263: Mockingjay Part 2: "Pop, pop, POP!"

Hi everybody, welcome to Akafe, a year-weekly deep dive into the fantasy literature and fandoms that we love. I'm Lormary, and I'm Jessica Pory. And today we are concluding our discussion of the Hunger Games

1:04by watching Mockingjay Part 2, the 2015 film directed by Francis Lawrence, which is really exciting because, as we're wrapping this one up, we're also kind of timing it to sunrise on the reeping, which will be out in November. We're going to make sure that we cover the book there. I don't know how I've remained spoiler-free this whole time. I'm going to ask everybody to let's keep it that way. But Laura had her own experience reading it. I know we're really excited. And then, I don't know, maybe we just kick it off with all of our characters and we could have some post-reading discussions because this film picks up right where we left off and Mockingjay Part 1. Honestly, when I was going to start this, I was like, I don't even remember where we left off. Should I go back and watch the Part 1?

2:05No need to because you are told right away. But, Laura, did you watch this film in the theaters? Like, didn't you watch this? Wasn't your first time watching it? No, I watched this in the theaters. I'm so glad you asked this question because for the first chunk of this film until they get to the courtyard, I was like, we've covered this. We've covered this. I've covered this with Jessica. I know I have. We've talked about this. I was so sure. But then, when Boggs gets his legs slowing off, I was like, actually, I don't think we have. Actually, no. Actually, I don't think we have because I wouldn't have remembered the conversation from here on up. And that is because every time we have covered a Hunger Games movie, I just continue on with the cycle as I am known to do. So, they're all just kind of like one bait thing on my head. So, I was, again, so sure that you and I had covered this.

3:06So, I, yeah, I've seen this probably way too many times. That being said, it's a long-ass fucking movie. See, this is where I remember Mocking J. Part One was long, but did not feel long. And this one felt like, you know what I, you know what I mean? You say, oh, this is a travel book. This is a book too. This felt like a travel book. And in a way, I knew what was going to happen. I knew kind of like the big things. I mean, I think I've even, you know, speaking to how often you've, you watch these. I've walked into your house, and it's the last 30 minutes are on pause. And then I'll be doing something you're like, hold on, I really just have to finish off last 30 minutes. I'm almost at the end. So, I know that there's a frequency there, and I've known the last end, but I just didn't, I never watched the whole of Part Two. So, the beginning, I'm like, okay, that's a refresh,

4:07and I go, oh my gosh, like this is just kind of dragging. And when it's supposed to be the final film, it was feeling very anti-climatic until like 45 minutes and hour it. Yes, and I think if you are a long time listener, you'll understand what I feel and how I feel about Jennifer Lawrence. I want to say that that does not apply here. So, as you recap, Laura Marie's feelings on Jennifer Lawrence, I need to warm up to her in her movies. Again, like 45 minutes in, I have to like, she just doesn't work for me until it's like, we're like deep into the story. I buy her right away here. This cold open, absolutely. Yeah, absolutely. When she's like, my name is Katniss Everdeen, it's like, fuck yeah, bitch, say your name. Let's go. We have revolution to do, you know? And I like, really feel that. So, I just, I find it very, very interesting then that you're like,

5:13what was your experience here? Were you like, it's dragging, but like the moments where you were supposed to be inspired, did you feel inspired? I think I was just like, I don't even, I don't know if I felt inspired. I think I was angry for her because she's still the mouthpiece, because even at the end, and obviously spoilers for this, when Plutarch's writing her the letter, and he was like, if I would, if I had to do it all over again, I would. I would. I was so mad for her because, yes, she's the chosen one. Yes, this is her play. Yes, all of these things. She is, she is the face of this revolution. But how exhausting. You, she knows that her sister died, and she has somebody saying, but I choose it again. One thing that I really, really liked about Katniss, and I feel like I really picked it up on the second watch here, was that she was, oh, she was kind of pulling,

6:14throwing up glass spoilers, and Aileen, where she's kind of having her, like she's being told one thing, and she's like, you know what, I'm going to have this whole other plan, and I'm going to follow my plan. And Plutarch knows this about her, and that's why he's like, this is why I pick you, this is why I do these things. Like, I would do it all over again, because she's always thinking what other people aren't. Except in the very instance, where she's like, oh my god, y'all, I lied to you, and they're like, yeah, duh, you're really bad at it. Like, I know, that part was really funny, because they're like, yes, and? Yes, we're all aware, like, duh. This is why we make the moves we do. So it was very funny, it was very funny. Okay, lots of funny things in this movie, a lot of them have to do with Gail. Fuck him, god. All right, but we're not there yet. Cold open, cold open, catness. She was fucking strangled my PETA,

7:15less we forget, less we forget. She's recovered here, and she has to say her name. She's all bruised, just to like, struggle through that. Cool. And she immediately wants to see PETA, and Plua Tarx, like, actually, no. No, you're not gonna go back in there. What are you doing? No, we are though gonna send your sister. And Mickey watched. And Mickey watched. It's gonna be totally fine. He won't hurt her. She's, he's strapped down. What? I find that catness put up no fight to that, which is out of character for her. Yeah, she, she, that is totally out of character for her. But it's, it's interesting to watch, because here, it's PETA is up against his own memory, because he's brainwashed, but there's slow memories eventually coming back and they're doing the whole real, not real. And, but in a way where I don't feel like it's the memory loss trope that we don't like.

8:16No, oh my god. Oh my god. Hey, Mitch's book is very important here. If you read Hey, Mitch's book, then you would understand why everybody is treating PETA, the why, why all of the elders are treating PETA the way that they are. It is vital information. And it is very interesting now that we have these books, then we have this conversation that we're gonna have at the end of this episode. Because it's a very like shadow hunter store glass situation like what, like what order do you read all this in? Because I feel that you need to read Hey, Mitch's book way before this, way before this, because you would have a different perspective on this, because it's not memory loss. It's something like way worse and like way just more awful. And it happens in Hey, Mitch's book too. And you're just like, yeah, you're like,

9:16so what happens here is that PETA is not well. And he starts freaking out. And he says the things like, you know, she's a much is a liar. You need to kill her. And Prem is like, actually, PETA, what you're saying isn't real. And that is something that PETA is just gonna latch on to. And he's gonna use that real, not real thing for the rest of the movie. But Prem says it right here. Is that the pattern? Is that the, I think so? I think so. Yeah, it's in the first 10 minutes. That's our pattern. Yeah, I mean, there's a lot, there's a lot, but we can keep going. You know what you're saying is it real. Buh-buh-buh-buh-buh-buh-buh-buh-buh-buh-buh-buh-buh-buh-buh. Uh, title card. Woo-woo-woo-woo-woo. Uh, I can say. Woo-woo-woo-woo-woo. I know you're a lot. That's a title card. I mean, that's a title card. Uh, and then, and then we have our meeting with Cohen. Uh, with this fuck ass wig, my god.

