49ers Defensive Line Crisis | NFL News

About this episode

San Francisco 49ers face a major defensive line setback as star edge rusher Sam Okuayinonu breaks his foot in practice, forcing him to miss the season opener in Australia and likely sideline him for the rest of the year. With Mykel Williams also sidelined on PUP, the team rushed Khalid Kareem to the practice squad — possibly even for Week One snaps — to plug the gap. Okuayinonu, a versatile and productive defender with 39 tackles and 3 sacks last season, now faces surgery again after previously recovering from foot surgery. The Niners will lean heavily on Keion White, Nick Bosa, Romello Height, and Kareem to fill the void, testing their depth at a critical time.

On September 7th, alright so the San Francisco 49ers are gearing up for their season opener against the Rams, but it's happening way out in. Australia and they've just hit a snag. Defensive N Sam O'Quay No Noo went down with a broken foot during practice. Coach Kyle Shanahan called it a serious injury and the team is hoping he can make it back later in the year, but it's definitely a hit to there. Defensive Line Depth. This comes at a tough time because they're already missing Michael Williams, who's starting the season on the PUP list. To fill the gap, they brought in defensive N Khaled Kareem and added him to the practice squad. He might even get some snaps in week one, which is pretty quick. O'Quay No Noo, who's 28, was a pretty solid player for them the last couple of years. He was versatile, able to play inside on passing downs, and last season he put up 39 tackles and 3-6. He didn't even make the trip to Australia with the team. The injury apparently happened last week when someone stepped on his foot during practice.

He'd actually had surgery on that foot before, and now he's looking at another surgery and a likely long recovery, potentially missing a big chunk of. The upcoming season. So with O'Quay No Noo out and Williams on the sidelines, the Niners are leaning on guys like Keon White, Nick Bosa, Ramello Height, and now Kareem at. As of end, it's going to be interesting to see how they adjust their rotation with these key absences. This has been NFL News Today, powered by AI. I'm Corey with the story.
