#26 | Interview - Matthew Lumsden, CEO of Connected Energy

About this episode

Today we bring you our interview with Matthew Lumsden, the CEO of U.K. company Connected Energy. Matthew tells us how he got to where he is in his career and what Connected Energy do in the field of battery storage systems.

Formed in 2010, Connected Energy in recent years are developing stationary energy storage systems that use second life batteries from electric vehicles. These batteries that are no longer useable in a car due to degradation still have life left in them and can be repurposed. So Connected Energy uses these partially degraded batteries and connects them together, then packages them into one energy storage system to be used again.

Matthew explains in detail what the numerous and ingenious applications for these battery packs are. Which vehicle manufacturers are supplying batteries to be able to make this happen. Why it is advantageous to use these second life batteries and not a newly designed battery, and more.