10:18Julia Moore. Julia Moore, damn. Um, I love it though. Amazing. Um, it is so interesting the way that they are using catnus. And I love the end when snow and catnus are having their conversation. And snow is like, she played us both. We were so busy looking at each other. She played us four fools. And you feel her, I'm going to say sinisterness, but that's not a word. I don't know, but you know what I'm saying. That you feel like Cohen being sinister. Yeah. I feel like she talks. Yes, but I, and I feel like we, you knew that in the, you know, whether you're reading the book. But definitely when you're watching the movie, you feel that in the first part one. You're questioning the delivery. It's really the delivery.

11:20Like what is the value of this? Why is she so? And then when it comes to light and this, and I say, keep wanting to say book. Because I do not, I haven't read the books in forever. Um, but I know in this every time like you said, she talks. It is what is your ulterior motive? That was the word I was thinking of. Uh, what is your ulterior motive in all of this? How is it going to serve you? Because that's ultimately what it was. And that's even what Cohen said. He said, she just sat back and watched everybody. Everybody fight all of the districts. They were all going against each other. Like then she can surface and she looks like the winner. Because I love, because that's also not it. Like that's not where it ends. Because when she goes, oh, well, everybody's in such disarray. I'm going to act as, you know, we've decided that I'll be the interim president. And Hey, Mitch is who's we? Who? He clocked that shit so fast.

12:23But I feel like Hey, Mitch kind of, Hey, Mitch is always weary of anybody and rightfully so. Because this is the pattern recognition that some people are just gifted with. We're like, hmm, I'm going to approach this cautiously. Well, you said delivery just come re and of course you would hit on just the thing. Just the thing that I was going to point out, of course. Uh, the delivery of Cohen where Katniss is like, give me something to do. Give me something to do. You've seen where I can do. Send me out to the front line. Send me to the Capitol and Cohen goes, I can't. And she's like her hands over her. She's like, it's like, what? What? What are you doing? Why are you saying like that? You fucking weirdo. Uh, and Katniss is looking at her like, I can't send you to the Capitol. We need to take two. And Katniss is like, okay. Then something to do. What is this? What is this? You weirdo. And she does.

13:23She sends her to two and we get to have a nice conversation with Gail on the plane, a long plane ride. Where Gail says, I saw Peter before we left and I thought something selfish. Shut up, Gail. We know what you thought, Gail. Shut up. Yes, get better. You'll never let him go. You'll never pick me if he doesn't get better. You like, no, we shut up, Gail. I'm such a martyr. I'm doing this for us. So we have a chance. That's basically what it is. He's like, once he gets better, then maybe there's actually a chance that you'll forgive me. Well, I'm not going to Gail. Well, then he says something that I thought was like, oh Liam, are you just poking your head out Liam? He says, what's going on in your head right now? It's like kissing you. It's like kissing somebody drunk. It doesn't count. Oh, doesn't it Liam? Doesn't it? Liam? We don't think that doesn't count. Liam? What? Anyway. Gail.

14:23Don't let your characters bleed together. Cheating asshole. Anyway, Gail on the plane. I'll just quote Chris Hemsworth at one point. Miley Cyrus was the most famous. Because he got it. He got it. And their family. So, and, you know, we, we, we stand Miley in our houses. Yeah. Speak on it. Speak on it. Gail also, again, talking about the pattern. Gail also tells us how Prim is going to die because we over here him talking about what? What are him talking about weapons and two tier explosions and how, you know, one bomb goes off the medics go in to help the wounded. Then the second bomb goes off and Katniss is like, oh, there's no rules in the war. I think it's bum bum bum bum bum. Why would we be listening to that conversation unless it would be incredibly relevant later? Of course, it is. It kills our sister and breaks up our love triangle. You know what? One of those things is excellent. One of those things is wonderful. And it's breaking up this fucking love triangle because, again, long time listeners know the

15:25books, man. I don't know. And it's definitely me watching this as an adult because even when there's the point in this in part two where Gail and Pita are just kind of like having this quote unquote heart to heart about, yeah, I use that loosely. I'm watching this as an adult thinking there should have never been a love triangle. There never should have been a love triangle. This is about a revolution. But like, again, it's also kind of reminding me of spoiler shatter me when Juliet was like, Aaron, other guy, other guy, Aaron, the Aaron's have brother situation. And I'm like, we have a government to bring down. Why are we focusing on the wrong things? We don't have time for this. We don't have time for this. We have to focus. We're all teenagers. We need to focus.

16:25I know it's hard. Let's lock in. Damn. So what happens? We get to meet Gordel and Christie because why is she here? Because she's wonderful. Of course she is. That is, that is, uh, brand of tarth that she has to tell us about the nut because, of course, she does why not. Uh, she tells us about the nut, which is an underground military fortress. I would like more Gwendolyn, please. Why is she only in this specific scene? She's a huge star. She's very tall. And she is incredibly famous. She's a huge star. I wish she was in more things. Because she has such a grace and presence about her. Yes. She's incredible. Um, here she is trying to figure out how to get to this military fortress. Gale, shut up, Gale. Gale. So much Gale. I'm so, oh, I go back to catching fire in the, in book one. We had no Gale. Minimal Gale. Yeah, minimal Gale.

17:25We have a lot of Gale here. It's his idea to use the avalanche to bury the fortress. Again, um, came into paylor. We have to know her. She's in charge of the rebels. Um, then we have more Gale because Gale and Katniss discuss ethics and Gale basically, I mean, sets, sets up the end of the book, which she has already done now several times. The end of the movie, but end the book too. Uh, but which is already done a few times. But he's like, look, I'm fine with the villains dying. I'm fine with people in the capital dying because anybody that lives there and is helping the capital is against us. And Katniss is like, fuck, dude. That's how we got here in the first place. And Gale is like, I don't care what you think. Fuck these people and fuck you for basically having ethics. Yeah, he's, I mean, he, I was going to say he's selfish, but he has been selfish the entire time for the whole series. So that is nothing new.

18:25Yeah, it's absolutely nothing new. Okay. So the bomb goes off. Things, there's survivors, awesome. Katniss starts to do a speech, right? She's starting to like get, she's like feeling herself and then she has a gun drawn on her. And the guy's like, tell me why I shouldn't kill you. And she's like, I can't. And then she starts speech and then she starts speech and she's feeling herself. And she's like, you and you and you turn your weapons to the capital. Turn them to snow and then somebody's like, she got shot. Yeah, once again, we have back in the medical ward at 13. I, the amount of times that Katniss ends up in the med ward in 13. We are. Yeah, I remember that second time I go, did I, because I stream this on Amazon, which by the way seem issue that I had the first time with watching Mark and Jay part one is it was not available in this country and I had to go find it.

