23-2 台灣的 "鬼月" 可怕嗎? Is "Ghost Month" scary in Taiwan? Important taboos to remember

台灣人認為人住在陽間，鬼住在陰間，農曆七月一號從陰間到陽間的門開了，這時鬼會從陰間到陽間來。為了歡迎鬼到陽間，我們準備大魚大肉迎接他們，讓他們在陽間吃吃喝喝直到七月三十號鬼門關。而鬼月時，最重要的活動就是普度，在我們的想法中，有些人死了以後不願意離開人間，沒辦法轉世。因此鬼月時我們準備很多肉、菜，讓他們吃一吃，滿意後他們就會離開人間了...

鬼月 guǐ yuè: Ghost Month

陽間 yángjiān: the world of the living

陰間 yīnjiān: the land of the dead; the underworld

普度 pǔdù: on the 15th night of the seventh month (lunar year), people prepare ritualistic food offerings, burn incense & joss paper for ghosts, spirits or the deceased ancestors coming out from the lower realm

人間 rénjiān: human world

轉世 zhuǎnshì: after death, a soul/spirit reborn in a new body
