2026 Honda Super One Review: Is the Fun Worth the Compromise?

EV QUEST

About this episode

Is the 2026 Honda Super One fun enough to make up for its limitation?

I took Honda's new small EV for a quick drive around town to find out.

The Honda Super One is based on a Japanese kei car and is designed mainly for city driving. It has a 29.61 kWh battery and a claimed WLTP range of 206 km.

I was surprised by how much room there was in the driver's seat for such a small car. It's also genuinely fun to drive, and I really liked the combination of modern technology and physical buttons and controls.

In this review, I take a look at the Honda Super One's interior, back seats, boot space, technology, driving modes, regenerative braking and range.

🙏 THANKS
Thanks to Honda Tauranga for letting me borrow the Honda Super One for this review.

Today I've got a quick test drive of Honda's new big EV, which is very small. It's the Honda Super 1. Giving me 1980's Honda City Vibes, the Honda Super 1 is based on a Japanese K-Car. Just wide in the bit. 29.61 KWh battery. WLTP range, 206 km. It feels a lot roomier than you expect from the size of it. It handles well. It's a lot of fun to drive. I like the screen, the visibility of the screen, out the back is good. Large windows, visibility is very good, so there's no problem seeing. Side mirrors, fine, headroom, good. I think it's an ideal for a city driving, small spaces. Something like, you know how to Auckland, it's a ideal. You got manual controls on the seat for adjustments. I'm not sure about the lumbar support, but I'm not spitting long driving. The only potential downside is that range.

But that might not be a problem for you if you're only doing short drives. If you're only doing 30k today, you're going to be okay. Just if you want to get out of town, this is not the car for you. I think it's Pepey enough though. North-Torn 100? I think it's around 8 seconds. I feel like I am in a bigger car, actually. I went into a 100, I didn't have a blot into a 100k zone, that was all right. Yeah, there is a noticeable difference in the region setting. That's on one. If I bring it up to four, it's much stronger. What I like, I really about this car is you've got a combination of manual, physical, tactile buttons, plus it's still got the on-screen up options. So for the drive, you've got driving, mutual parking reviews here. You've got your driving modes, physical buttons for that. Physical controls for your heater, park hold.

That's better. I didn't have that on before. I was wobbling around about park hold, put that on or your wobble a bit. And then on the steering wheel, more controls. You've got your distance controls here. Home button, haven't tried the hump, hello yet. How's the hump sound? And then, push sticks, vents, your boost mode, to give you extra power and you've got the paddles for your region. And when you go into boost mode and sports mode, they respond like changing gears on a petrol car. Much of it's gimmicky, really crucial, but I have a bit of drive. It's a nice stitching there. Steering wheel, up and down. We're not in and out, it's up and down. We've got a little, little mirror there. Two lights.

Headroom is good. I'm a bit tight on the seats. I'd have to wear that in a little bit, but that's also, I've got a big bum. So that's probably part of the problem there is me. So I'm probably, you know, I'm in the bigger end of this car. If you're a little bit smaller, no problems, I would say. Manual controls for your front seats. How speakers, a 12-volt socket there. One drink holder. Two USBs. And then just a sort of a little trade to put things in there, which could, not only how long it's staying in there. And that's your key. Straight into the point. LED headlights, LED tail lights, LED daytime running lights. A gray coloured grille with recycled material.

There's three colour options for the base model. Two tone for the premium model. No, Frank. Normal door handles. Spoiler there. Fan 50-inch alloys. Wear, windscreen rifle, which is nice to see. Quite a large area on the back windscreen. Honda there. Manual to open up the boot. 162 litres, because it's already a town car. I have got my pack and save shopping bag there. Seats go down. Quite, yeah, that's not too bad. Quite a flat surface. That's where the seat's down. There's nothing under here. And then your, well, there's a little repair kit there. Ooh, look at that. Back seats up. Even though I did that. And then you can unclip them and they come down.

It's tight. It's tight but durable. So I've got my head on the roof in the back seat. In the front seat, I'm fine. So this is the first K-class car I've ever been in, or based on the K-class. So I find it quite actually more roomy than what I was expecting. You were saying that how small they are, but it's quite roomy, durable in the back seat. For a short drive, someone might say, those kids would be okay, but it is two seats in the back. Five doors. I'm hand grip there. Just a plasticky there. Manual opening. A little drink bottle down there. Not a light. I like to ride home with my feet is under the front. They're not too bad. There's no pockets. There's a pocket on the front passenger side. No coffee cup situation. So sparse, but you can adjust your headrest. And there's a light behind you. Heaps of safety features including ABS,

vehicle stability assist, hill start assist, emergency brake assist, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, forward collision warning. But let's go on. I haven't really had a good chance to, you know, test out all the safety features open road and everything. I've just done a quick drive around town, which is really what it's designed for. Does that Apple CarPlay Android Auto eGoogle systems bake then? I can reach the screen okay. It's definitely not overwhelming. If you aren't into sort of overwhelming screens, this could be the vehicle for you. It's got a physical button for the audio, so that's quite good as well. So if you're worried about that whole reaching out to the screen and having a look away, you've got the safety, you've got the ability to just get reached out for the physical buttons, which I like a lot. I haven't had a beep or a bon yet, which is pleasantly surprising. No beeps or bonks. So I am feeling quite relaxed enjoying the drive.

There's my region, but a region that's quite, that's quite, quite actually the region. That was quite smooth on the region. If I bring it up to four, it's much stronger. There's two models, two versions of this available. And prices are on the screen. There's not much difference from the model app. What you get from the model app is a sort of two-tone colour. This is the base model. There's not a big difference. Competitors for this would include size wise, would be something like the BYD-101. Which is price cheaper. This is priced more like the BYD-102, or the GWM-Aura 5, which I recently drove. So this is in the 40,000-dollar price point. Overall, an enjoyable drive. I like the combination of technology and old-schoolness. The only real thing you really got to think about, if you're going to consider this, is the range issue. Ideal for short drives around town.

But you're not going to be driving along a big distance in it. So now I'm at 99% battery, but only 103-7 km to go. I really like to take this for a much longer drive. I feel quite comfortable in it. My bum's getting better into the seat positioning now, after a little bit of practice. So yeah, really, I'd actually like to drive this car a lot further than what it's actually capable of doing. Big thanks to Honda Intolronger for letting me borrow this vehicle, the Honda Super 1. If you're interested in the Honda Super 1, then you're in Toldronger. Give them a call. I'll put the website details in the details section below.