19:29Because I didn't have an issue that the last one, but I know you did. You were like tracking it down, which again, you know, not going to say anything, but like, hmm, also interesting why it, or why is it difficult for us to find movies about, you know, dystopian movies about rising against our government. But that being said, they are on Netflix currently right now August. 2026, all of them are on Netflix. So that's probably why there's an elicis thing switch over that you probably got tangled in. I didn't even think to check Netflix. They totally went just to Amazon Prime, like I usually do. Um, shame on me. But that being said, there was once once you got shot and she was back in the hospital, I thought it clicked something wrong because this was after the whole seltzer fiasco that I was like, am I free watching the scene? Did I click something and rewind all the way back?

20:30No, we're just in the hospital again because she was shot bruised long bruised ribs this time. And we get a visit from Joanna and Joanna is annoyed per use. But we love her. And you know, she talked, you know, Katna's talks and she's like, why are you so pissed at me like all the time. And she goes, part of me is because we are expected to bow to you more or less. You're the face of the resistance and everything we do is going to be for you and you're our savior. And the other part is it's that I was hoping you were like a real nasty disingenuine person. And now I'm even more annoyed that you actually believe this stuff and are a real genuine person and you really do believe that we can rise up and win against against our government. Yeah, you know, Joanna is so obviously she's amazing. She's I think my favorite character. She's got she's got the shape Ted here. She immediately takes Katna says morphine. I love her. Katna says like, you should have been the machete. She's like, no one likes me.

21:40And in my head, I was like, no one really likes Katna's either. Like she's she's very hard to like swallow right. She's very easy to inspire. But like her day to day, she's like not an easy person to like be with. So I found that to be very interesting because you could tell Katna. So it's just like, we are like almost the same. Like we are very like, I just I really like that. I like that. We have the dinner with president snow in his circle like dining room where he gets to assassinate Antonias with poison. I'm assuming and something is food is wine, whatever. And it's it's so dramatic. I love how dramatic it is. Like it does not have to be like this. And he always has an evil villain speech to go with his theatrical locked ready to go. Like he's so ready. Like he's like, what's the occasion? What are we celebrating? What's happening? Like, no, it's funny because it's like he wants all these people around him to kiss his ass constantly. And then he's really pissed that people kisses constantly.

22:46Yeah. And then so what he snowed what he says here is like, you know, the catness is dead. Fantastic. You think she's dead though. Where's her body? If she were dead, she would be paraded in the street. She would be a martyr. She's all listening to not dead. Fuck you. You're stupid. And then he says what we're going to do actually you dumb fox is let them into the city. And we're going to create another hunger games. Now in the books, this was the point where I was like, oh, can we not do anything different? Does it have to be, but it has to be though, because it's this old man's obsession, right? Like it, that's, that's what it is. But when I was young and reading this, I was like, I am so sick of this. I'm so sick of this same plot over and over and over again. And Finic even says it later on like, welcome to the 76 hunger games. And I just remember being like, oh my god. And I felt that way in book two as well.

23:50It was like, they're back in the arena. Fuck, dude. Why? But I mean, that also makes sense because he was part of the first hunger games. He established it. And so he knows what it entails and how it's developed and how it's changed with technology over time. I mean, it's become his whole obsession because the person that he loved left him for his, he was a villain. Like there is no morally gray about him, which is again part of the my understanding that Suzanne wrote sunrise on the reaping was to double down because she was kind of getting frustrated that everybody was romanticizing snow. Well, it's because the actor that played him is hot is in the Netflix movie. And I think he looks better as a brunette. Oh, I don't know. He was really hot. I was really digging that. It gives nice, it gives nice drake of vibes as well. He was fancastic for like specific drake go like, dramatic fanfacts. It's good. All right. Back to hunger games. Joanna says my favorite thing. Feel free to take any of this personally as she is reading.

24:59I love that. Now something that I thought was very interesting is that Katniss very rarely says like she. She doesn't want to do something. She'll say it like because she likes to complain, but she'll do it very rarely does she say like with conviction like no, no, I don't want to do that. And she says that here when Hamich is like go go see Peter go go see him right now. And she's like, I do not want to. I do not want to. You can't make me. And they say like, this is not about you. This is about him. And what we need to do to like get him back on track. So get your shit together and go in there. And it doesn't like end well, but there are some bang or fucking lines that that were said. They are like you were the nice one. Never me. They have the whole like bread conversation or like I remember the bread. Why would I do that? You know, why would I take a beating for you?

26:03My favorite thing that he says here though is Katniss says like because you say like why would I take a beating for me? And Katniss says like people said that you love me. And he looks at her and he goes, did they say that you loved me? Silence. They didn't silence. She doesn't say anything. And then he is like, I don't understand why I did all of this. I should have given the bread to the pig. It would have made my life so much easier. And Katniss is like, whoa. I'm out. I'm out. And Peter is basically just like. He is not he is not ready. And that that shit stays with her like and like haunts her because that stuff is like she says like that is the first time Peter that we had eaten like you saved our lives. And later he's like, fuck y'all. I should have fed it to the pig like insult to injury insult to injury.

27:03Would you say that this was a situation? I mean, just overall that he fell first, but she fell harder because of her trauma bond to him. I don't know. I can't read Katniss for shit. I still don't know if she likes him. Well, I felt that way in the end scene. I mean, I know that they have the you love me real or not real real, but she was just she says it in such a way where I go, do you do you? Do you know like do you like like as a friend? Yeah. And even looking out on him for like the apple log scene. I was like, I still don't think you. I think they were just alone. I think they were just alone. That's where I was thinking like I think that she maybe not loved him like where he fell first and she fell harder. Maybe not harder, but like held on to him. Yeah. And like fought for him, but she I don't know when it comes to him.

28:09All of her all of her emotion is shown when she hugs him. So like as she's hugging him, the cameras on her face and we see emotion, but like nobody else does. He doesn't see any of that. So that's why the only person who finally believed it was Finnec when he saw her hug him. And that's when he believed it. And that was in catching fire. But that was the only time. Yeah. So you know, it is what it is, whatever. But we're done. Okay. But we go to a meeting with coin and coin basically says like, Hey, you're done. You're done now. Go rest, go recover. We'll call you when the war is over. We'll call you for this surrender. You know, you can't be on the front line. We don't want you there. Go rest and Katniss is like, Okay. Thank you. Ah, fuck. Yeah, I will go rest. Actually, thank you. I will. I will. And that is like the first time.

