair. It almost seems like it might be a good deal. Men' Dez says, what's up, guys? If the Niners have a great start, do you see them, making some trades? I see them tweets. I see some tweets earlier this week about bringing back to Forest Buckner. I don't think to Forest Buckner is coming back, but I do think the 49ers are going to make trades. But how aggressive they'll be, I'm not sure. It's hard to say, Lynch has always referenced it like a challenge to the roster. If you guys play well and we get to November and we're right there at the deadline, we will step up and support the locker room with a significant move of some kind. He's always done that. And I love the move that he made last year for Key on White. Look how good Key on White looks. He looks fantastic. So I'm a big fan of Lynch.

1:26:04And I know lots of people are like, oh, Lynch is struggled in this net. We can all see, but personnel is hard. It's not easy. If it was super easy, there would be dynasties left and right. It's a hard thing to pick players. I'm not giving him an excuse. And just because I like him, I'm just saying, he's done some good trades. He's made some good picks. He's had some mistakes, but I don't think I would fire him. I think I would still like to see John running the show. They have had deep rosters many of the years he's been there. So that's kind of, I had to think this one over because I really don't want John to get fired. But at the same time, I'm really frustrated by some of the moves they've made. And but that's where it sits with me. I'm frustrated by it. Wouldn't mind seeing them be better at drafting. But maybe the solution is, you know, FM damn picks like Luss need and trading a few of them for veterans and trying to get over the top that way. If you get close enough, it's not a bad idea.

1:27:04And they might be in that close enough window. All right, John, that is going to do it for us. I'll give you the final word before we bolt for the door. It's always fun to stream with you.
