We’re reflecting on this truth from Jesus in Matthew 11: “I am gentle and lowly in heart.” Gentle and lowly? What countercultural words. And this isn’t the watered-down kind of gentleness; this is full-on fruit-of-the-spirit gentleness. Like John teaches, people can often misunderstand this. It’s not softness, weakness, or meekness. Gentleness is steady, and it actually begins at home in overcoming our harsh inner critics.