29:12The only time, I think that Katniss shows any sort of political savvy in a situation like that. Yeah, because I was going to she's typically the type who's like fighting to be on the front lines and she needs to be the face and she doesn't want to follow their direction. But still she needs to be constantly moving and feeling like she's doing something. So she was like, All right, all right. I agree. I agree. I agree. I am going to fucking leave. I'm going to leave during Finneken Annie's wedding. I'm going to tell Joanna. She's going to cover for me and off I go. And I am going to be on this long plane ride and I'm going to go to the base. Now Joanna again saying bangers. Anyone can kill anyone if you're willing to sacrifice yourself. Again, thank you, Joanna. You have just given us the action of Katniss putting the nightlock pill in her outfit before she goes to kill snow. Thank you. You have set that up for us here right now in a lovely way. Excellent, excellent. Excellent. Thank you, Joanna.

30:17Um, my note here says, Jessica, we hugs and dances with Prim totally unsuspiciously. They're not going to think I'm saying goodbye to my sister in my own weird sort of way. Never. No, I'm not just going to stop dancing and hug her in the middle of the dance floor as everyone who's around us in this contra line. I mean, while Gail is even clocking her again, being like, I know what when you pack a go bag looks like, what are you up to? Yep, yep. When Katniss gets on base and everybody like does her salute and it is recorded that she's there, coin is like, what the fuck is she doing? What the fuck is she doing? Philipsy more often, Plutarch. What is she doing? And whatever she's doing, we thought of it. Whatever she does, it was our plan. And it's your job to make sure that everybody knows whatever she does is our idea. And he's like, yeah, okay, fine.

31:19And Philipsy more often will slowly start to fade out of this movie because he's the past away and was not able to complete filming this movie. So we see him and then we slowly start to not see him. But what we do see now is Natalie Dormer. Hello, Christina. Nice to see you again. Love it. She's such a badass. I just like seeing her. She just evokes badassery in this in this series. Yes. We have a Christina, Castor, Gail, Katniss, Finnec, Pita, Holmes, the sisters. Boss, yeah, Bugs, Jackson, Mitchell, and then our Aatrox guy and my boy from the expanse, my boy from the expanse, his brother. Again, the expanse, the greatest I find television show ever committed two screen. Go watch that's it. But this is our, this is our, our proper shoot. Now again, reading the book.

32:24I was like, again, or just filming commercials again. Like, can we not? But it's, it's, I get it now as an adult. I understand the plot device. I just always hate that they're calling their, their shoots, propos shoots, when I'm like, they're not the propaganda. Yes. You're really, you're the truth. And I know I said that in the second or I know I said that in part one. And I'm saying it again. I'm like, you're using it wrong. Just using it wrong. But to the people at the Capitol, they, I guess in that regard, they are the propaganda. Our word is truth, but we as the reader slash viewer know that it's, you know, the revolution is the truth. The revolution will be televised sort of, right? Sort of the rebels. So we are non combatant team. We're shooting commercials. And we are, we the viewer are explained what the hollow is and what the pods are and what the map is.

33:34We're also explained us the viewer that all of the districts are united and they are marching on to the mansion to the Capitol. And that is happening. And then Katniss's team is well behind the front lines. But they are triggering all of the traps that were not triggered by the front lines, which is wild because one, how did they do this so fast? How did the game makers do this so quickly to their own city? That is just crazy too. Again, it's a repeated plot device addressing crazy. Three, something that I really appreciate about Suzanne Collins is that she fucking kills characters, ma'am. She kills them. She kills them. She kills them. She kills them. She kills them. And I was not expecting any of these characters to die and they did. But but Bugs, I like Bugs. So when Bugs kind of pulls Katniss aside a couple times and tells her like, look, you need to do what you need to do.

34:34Coin did not want you pulled from the arena. Coin is going to see you as a threat because you're going to throw your like political weight behind an opponent. And she promised free elections. And she's seeing you as a threat. Like guard your ass Katniss and like, do what you need to do. Don't trust them. Yeah, don't trust them. I really like that Bugs like establishes that and like repeats that a couple times before he fucking dies. Well, and I love him as a character to just back you up there too is because he think it's it's that it's the conundrum that people have. I feel like sometimes where I'm doing this because it's my job and I need to survive. But doesn't mean that I agree with it. And I feel that him communicating with Katniss shows that. Yeah. And the fact that his second and command Jackson, like puts up a fight a bit and like kind of compromises the mission for a while because she is like not on board with what he did is just like, huh, okay, what's that?

35:44What is that about? She comes around in the end, but like they lost a huge chunk of time because of her bullshit. So what happens? Bugs walks in a child gets his legs blown off transfers the holiday Katniss and dies. You know, that's what I'm going to do. And the courtyard that they're in closes off and fills with like like a tary oil, like a burning though, but it like, yeah, got tar pit hot oil that burns you, skulls you wraps you up, kills you. As you're running from it and just keeps flowing as they're running upstairs into a government building. And because men can never be helpful when you need them to be. Peter chooses this moment to freak out. And he starts attacking Katniss. He kills one of their team members and he's just like, you know what? Fuck you, Peter. I honestly everyone's better than me. He'd be in the tar pit. He's a liability. Fuck you, he's dead. I don't care. I don't care. I don't care. Well, Finnec was the smartest of out of all of them because once they finally get to a higher level, they just shoot him up with something that forces him to pass out and dehulk him.

36:58Dehulk him for sure. This is when Katniss lies. She lies to everybody's face. And it's like, I am on a special mission from Koyne. I'm supposed to go assassinate snow. Everybody is totally secret. Right? It's totally secret. And Jackson is like, I don't believe you. You're lying. I don't believe you. And Crescina is like, actually, yeah, it's so true. It's so true. Plutarch told me he wants it on TV because of this. This is that and why? And I love that. Girls grow back in her up because men, the men are not helpful. The women are right. And I feel like it's only once Katniss had the backup to Jackson. Really? She's like, Oh, I know Katniss can't lie for shit. But Crescina. Why Crescina has no reason. Yeah, no reason. No reason. Okay. So they end up leaving there. They leave two people there that are too hurt to join them. And they're like, once we get contact with base, we'll come and get you. They are blown up. They are blown up by all of the peacekeepers that come and inspect what has happened because snow now knows that they are there. They were caught on camera.

38:13And they don't leave the court. Are they like go to a different building in the capital and they get Caesar announcing their deaths, which like he is very subdued and unhappy. Poor Caesar. Yeah. And snow has his soldiers attacking the other building. That's one point. They kind of flip flop the where their location is. And so now they think that's why the announcement of the death. And then President coin also makes a speech. And I love that Katniss also isn't buying it anymore, especially after hearing from box, where she were, you know, coin is giving a speech. Oh, she's always going to be the face. We'll always remember her. She's she's still part of this revolution. We revolt for her for us, the community bubble. Well, and Katniss goes, I didn't realize I meant so much to her. Yeah, her voice like yeah, yeah. And I, it's her reading through the bullshit because she's seeing it now and understanding a little bit, not really, because she's because we know that she is a puppet.

