日本防疫成功的可能因素，包括遲來但極為迅速的疫苗接種活動、管制夜生活區、民眾戴口罩，以及8月下旬天氣惡劣，迫使民眾宅在家裡。
不過，日本民眾普遍仍對確診數大幅下降的原因感到困惑。專家擔心，在這樣不知道確診數急遽下降確切原因的情況下，隨著疫苗效力逐漸減弱和冬季到來，日本可能會再次面對像今年夏季一樣的疫情。