39:27We know this. You know, a device for coins agenda. Oh coins agenda. Oh, coin. It is here where everyone is like shit. Where do we go? What do we do? Well, we can't can't go over it. Can't go through it. Gotta go under it. Into the tunnels. Into the tunnels. You know, they filmed in real tunnels and they said that this was one of the hardest scenes that they had to do the tunnels. Heads because they were in real sewage and it took them three weeks to complete. Gross. Yeah, gross. Better than me. Fuck that. Into the actors. Yeah, it couldn't be an actor to escape the peacekeepers. And we go. This is when snow is like passed out on his desk and his aid is like, do we need to call your doctor? He's like, no, fuck you. Why'd you wake me up, you bitch? And she's like, Katniss is alive. And his face, his eyes, Donald, you're such a good actor. RIP. He's like, show her to me. Ma.

40:33I need to see her with my own eyes. Ma. I just said she's alive. She's alive. She's alive. Like, and again, if you read his book, snow or see his movie, you're like, oh my god. My guy, you are haunted. And it's amazing. It's excellent. It's excellent because it's like, he's seen Katniss. But is he seeing Katniss? Is he really seeing Katniss? We don't know. He's an old, you we don't know. It's great. It's great. It's great. It's great. It's great. Okay. Before we have the longest scene in the fucking world, we have PETA doing the like, I can kind of sort my memories out now. I can kind of tell the ones that they tampered with. You know, I kind of remember that you and I like, we keep each other alive. We like kind of do things together. And all the whole time that like PETA and Katniss are having this conversation, Gail is like two feet away like this.

41:33Gail, leave us alone. I can't tell you the clapping that I did when she finally says goodbye, Gail. Like long overdue Katniss. He's watching them. He's like staring at them. It's so funny. And like, I understand that there's not a lot of room, but like, do do do not like, oh my god, it's hilarious. Okay. What happens next Katniss is on watch, right? She's on watch and she hears something and she goes and stands and listens. Here's it recognizes what it is and then doesn't say anything and doesn't move for what feels like minutes because she doesn't say or do anything. She's the first one that heard the problem. She's standing in the middle of the tunnel, recognizing what's going on. And it isn't until everybody else wakes up and it's like, huh, what is that where it's like we need to go. It's like bitch.

42:37You had so much lead time and she knew when it wasn't like, is that what I think it is? And you know what? Even if I wasn't sure we're moving. We're moving. We're not waiting for it to be confirmed. Hey, I heard something. It might be this. We're booking it. Yeah. Yeah. And what happens next is the longest. It feels like the longest scene in the whole world. It's the like mad chase with the months. They're just they're kind of they're honestly probably the scariest of I mean, we had them at the end of the first hunger games from book one. They're traumatizing to look at there are so many of them. It's an overwhelming attack. The team ends up splitting. Finic ends up dying horribly like surrounded by screaming for her. She and then again, Katniss, she's like, oh my god, Finic. She picks up the hollow. She's like.

43:39Nightlock. Nightlock. Nightlock. Nightlock. And then it explodes. Bitch, why are you not like nightlock? No, he is being eaten. He's being eaten. Why are you just like sitting there reflecting on the pain of the decision? Let's go. Move. I always have a problem with people's lack of urgency, but in this specific setting, Katniss, let's go. I'm just sitting here like I can't disagree with you. It does move slow. And I feel bad that it took her that long to even think of the nightlock. Take him out of his misery. Exactly. Well, she does it again. When she can't shoot Gail, when Gail's like shoot me, shoot me, shoot me. She's like. No, it's like, why did all these people trust you to make this hard decision when you're just not going to do it? When are in these situations? How are you even having time to think and reflect? No, just question later. Yeah, just whatever. Okay. Anyway, we are running. We're running. The team is again, the team is split. We're back together. We're running. We're running. We're being vaporized by beams of light in a random station. That is scary. Boom, boom, boom, boom. We lose my dude from the expanse, my guy. He's gone. And thank God.

45:07Thank God, Christina knows where we are because off we go to Tigris and we have to go hide, rest, recoup, and grieve in her basement. Good on. Yeah, but I love, I mean, again, all spoilers. I had to check myself about Tigris and this in watching part two. I was like, did I miss her this whole time? But then to hear that we don't meet her until part two, but it still felt so fresh because I had watched songbirds and snakes not long ago and not 200 Shaffer plays, which again, great casting. Yeah, excellent casting. You can see like, oh, amazing. Absolutely. Amazing. This is where Katna is confesses her lie, her bad lie. Just like, I'm lying and everybody's dead because I'm me and my lies. I failed. It's all my fault. Everyone's like, yeah, we know. We know. I also really appreciate that nobody sugarcoats it for Katniss. No. Oh, it's not that bad. No, no. Fuck you.

46:17And this is where Peter gives an inspirational speech. I mean, go off, Peter, I guess. But something that I find annoying, but I guess is an excellent plot device and like good for good for the characters. Is this like mantra of them reciting the dead from their hunger games? Katniss does it. And Peter does it here. He like starts reciting all the names of the dead from their hunger games and then people who have died. And he's like, what are their deaths mean? Like, if they didn't have a choice, like, you need to end this. All these people that died on this mission, like, chose you. Like, raw, you know, raw. Feel better, Katniss, raw. Katniss, I say thank you, Peter. I do feel better. And she falls asleep somehow. The guilt isn't eating her alive. And she falls asleep wakes up over hearing these two stupid boys talking about her. And Gail says the line of all lines, which I wrote down, it goes, well, it's going to be her problem to choose her problem. She has to choose is going to be her problem.

47:22Shut up, Gail. Damn, her choice. She's chosen forever ago. Why he still thinks he's even in the mixes really. I mean, his ego is pretty big. Yeah. And he's like, yeah, she'll choose whoever she can't live without at the end of this, even if we all, if we all survive, you know, whoa, whoa, shut up, Gail. Again, you don't have any stakes in this. She chose a long time ago, but men are delusional. So, you know, we just have to keep, we just have to keep that in mind, especially Liam. We just have to keep that in mind. All right. Yes, snow. So we're, we're Tigris. And Tigris essentially is like, yo, you got to get out of here. Move. And so snow is started to evacuate all citizens to his mansion, right? Like human shields come to me. Please, please come to me. Human shields.

48:28The rebels are coming. Come to me and shield me with your bodies. And they do that under the guise that I am shielding you and protecting you from the rebels. Yeah, false, false, false. Katniss, in the biggest quilted hood you've ever seen in your life. Unsuspiciously. That's not a red flag. Oh, who could get too large fucking figures with big ass hoods? Like they're the Voltauri coming through the cap looking straight up, like, you know, not hunched and scared carrying shit straight up. Look at her, you know, and then going in the opposite direction of everybody. Let's draw more attention this way. Oh, my God. Unsuspiciously. Now there is a Schindler's list reference here, which I did not recognize as a child, but I recognize now as an adult is the little girl in the yellow coat in Schindler's list. She is in a red coat.

49:29So that is that and the same thing happens and it is it is brutal, but that is our little throwback. I don't know if that was like officially stated by the directors or anything, but Schindler's list is on the forefront of my mind recently. So I, I was just thinking about it. So when I was watching this, I was like, Oh, damn, that's like an oh my right and it's really is okay. Just were almost to a point where Katniss has to wake up in medical almost almost. Almost three or four. So Katniss again with Gail in the worst disguises you've ever seen ever. I mean, they look stylish and flies. How thank you, Tigris, but not practical. They they get to the mansion. They get pretty close. They turn around. You know, it's this whole thing. The peacekeepers are about to like unmasked, unmasked, like pull Katniss's hood down when shots ring out. Right. The rebels have reached them shots ring out.

50:31So she and Gail are distracted off they go. They're running. They're running. They're running. There's explosions. There's a rocket launcher. So it's the tank. It's flipped over. Gail gets taken and Gail gets taken and he's looking at Katniss and he's screaming at her to kill him. Kill me. Kill me. Kill me. Please kill me. I will not be taken. Kill me. Kill me. Kill me and Katniss does not. And let me tell you something. I would hold that. I would be so mad at her for that. Oh, 100% well, you know, it also reminds me of it. I know we've spoken on this on previous episodes. It's like when women are attacked and you know kidnapped. But one of the first things we learn is don't get taken to the second location. Do not like drive your car into his tree. Kill yourself. Do not because whatever is at that second location is far worse than whatever you're going to survive. Absolutely. Just I mean, it's crazy. It's crazy stuff. It's crazy stuff. Okay. So what what is up happening here? Peter.

51:33Are your children to the front? Oh, sorry. I jumped ahead. No, you're absolutely right though. I just want to say that Peter has been also given a nightlock pill. And that is it. That's important. We just just say he begged that too. He was very much like I am still healing from the brainwashing that the Capitol did. I want to go into this. I want to fight with you. But I'm not going to be taken again. You need to give me my night like that is not he is so steadfast and sure in that decision that he knew he had worked so far and so hard to get to the point where he was that he was not going to go back. And I know I feel like we know Peter enough that if he was in that situation, he would have he would take the nightlock immediately. Yeah, no question. He was not going back. No, no, no. All right. Now here's where Gail has his faith sealed because Gail's been taken by Katniss locks in and she's like, all right, here we go. Here we go. I'm running. We're running.

52:36And a bomb goes off. Boom. Bomb goes off. And Katniss, you know, throw back whatever she comes to and who does she see as a medic rushing in, rushing in, rushing in to save all the children, the children that were being, you know, is prim. And then the the bombs come in gifts from the Capitol. I was going to say like that. And not a stuff that is happening in war two day, like even as recently where they have the bombs disguised as soccer balls, but they're really the bombs to lower the children into ex. Like that is not again, there are things about the Hunger Games and there are things about some of the books that we and movies that we have been discussing that we're supposed to be dystopian and are very much no longer dystopian or have never been and we're just more aware of it now. Yeah, it's it's really crazy stuff, right? So prim as the medic goes in to save, you know, any of the children because it was like bring the children to the front. The children will be let in first.

53:46Here comes the medics. Here comes the gifts from the Capitol quote, quote, quote, quote, quote, bomb blows up everybody. Catness is hit with that explosion and is quite literally now the girl on fire and she is burning alive. Smelling her own body, cooking like as she is lying there and she passes out, it goes dark and she wakes up in medical again, again, she wakes up in medical and the only burns that we see are burns on her neck. But in the book, she is like scarred like badly. Well, I know they made it a point also earlier in part two where she was like asking how injured she was or something and they were like, please, Saina was not like, you know, I was going to say Kendrick Lamar, it's not Kendrick Lamar, it's Lenny Kravitz. When he's designing her outfits, he was never going to not give her something that's like everything proof.

54:47Everything proof, everything proof, fire proof. Just enough, just enough, just enough, fire resistant, resistant, resistant, resistant. She is burned though. So she is in the hospital. She is talking to her mom and Hamich who tells what happened after a catness was the girl on fire. Her mom will not look at her. The rebels walked right in the bombing of the kids and the medics was like too much. Everybody was like disillusioned after that and it was just completely, it was completely over. And Katniss tries to talk to her mom and Katniss's mom is like checked out again. It's just it's not there. Her mom barely came back. Yeah, it's not there. It's not there. So I mean, this is like leading towards the end of everything. Effie who has not been in this at all. Effie brings Katniss to the mansion. She's like, here, I brought all of your things. It's like her three things. It's like so fucking sad.

55:48And she's like, I'll let you settle in. And Katniss just like starts wandering. She wanders to the study and the dining room. And then she sees the greenhouse and Pailer lets her into the greenhouse and snow is in the greenhouse because of course, because of course, of course, he is a swarm. It's winter. He's an old man. Of course he is where he's unlike like this is where he divulges to her. Everything that President coin was. Well, my people, you know, first she he's talking about the bombs. She's like, you sent that bombs. He goes, no, but let's let's get one thing straight. Am I is killing children beneath me? Absolutely not. I totally would kill children if it made sense. And he goes, and here's a thing with snow. He would own up to it. One thing about snow is he would be like, yeah, I fucking did that. But that's not, but that's why he said no. He goes, but this wasn't me. And this is where everything's starting to click together.

56:55He's basically saying coin has had us playing each other while she just sat back and did not do the heavy lifting. We were basically doing it for her. Played us is still kind of manic about it. And and Katna says, you're lying. That's not and you know she's saying it in a way that she it's because she wants to believe that he's lying and that coin didn't have this all set up because then ultimately it was coin who killed her sister. And so I mean, we know that Katna sister means everything to her. And this was kind of and that's again, this is where snow says, oh, come on, I thought we weren't lying to each other anymore because she was in denial that he goes, oh shit. She he is right here and I just don't want him to be. So then we flash forward to coin sharing that, oh, I'm going to be in a room president and we're going to honor the children by having another hunger games. The fuck.

58:09Well, and Joanna is just like cackling with laughter. I know I just love her. I just love her so much. Oh my god. And and coins reasoning is just like because the rebels will be uncontrollable with their thirst for blood. It's like, whoa. Is that racist? I can't tell. What is that? Like what? That's fucked up. Whatever, whatever that is. Is this a fucked up thing to say? You bitch. But that doesn't surprise me with Joanna. No, no, not at all. Not at all. So I also like that it has to be like a symbolic hunger games. It's like, why are they going to symbolically kill each other? Like that's the part where I get there. Like it's not the hunger games. It's a symbolic why? Why don't we just do like an in memoriam every year for this tragic loss? Yeah, but the rebels will be unsatisfied with blood again, again, again. Okay. The rebels want blood. No, you are you're literally repeating the systemic like repeating the cycle except your in charge this time. So Katniss kind of clocks is like processing because she's already broken up with gale right after this, right? Like before this. She's already broken up with gale. She's like, she's focused now. She's ready. And she sees the game that coin is playing. She has processed everything that snow has told her. And she votes yes for the hunger games, which shocks Hamid.

59:36She can see he's like, yeah, yeah. And I it it's also like an interesting trust that he has in her as well, because it's also intentional with how Hamid's votes because he's looking at her. She's looking at him and he doesn't know what she has planned. So his vote isn't for isn't necessarily for the quote unquote symbolic hunger games. His vote he says is I'm with the mocking J and that is I feel like that is the strength of the sentence alone because he is standing with Katniss with the symbol of like the bigger picture, even if he doesn't know it, but he trusts Katniss that much, which I really appreciate like all of these older men like putting all this trust in her like that she knows what to do. I love that excellent. Okay. Again, hello, we don't need you here. I mean, we love you. We wish we wish we were you were here more, but what you are doing is nothing. So she's dressed as Katniss Katniss uses a moment of destruction to sneak a nightlock pill into her outfit. She walks the avenue of the tributes to like the big square where snow is just like tied to a post like a witch.

1:00:56Which I just found so funny. He's just like guys like cackling there later. It's really funny. Katniss has all the rebels behind her and coin is in all gray. She's got like a new haircut, new fuck us, Bob. And she gives a speech and I wrote some of it down. Her speech is like self-engrandizing and like bad, but some of it is. Um, you know, her arrow will signify the end of tyranny and the beginning of a new era. May your aim be as true. The delivery here is insane. May your aim be as true as your heart is pure pure like the way that she does it is insane. You need to go back and listen to it. It's like, Bob, Bob, Bob, Bob, Bob, Bob. And then she opens her arms. She's like, uh, and she stands there with her arms open like a fucking freak.

1:01:57That was the weird because she's finished her saying, doing her arms are still open. Katniss is quote unquote aiming at snow. Her arms are still open the whole time. And this, you know, talking about scenes that feel like they're dragging out. How long she keeps her arms open? And like, and I get it. Like you want to have accuracy when aiming and archery and all of that. But I'm thinking as a person who just delivered the speech, why are my arms still out? Like my speech is done. Arms down. But, you know, and you know, it's really, again, testament to Katniss and her character. She doesn't give anything away to coin because then she's looking at her aim. She doesn't fully aim. She finally aims in the split second once she calculates with calculates visually because then it would have given her time to react.

1:03:05But at the same time, it was very, um, coin was her eyes were closed looking up at the sky with her arms open. If you look, so it's the, so then when she gets, you know, when she struck down with the arrow and she pops. She's, she opens her eyes and is completely shocked. And you, and again, snow just starts manically laughing. Blood coming out of his mouth. But I mean, we know that he's been sick. He's been coughing blood into his scarf. Um, and everybody's shocked. Everybody's shocked except, I mean, even the rebels to an extent, but clearly Katniss knows something they don't know. But it will once again, you know, going back to what coins that earlier, the rebels weren't going to be satisfied with just snow, nothing happening to snow. So they took matters into their own hand and they kill him. Yeah, I don't know if being killed apart, you know, pulled apart by the crowd is any better than an arrow to the chest. I mean, I mean,

1:04:09prior to the chest. And he was already dying. So she, you know, I don't know. He's dead. That's what's important. We don't see it, but like he's, we know, he's dead. He's dead. So Katniss is taken right. She had Pita men never helpful. Pita bats the night lock out of Katniss's hand. Katniss is taken and Katniss has to wait where Hamage brings her a letter from Plutarch because again, Phil, it seems more often as best away by this point. And the, and the letter is basically like, I knew you would do this. Go off you bad bitch. I've erased transport for you. Go live your life. Here's the politics, by the way, Pailer will win the vote. She'll pardon you later. And again, like Jess said in the beginning, if I have to do it again, I do it again. So get get fucked. And I will never see you again. And because he passed away. Bye. Yeah.

1:05:10But and so we have Plutarch and we have the new speech and we have a new government and it's being announced on TV and you have someone going, Oh, hey, there's Plutarch. Plutarch is not there. I cannot find his hello anywhere. But again, it's to close out that character because Phil, see more Hoffman is no longer with us. They had to rewrite scenes and kind of rearrange who would do his lines because of his passing. R.I.P. R.I.P. Now begins the sad. I mean, all of this is sad, but I find this section to be the saddest. Okay. So it's like, what do we do now, Hey, Mitch? It's like we go home. Okay. Well, first of all, Gayle is staying in the Capitol and Katniss' mom is staying in the Capitol. So Kat is in Heymich, go home alone. The train ride is silent. The walk home is silent. The house is silent. And it is only there. And of course, Effie got to say everybody to go by is both of them and it's very sweet. Take care of yourself. Find the life of a victor. Thank you, Effie.

1:06:14It is here, though, when Katniss is alone in the house and she sees Prince Kat that she finally like explodes with grief for her sister and Jennifer Lawrence gives a really great performance here. A big, snottie, gross, bitty performance, dealing with the grief of your sister. And she's so angry at the cat. She's angry at the world. She goes through all the stages. And at the end, she's like clutching the cat to herself. And she's not like alone. Finally, she has like something. And it doesn't say how long she had been there by herself. But I feel like it was long enough because when when Peter just like pops in and shows up planting primrose, she looks sad as hell. Like she looks sad and she looks like, oh, hey, when did you get back in town? It's been some time. We have to we have to.

1:07:15So it's then then begins the like they're not alone anymore. Now it's the two of them plus Hamich and they have dinners, you know, with Hamich and PETA and Katniss are living in the same house, which I mean, I guess, sure, why not? I just go back to like them being trauma bonded for so long because it was that way and book two and catching fire. They were so reliant on each other in the first hunger games that. Being each other was each other's piece. That's how they kind of got through everything. Well, it is it's really funny because Katniss starts making like fuck me eyes during that rainy day. See when they're like sitting in the door. Peter is not looking at her at all. She's looking at him like tonight. It's the night, baby. Here I come. It's so funny. It's so funny. And that's the night she just thought she gets up in the middle of the night and she goes and she crawls and peed is bad. And she calls with PETA and he's like, you love me. Real or not real? And she goes real. And then she like they like wouldn't be hold hands. They're like, blah, blah, like wouldn't be hold hands.

1:08:24And then it's the epilogue, which again, I'm on record as hating. I understand why they had children. I get it. It's done. It's over. They're safe enough to have children and not worry that the cycle where I understand that doesn't mean I can't hate it. Yeah. And I mean, even when she's taught you know her those two kids or her nephews, I saw in some of her research. But the one when she's telling the baby and she's like, and one day I'll tell you the story about the health scape that we went through to get here and I survived it. And I was a victor. And that's, you know, and that's where my night, Myers, come and I'll tell you all about it. But then she says, you know, I'll tell you how I survived my nightmares. I make a list of all the good things I've seen. You know, it might be a game. It gets tedious at times, but there are worst games to play. Bap, Bap, Bap, Bap. Let's see. My big complaint again, it doesn't say Hey, Mitch and the geese. You need it to say Hey, Mitch and the geese so that it makes sense. Okay. You know, but it's one of those goddamn continuity things. How would they know? How would they know whatever?

1:09:38Whatever, whatever, if you never read the books and it's just the general audience. Yep. Like, but I have to assume. You know, Hey, Mitch and the geese, it's such a throwaway line. But Laura, you've shared this with me earlier that wasn't necessarily a spoiler that that plays or I don't want to say it plays a role because I don't know. But it is something into sunrise on the reaping that has pay off, I guess it does. Yeah. Yeah. So I'm just like, if you know that. But that's the end. That's the end. The epilogue. I just, I just hate it. I hate it. Of course, I, you know, again, I don't come for me. I get it. I can two things can be the same, you know, correct at the same time. I don't like it. And I understand why they had it. Just, how do you feel about this movie? I think I was expecting to like it more. I don't know if that's controversial. It might be. I just loved the first one, part one so much.

1:10:43And, you know, I feel like maybe that is what happens in that people, it's like on record being said with wicked people love act one so much that they expect that to continue through and to act two. And that's not always necessarily the case. And I just, I mean, I'm here for a revolution. I love the, like, that's not to negate anything that Katniss did. And like continuing who she was as a person. Because it's all about revolution. I just loved the first one so much. Because the first one is what really geared me up until like, yes, let's rise. Let's go into like, let's fucking go. And this one, I was like, we're going. And I feel like there's a fell flat for me. I'm sorry. I know that must be controversial. What's your take on this? No, there, I mean, I've been on record. These, I don't feel like these are great movies. These are the greatness is in the message. It is not necessarily in the delivery of the message. But like the message is comes across clear enough. Right.

1:11:52And if this isn't the only vessel that we have to get the message, it's fine. Right. It's fine. And that's how I feel. I just, I just don't, I just don't love. I just don't love it. Again, what else could be done? This is the material. I mean, it was adapted well enough. And it is because of the success of this that we have the other two, the other two are really good as well. So I am grateful that this dystopian trilogy, because the books are trilogy was able to be successful enough to get this movie series made to get this message out to as many people as possible that wouldn't necessarily read the books. Because you can point to this and be like, see revolution, see government bad, see here, bad in the power of, you know, essentially community coming together and rising up and the power of your voice, the power of the people like there is that that message that message to be like we're stronger together, but we have to be on the same page.

1:12:59Yeah, no, definitely like on the same page. And again, like I said, talking about like accessibility, anything to get the message of fight out to as many people as possible. And I would say again that this is one of those series that absolutely needs to be physical media before they take this from us before they edit this from us. Just the conversation that just came right and I had in the beginning of like she watched the sun, Amazon, I watched the sun, like she had a little bit of pushback, I have pushed back before. There's licensing issues. What else are they doing? What else is happening? Are they taking what else is being edited? Yes. Like what is what what else are they fiddling with in there? Just get I was going to say hard copies. The you know what I mean, you get those two but like get get like the physical copies of these movies too because like. The streaming streaming is it's like fake right like they'll just take it away and then we can't have it anymore even though we bought it we bought it we bought it we bought like we were renting we're all we're like renting it for a long time and we bought it right like it's terrible so again physical media is important.

1:14:06These are important things everybody has seen these and if everybody hasn't seen these they know of them and if they don't know of them they know of Katniss that you know like everyone is culturally aware of these movies and books in some way and I think that also is a testament to the message I mean not necessarily like. The greatness of the writing or the movies but like the greatness of the message and the way that the message was delivered to us in a way that shocked us enough in the first one that we stuck around. Through all of this and is I mean they're still being made the conversation is still happening it's still relevant and I find that or actually I kind of hope that these movies have kind of the same vibe as like Twilight in the same kind of like really understand the importance of the message of all of this kind of later in a Twilight.

1:15:13Like you understand like the camp of it later but you know you get the like the greatness of it kind of later because Jennifer Lawrence was a totally not copy and she was like you know do you watch Titanic and he says no and he was do you rewatch the Hunger Games or do you watch your movie she goes I've never made something as great as Titanic and everyone was like you have made the Hunger Games. I know everybody in the comments I was so surprised that like I honestly will say I was surprised because I don't put the Hunger Games up with Titanic but the message is that important and that is I mean I remember there were times that they were doing it was like they were doing book signings for the Hunger Games like the cast was. And it's not usually everybody's going crazy over like author no it was the cast who was doing the book signings because of the movies and I mean I remember the Empire Dyers is doing that on topic too so like but I think there is a powerful message that continues to be had and continues to be shared and unfortunately that where the message was there it's just more applicable now I think I think that's just a lot with the dystopian that we've been covering.

1:16:38So yes just can we of course that's so everything that you're saying I do to moving and time constraints did not have time for fun facts on this do you have any fun facts just can we have kind of sprinkled them in as we were talking excellent I just I have none. What I do have is just these like memories of the chaotic press runs of these movies during promotion like Jennifer they were young like they were young and like she and Liam were fucking and and they were all up in each other's shit and remember they're like completely forgot. Yeah I always forget maybe you brought it up the last one and I forgot then too it's just such a fleeting thing in my mind. And and they were like farting on each everyone was like farting on each other and like making jokes on each it was a wild press run for all of them throughout these movies and that and that is what I remember is like the fun that they had during all these interviews and like Jennifer was like coming up behind you know like rubbing armpits on people and like the fun and she hasn't changed though she's still very much that person I feel.

1:17:52Especially when you see her interviews and and that and I thought I remember that because the movies were like not fun and the press like tore of them doing everything was fun so I kind of remember the duality of that it'd be like I bet they needed that because it was like heavy heavy stuff and like yeah heavy yeah it's very heavy so again wrapped on this you know we will move on to the two other book slash movies in this series of course it needs to be covered the message the message is what is important here we love the message and last thing I'll say on this just can read is that it is hard for me to believe that this wrapped in 2015 and it is 2026 2015 was not that long ago with this message and we are here now what the fuck yeah I feel like that because you know when you were talking about the release date you said 2015 and somehow in my head I had thought it was around like the late arts with like twilight and then when you said 2015 I was like okay well we lost five years to COVID and that was our blip you know and I just I didn't make the connection where here we are well I mean I didn't make the connection that was only 2015 but like you said we're 11 years later and we are still
